Perfect maillard seared mahogany crust and without being charred giving the protein that grilled flavor! 😋😋😋 This vid sold me on purchasing some GrillGrates and inverse to a flat top for the best searing. ♨️ Thank you 🙌 🙌
Finally I found a video using the flat side of the grill grates. I don’t know why more people don’t do it this way. You get a perfect caramelization on the whole surface without charring it.
You made that steak look amazingly good. I just purchased a Weber Genesis II grill a couple weeks ago. I haven’t fired it up yet, but this will be the first thing I would do. Thank you and yum!
any chance you've run these through the dishwasher for clean up? I'm looking for an easier cleaning process for my set but have read that anodized aluminum and the DW are not a good combo.
I just scrape them off with a metal paint scraper thing from home depot, I havent tried the dishwasher, mine are ugly as hell now, I use the flat side up so its easier to clean anyway
I love those grates. When I ordered mine I got the three piece set. I should've tried to find a set big enough to cover my whole grill. I did a burger this weekend on them using the flat side too. Your steak looked delicious. Thanks for sharing😃
The only negative I found was it keeps the flames from charring the meat at the times when you might actually want that, they are made to keep your food from burning from grease dripping so I cant fault them for that, I do not use that Weber anymore but I still use the grates on my Reqtec bullseye and other pellet grills to get that great sear, I highy recommend them still, they do not rust and are holding up like the day I got them, just not shiny purdy! I always use the flat side to cook my steaks and burgers on for a great crust! You can use these on top of your other grates, and still get great results.
Grill grates are fantastic. For thick steaks, I bring them up to temp low and slow the grates right side up, over indirect heat at about 225. I take the steaks off at about 110, and then blast the heat on the direct side of my grill, over the sear burner, with the grill grates upside down. When it gets up to temp, I put the steaks back on and flip them (and move them around) every minute or so, maybe 5-6 minutes total, until they are medium rare. I leave the grill lid UP while I do this so the steaks stay medium rare almost all the way through. Obviously instead of grill marks, you get a nice mahogany char all over the surface. If I buy prime grade meat, these are the equivalent of what I've had at the very best steal houses (Mortons, Capitol Grill, and independent equivalents).
Have you thought to try them without the flavorizer bars? I do this when I use a griddle top on the grill and it heats so much faster and uses less propane
Hey bro, do these get a lot hotter than the standard grates that come on the weber gassers? I got an LX440 and to be honest, it is crap at searing a steak, even after pre-heating to 280ºC. I want some serious heat out of this thing. Oh and do you still get little flares from the drips that hit the flavoriser bars? I would hope that they still work as designed somewhat, vaporising the juices as they hit.
I didn't do a test of both grates like I wanted to, I'm sure someone has, I know they get hotter faster, not sure if hotter at highest heat. I think you get less vaporizer dripping flavors but not like makes a difference that you can really tell, less flare ups which I sometimes liked, but I think you would like them.
curious if you still love/use those grates. I saw them on "slap yo daddy" bbq. seem to put the grill marks in... YES YOU CAN USE THE existing grill grate, but i like the idea of the flare-up protection. I plan on using on a kamado kettle.
It definitely heats up faster because of the metal its made from, flipping the grates just gave it a complete sear, not just on the grooves, same temp I am sure as if they were flipped.
@@Carnivorefitness2024 oh ok that makes sense....everyone is after those grill marks but I believe it's just for show....to get the best taste you want the sear that covers more of the surface of the steak
My only question about this is, doesn't this type of grill grate lesson the amount of contact between the steak and the actual fire? Isn't the fire itself the most important thing for BBQ flavor?
I thought the same thing, but really the only time the fire touches the meat is a flare up, and I agree I like a flare up at times, I like them though still.
Hey Gary! Perfect sizing and perfect fit! And……they'll never Rust! Gotta Love 'Em! Someday I'll get 'em. Like how You seared that steak…..Complete and total sear coverage! Grate Steak!!!! Rock On! \m/

I see what you are saying, but I had them upside down for one on this video, they do let the flames kiss the meat though, just not like regular grates, greasy foods like burgers still cook great on it, look at other videos, I use them right side up for my steaks and they are the best I have made, I think
It was an inside joke from another youtuber that always says that to his neighbors dog, but its ok this stupid dog has bothered me for years, shitty owner!
I don't know I have to pull the grill grate to clean it out and such, and those things in all those pieces with char ash on them and grease and what not just looks like a lot of work in the end but the idea was novel one,
Hey fred you ever been to a hibachi GRILL. Yeah i say GRILL because that what they use a flat top grill. Why? Oh because that keeps the juices and flavor in, thats what any place will have and they cost a lot more. You want to drain the juices go use your george forman, otherwise get a clue. I'm new regarding GrillGrates. I didn't know about turning them upside down to sear. Thank you for the idea!
Yeah you can do fajitas, cheesesteaks and alot on this side
For a special dessert treat try grilling peaches. Cut in half! Remove the pit, olive oil, grill. Tastes like peach pie!

The steak looks perfect. The grill grates look like a very good investment. I will certainly miss Tom. He was one of a kind.
I think they will be Greg, thanks
Any issue? Some people claim that it doesn't allow enough airflow and cause a heat issue under the grates
