The historic City of Lancaster really is a fabulous place to live; a heady mix of culture, countryside, high quality schools, one of the UK's best universities on the doorstep and with a wide selection of affordable housing, Lancaster and its surrounding towns and villages offer a great lifestyle choice.
Lancaster Castle is known as the site of the Pendle witch trials in 1612. It was said that the court based in the castle (the Lancaster Assizes) sentenced more people to be hanged than any other in the country outside London, earning Lancaster the nickname, "the Hanging Town".
Lancaster is a city in northwest England. On a hilltop, the medieval Lancaster Castle has antique furniture, 19th-century prison cells and views of the River Lune. Lancaster City Museum features displays on the city’s history and its army regiment in a Georgian building. Williamson Park offers woodland walks, a butterfly house and coastal views. The city's seafaring past is explored at Lancaster Maritime Museum.
Lancaster was named one of the happiest places to live and work in the UK, so it's safe to say that life in the city is good. From restaurants and shops to historic buildings and landmarks, there's plenty to see and do if you're thinking of moving to Lancaster.
The vast majority of students have a safe and enjoyable experience at University, with Lancaster ranked as one of the top five safest Universities in the UK by timeshighereducation.com, however some may fall victim to crime. At Lancaster University, your safety and security is of the utmost importance.
Visit Lancaster’s castle and museums to uncover the city’s ancient stories hidden in its walls and buildings, and find out more about the people who shaped its history.
Stroll the meandering towpaths of the canal or along St George’s Quay, marvelling at the Georgian architecture which lines the banks of the River Lune. Explore the secret paths of Williamson Park and discover its hidden follies and stunning Edwardian designed butterfly house. Discover the open spaces and strong design of the two university campuses and find out how these seats of learning have influenced the city over the years.
Shop local in Lancaster’s quirky boutiques and independent galleries, or choose from renowned high street brands in Penny Street, St Nic’s and Marketgate stores. Browse food, gifts, crafts and books at the twice-weekly Charter Market, and then relax in one of Lancaster’s wealth of cafés, coffee shops and restaurants. The smell of coffee permeates the air as you wander the streets, and you can sample everything from locally-brewed real ales to delicious home-made soups and cakes.

This is like an amazingly awesome gift to me…
My son is currently doing his masters in Lancaster Uni and I had the good fortune of spending a month in this lovely city when I went to visit him… It was like walking down Nostalgia Lane… Will watch it whenever I feel the deep urge to being there with my son…
And that is the problem with Lancaster full of student accommodation no affordable housing for the local youngsters the council bend over backwards for the university
University Students bring prosperity to the place. Without them the place would be dead
Gimbal walk do you live there I do and I am afraid it is a university city as you say but behind it is a poverty-stricken no hope of a place for the ordinary Lancastrians that live there you say it pumps money into the local economy maybe for the local councillors and the university but nobody else a high street full of cafés and restraunts very few shops of note most retailer's are giving it a wide berth and as for the wealth you say gets put into the local economy have you been to Morecambe the real Morecambe not the 2 miles you show on your video of the promenade conveniently leaving out the West end of Morecambe and the shopping precinct which are possibly some of the most deprived areas in the North of England all overseen by Lancaster city council so don't lecture me on the university boosting the economy and making the area lucky to have it like I said any planning or major development the university wants the council always pass it when it comes to the local residents for affordable housing then the council drag there feet or reject it the university price most people out of renting properties in Lancaster as they are the only people that can afford to pay the rental prices properties that are bought and run by housing companies in Leeds , Manchester. And various other towns and I am not even going to mention the Eden project the council passing it this has been going on for over two years and the council have only just seen fit to pass it without the £70 million that the government Will have to invest I remeber the Mr Blobby fiasco that cost the council £2 million of our council tax money to pay of Noel Edmonds and his company that were going to build and the local council(Lancaster) pulling out so please don't Insult me with the university is good for the local economy.
@@Achilles66666 it's co-existing, if you mix with the students you'll get to know them and more often than not they provide valuable ideas insights and a fresh outlook into the everyday world, nit to mention about their contribution towards the local economy. The local youngsters are of the same age they would know better. The housing crisis is bad all over the world in most developed countries, but from what I have seen there are more rental houses than student accommodation which are very few.
A very nice walk, and I was particularly pleased to see it very clean, no litter for the most part. Some majestic buildings/architecture. The Castle was mafnificent !!
Thanks for the trip once again Mr Walk 😁👍💯
Many thanks!
Wonderful opportunity to see these streets again. I felt like breathing the cold fresh air of Lancaster!
Thank you!
Soon I will be there 🌺 Thanks for sharing this video.
I've not been to Lancaster for a few years, so it was great to see, many thanks. Next time that you go, it's worth going to visit Williamson Park. This is where gallows hill used to be situated. There is the beautiful Ashton Memorial, a lovely butterfly house, lovely walks through the park, a cafe etc.

You chose a good sunny day in the morning. You missed.- The Horse Shoe at Horseshoe Corner, The Beehive on the old Co-op Building on New Street and the Victorian Post Box on the Church Street.. Also many Heritage plaques. You caught - the dustbins outside the top of Church Street. Lots of Buddliah growing out of listed buildings and Parking on Castle Park.
Great stuff Roger thank you!
Will incorporate into my next one there

Attractive city , but I have another sort of question. I have been thinking of moving to Lancaster after living abroad for a long time. I don't know anyone there. Are the locals friendly towards strangers?
Yes we're pretty friendly here
@@SoundSista222 okay thanks
The years l have been sent to here. It was the best prison in the country in Lancashire. The best food. Fish and chips On A Friday Dinner time.
Can't beat fish and chips!
@@GimbalWalkTVwas you in Lancaster prison and what year?
@@GimbalWalkTVl was in Lancaster farms. Preston prison. Liverpool Walton prison. But Lancaster castle. Was the best.
It obviously had an interesting history judging by the architecture.
Definitely
My son study here
Nice video. It would be very useful if you added a street nap, with your route marked on it.
That's a great idea!
I live in Lancaster Ohio.
What's so crazy what made me look up this video I'm from Lancaster Pennsylvania and my friend on my Xbox he's from Lancaster UK and it's a weird coincidence so it made me look up this video
ha ha amazing stuff! Good to see you
@@GimbalWalkTV well thank you
If you started at the steps of Ashton memorial in Williamson Park this would have been twice as good
Ok
Studied in Lancaster from 1983 to 85. The town doesnt look much different
Why IS mute ?!?
I'm going there in 2 weeks lol
It's nice that you can hear people's voices 🙂
a very quiet place, but some people feel it is too quiet
To call it a full tour without a visit to Lancaster Cathedral or the Priory is a major omission, otherwise good.
Alex Walker is right. The Shire Hall and The Priory are very photogenic.
@@rogerfrankland913 Lancaster Cathedral is very photogenic too and all are welcome to visit as long as the silence is respected. It has having some exterior repair work done on the spire so that may not be too photogenic!
Nice walk but no where near a full tour
Next time
what a uninteresting place.
😮😮😮
Wars of the Rose's? Roman name . Norman castle. Keep visiting shopping malls eh?
ITS A HISTORICAL TOWN AND THERE IS WILLIAMS PARK AND THERE ARE STALLLS WHERE YOU CAN ALSO PUT KNLY IF YOU ARE A FARMER AND THERE IS 0 POLLUTION + THERE IS NO RASICM AND EVERYBODY IS HELPFUL AND EVERYTHINGS NEARBY
Real
Looking forward to Michael's vid on the places that he finds "interesting".😂
