    I just finished an old Tamiya 1/700 Fletcher class destroyer, and I am almost crying seeing the plastic detail on this Takom kit!

    Takom should do the real Scharnhorst (armored cruiser) in 1:350. There isn't even 1 armored crusier kit avilible at the moment! and this would be a good choice for the first one.

    Tell Takom to model their ships in 1/350th scale. Then I'll buy some.

    Keep up the great work, Andy! Really awesome to see some more ship models! Ships are my favorite to build. Great to see WWI kits! I wish there were more Civil War/WWI era ship kits out there. Even ships from the Spanish American War would be awesome.

      I love building ships as well. Yes it would be awesome to see more older ship kits. I'd love to see some of those french pre dreadnought protected cruisers. They just look so beautiful.

      @@woodchild2093 Totally agree, Jason! Ships from different time periods from all around the world would be great. I’d love to build some from the Japanese Ruso War as well.

    Hopefully, Takom can break Trumpeter’s near stranglehold on the ship model market! You never know if their “A” or “B” team worked on a particular subject! Dragon dabbled a bit but probably felt the market wasn’t big enough. Also, there are still plenty of (non IJN) 1/350 possibilities worth exploring. I think, given some of their off the beaten path releases, Takom has the balls to jump in!

    • @mikep3180
      @mikep3180 2 роки тому

      I wouldn't say trumpeter has that of a stranglehold, tamiya has a fair amount of ships too, and then you got other smaller companies eg ICM, but yeah its good to see something fresh, although I'm hoping they explore other ship concepts just like with the flak towers and 1/72 guns. Like, I'd much rather see a model of the Habbakuk project than another U-boat you know, I want them to take this wacky approach with ships

    • @IJNavy
      @IJNavy 2 роки тому +1

      @@mikep3180 As for Tamiiya Mike, that’s why I qualified with “non Imperial Japanese Navy” subjects, same with Fujimi, Aoshima, and most Hasegawa. Other players like Blueridge Models and Very Fire are welcome additions as well. I hope Takom does well and doesn’t take a beating from Trumpeter like they did to Academy!

      Hobby Boss and Dragon also make nice lines of ships that are non imperial Japan ships.

    Great looking kits if (big IF) you do 1/700 ships. I'm working on one now and I think it will probably be my last 1/700 ship. However, I do know that this scale is popular with masochists worldwide.

    Thanks for the video! You should definitely check out Derfflinger's history, it is amazing. The British called her Iron Dog for her stubborn resistance to British gunfire at Jutland in 1916, where she played a pivotal role on the destruction of 2 British battlecruisers, Invincible and Queen Mary, both of whom sank with very heavy loss of life. Lützow is credited with sinking the armored cruiser Defence with her entire crew of 857 men, and shares the credit for Invincible with her elder sistership. Unlike Derfflinger, Lützow sank as a result of battle damage early the next day.

    • @facenoise465

      The Gearing-class, even the ones with the dry dock, are all Snowman Model tooling. I believe that is also the same for the Derfflinger class battlecruisers. New tooling from Snowman model. To be honest I'll still go for the flyhawk renditions of the Derfflingers because they have deluxe versions with more photo etch.

    • @tim_86xc6y9
      @tim_86xc6y9 2 роки тому +3

      That is correct, I've seen reviews on Chinese forums comparing the two kits and they're the same minus the full hull parts. What happens is Snowman Model produced these kits, using both old Flyhawk molds and some new molds, then delegated its oversea selling to Takom. Snowman mainly produces 1/2000 and 1/700 kits and the quality looks pretty decent (to me). Their upcoming offering interests me: a 1/350 DDG-1000 Zumwalt class, hopefully it would be great!

    Takom is so adventurous - I would love to see them do a big 1/96 or 1/100 scale ship for those of us who like to drop radio control into models; something like a Destroyer Escort or a World War II German Torpedo Boat type 35 or later. These would be around 3 feet or less in length but would make for very impressive static or running models.

    I bought a 1/700th scale FFG-7 once in my innocence. Big box, teeny, tiny widdle ship. Too small for my heavily corrected eyes.
    Kudos to the artists who work in that scale-- some of their work is beyond impressive. I'll stick to moving foxholes, 1/48th aircraft and kits I messed up as a kid and want a second crack.
    Anyone know where I can get an old Lindberg USS Rudderow for a decent price? :-) Andy??

    Hopefully they did their homework and made the Derfflinger different from the Lutzow. The midship superstructure was very different between the Derf and her sisters. Derf had an antiroll system at the midship which necessitated removal of several secondary and tertiary gun mounts. I have a scratch built 144 scale Derf and did a LOT of research into it and the design differences between her and the other two of her class.

    Thought that this was a newer video and it turns out that it is older........
    I just got the Navy 5" turret in 1/35, wishing that Takom released both the US 5" and the Japanese 6" Triple in 1/72 so that they can go with their 1/72 scale main gun turrets. And it turns out that they already released (at least the US 5" twin) months ago.
    Too bad that its part of another kit that I wouldn't buy.
    Hopefully they do what you suggest, release the 5"-ers as part of a larger chunk of the ship.
    Takom should release the IJN 6" in 1/72 as the front and rear placments on the Yamato class. That would be a nice add on to the main guns.

      Ah! I had wondered about the choice of WW1 German Warships (I’d seen that Flyhawk covered these two) and wondered why somebody else would also bring them out....that’s that explained then!

    Another great broadcast.
    Wish a manufacturer would build 144 British Royal Navy submarines, instead of the never ending German Uboats. 8th and 10th flotillas Mediterranean WW2 would be perfect, as these boats were one of the main reasons Rommel failed, being more prolific, sinking more tonnage. But unless you know different they are as yet not in production.

    So sick of 1/700 ships, utterly pointless. Why can’t these manufacturers make kits in 1/350, you know, the scale that everyone wants to build in. You even said it, “very tiny little ship” which means lots of details they can’t include. Pointless.
