This is not the original audio of both Promotional Films filmed for Revolution. This must be an early take. The original Promos feature the Single's mono mix without the Vocals. John, Paul and George sang the Vocals "live" for the Promotional Films.
You got that right brother !! Before You-Tube, not many people even new that this performance even existed !! I bought it on super 8mm sound film back in 1979 !!!
It is a different background track as well because the keyboard solo is different from the official version of the video so it's not just them lip syncing over their own backing track
What in the world is the music for this? It’s not the version in the promo films (which is just the studio version). And these vocals aren’t quite right either, they’re a weird mix of like 90% of the studio cut and 10% of the live vocals done for the film. Odd. Neat to see the video takes side-by-side though.
Both clips were them singing live vocals over the same prerecorded track, so I don’t see the big deal? It’s not like it’s two different versions of the song.
@mk win That's interesting. I didn't catch the fact they were singing live over their own recorded vocals. I've seen other bands from the 60s sing live here on YT, but the lead backtrack vocal tracks have been removed, but the background vocals were left in... It gets a bit tricky for me trying to figure out exactly what's going on.
@@apace003 The musicians union had banned miming, so the get around these rules, they tried to make it look like they were actually playing everything you’re hearing.
Sounds to me that for these two takes, the boys are playing live. I suspect that, in post-production, the live vocals were lifted from Take 1 and then dubbed over the actual record's backing track.
Interesting. I know the instruments are prerecorded, but they are a bit too loud, burying vocals, and the guitar sounds a mess. In take 1 at very end, John is a way from microphone but he's still singing 3:21. So were his vocals prerecorded too? John was slipping into heroin at this time and could not remember lyrics well (recall the Get Back rooftop in Jan. 1969), so I bet he needs lyrics in front of him for this one, too, even if he's lip-syncing. Revolution is a great song, but the distortion on the guitars does not sound good. Too bad they didn't use a Marshall in the studio, isolated in another room, and turned it up, or stuck a FuzzFace in front, to get the distortion -- rather that overloading a clean guitar through studio tricks.
It was John: "On 'Revolution' I'm playing the guitar [...] I was always the rhythm guitar anyway, but I always wanted to fiddle about in the background."
@@rirchardrubio5621 Yes. He did it as an overdub after driving the engineers crazy for days because they couldn't give him that distinctly dirty and nasty sound he so desperately wanted for his guitar.
