- This is a wonderful, sour, ever so slightly sweet and spicy dish, popular in many Indian restaurants in Ireland and the UK. It isn't an overly complicated recipe to cook at home. It is just a matter of taking a little time to make, though having precooked chicken like I did means it can be made in just less than 30 minutes.
There is no need to order from the local takeaway, as you'll have it on the table in no time.
Trust me, make this at home, and you will never go back to the takeaway again! That's a promise. I hope you enjoy the video and more so making this at home for family or friends.
Ingredients
700g Chicken Breast cut into bite-sized pieces (you can cook whole chicken breast and cut into bite sized pieces, once cooked)
Marinade for Chicken - See previous videos where I have listed the marinade mix referred to in the video.
Cook marinated chicken as per the instructions in the video
Spices to be used for the Masala
1 x tsp Kasoori Methi (fenugreek leaves)
1/2 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
1 x tsp Kashmiri Chilli Powder
1/2 tsp Tandoori Masala Powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 x tsp Coriander Powder
1/2 tsp Hot Madras Curry Powder (use mixed powder if you have it)
3/4 tsp Garam Masala Powder
3/4 tsp Chaat Masala Powder - not Turmeric Powder as mentioned in the video and corrected by my darling editor wifey in script (use of Chaat Masala is totally optional - my preference)
3/4 tsp Red Chilli Powder (use extra hot chilli powder if you wish. Folks at home don't like the heat as much as I do)
2 1/2 tbsps Butter Ghee (use oil if you wish. I just had the ghee to hand)
1 x Black Cardamom Pod
1 x one inch piece of Cassia Bark (cinnamon stick)
2 x Bay Leaves (I use Tej Patta - Bangladeshi Bay Leaves, though ordinary are absolutely fine)
1 x Medium - Large Onion (dice if you wish, I was just lazy and diced is more in keeping with the recipe)
2 x tbsps Garlic & Ginger Paste
2 x tbsps Tomato Puree (Tomato paste, elsewhere)
1 x Medium Size Pepper (Bell Pepper, Capsicum)
Add the Spice Mix Above and use the remaining marinade
Add 350mls Water (add more or less as you wish)
1 x tsp Salt
Juice of Lemon (I had large size - use Lime if you wish)
2-3 tbsps Mango Chutney (use less if you like less sweetness)
2 x Green Chillis
Cook Masala for approx. 20 mins
Add the cooked chicken and cook on low for a maximum of 10 mins to heat through - et voila! Curry cooked! And dig in!
Wow, this looks amazing!
Thanks for the kind comment and glad you enjoyed the video and recipe.
Mouth watering 😋
@carolineclarke3997 Thanks Caroline and even the good lady liked it! 🤣🤣
@whitebeardskitchen6473 high praise indeed 😁
Looks great! I will put this one in my "to try" list...It gives me a reason to buy some mango chutney for the first time!😀
@ralphalley7413 Hi Ralph glad you liked the video. Add less of the Chutney to start and add a tad more as I did. Mine wasn't an overly sweet Chutney so while looked a lot it didn't make the dish too sweet as that would have ruined it.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you and the family.
@@whitebeardskitchen6473 Thanks for the tip. Wishing you and your family a safe and wonderful Christmas and New Year also!
