@Jurbo33 most ppl consider these suites intermediate in difficulty. A lot of the difficulty in these pieces comes from a long-standing tradition of writing in dynamics, tempo changes, etc. etc. by various cello players, that aren't necessarily in the piece.
the bow it's baroque because J.S. Bach was a baroque composer simple as that. It's sad how people who don't even know what is about start to comment on the performance of an artist who had dedicated his life to perform at his best.
People have just got to give Maisky more credit. Sure Yo Yo made his debut at age 8 but in my opinion Maisky just produces a better tone quality in general
slower? i think not! also, i agree with 1stcellomama about the criticizing. besides, it's more in the style of the period. if ya think that baroque bows curved outwards then inwards, his is more accurate than anything we do...
@onandoffsuperfast leonorjaloto is correct. Bach used many different chord progressions and other such things. If you understand the technical bach, you can easily understand the musical bach. This just requires a lot of practice.
i wonder how long it took him to learn all of these difficult pieces to the point of memorization.. i think i got halfway through the prelude to no 1 and that's it lol
ok ya for all of u that think his bow is too tight... it isnt because the cello suites are written during the baroque period and bak then they didn't have bows like our modern bows, their bows were shaped crescent kind of like a overtightened bow but really... just stop with the "his bow is too tight!"
Easy, you do not have to,it was just and added ecpression Mischa adds to his music.Look at his composition, then someone else's.He just does it because he knows how to makd jt work
mine is definitely No.1 prelude g major. (i play cello) i really like your youtube channel . i am subscribed to you:) thank you for uploading all these bach songs
nice playing but the character is just extremely weird for Bach... its just really weird for me to hear baroque music being played like something written in the late 1800s...
Yeah but consider that he came from the high Romantic school of performance. Where Beethoven symphonies were played with 8 horns in huge concert halls. Not to mention the East European influence at the time of his upbringing and musical growth/tutelage. It's all about passion and no holding back. It's different yes, but not in a bad way I think. Bach is the device by which the performer is telling his own story or message.
We'll never know how did Bach performed or desired the other musicians did for his pieces. Do not forget that most of these repertoire from this era were played in cathedrals and/or churchs, what lead us to imagine, that he Bach loved God('cause he was a believer) and also a huge Forte dynamics. Its hard enough to think that a man who had, 20, 20 something kids, and was improvisor, maybe the best of his time, wished only delicate and almost soundless dynamics. Of course, he played organ pipe, so perhaps he was like a John Coltrane improvisor with the sound fire of Jerry Lewis, James Brown.
Bård Ericson And that’s the strange thing about Bach. He was a composer who masted the religious chorales, creating chords with any instrument: whether it is the organ, the cello, the harpsichord or the clavichord, or the human voice. Heck, the fact that he composed more than 1200 pieces possibly in his lifetime (some rumored to not be by him but by his wife and children), and leaving this world with 2 children who continued to compose, one becoming a big inspiration on Mozart is astonishing. Bach’s works, religiously outpouring, were so far ahead of his time, mathematically and sensationally, that one would need to look at composers like Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Schubert, and even Tchaikovsky to come to the depth of how much Bach’s influence came to dominate the world.

I love the face he makes when he hits a low note. He really gets into it. A man hitting the right notes can make the world feel alive. This is music.
Yes his expressions are pure art.
Mischa is not just a musician, he's a genius! This interpretation is incredible!
I don't know about the rest of you, but I think this guy in the videos is a serious badass. these pieces aren't easy.. and he plays them all SO well!!
Music is nourishment for the soul. It is a beautiful thing, that many of us seem to have forgotten.
I'm learning this right now and I really like it
Just saw him live at the Elbphilharmony in Hamburg. Just recently. What a beautiful style to play the Cello.
@Jurbo33

This is just amazing for studying ♥
Não me canso de ouvir essa musica , obrigado.
This is a wonderful interpretation, very emotive with a judicial use of rebato. Lovely ornimentation.
I see what you did there. *slow clap* Bravo good man.

His interpretation of Bach in particular is far superior to any living cellist.
There's no balls in Yo Yo Ma's. This has plenty.
How true, comrade.
No words really !!! ♥️♥️♥️
That's why it's so good! I lol'd instantly.
Saludos cordiales desde Oaxaca México! Gracias

slower? i think not! also, i agree with 1stcellomama about the criticizing. besides, it's more in the style of the period. if ya think that baroque bows curved outwards then inwards, his is more accurate than anything we do...

😊😊😊
I think most of us secretly hate music. Those of us who play are really terrible at hearing the music anymore anyway.
MISCHA MAISKY!
Even his hair is crying.
Just to think that when it was the old days hearing this is like playing the latest video game
Can someone explain how to do the trill in beat 2 of measure 9? It appears to be impossible...
Well you play E and B with the first finger and play the C with the second. It's not hard at all.
Easy, you do not have to,it was just and added ecpression Mischa adds to his music.Look at his composition, then someone else's.He just does it because he knows how to makd jt work
Why tf would you not just give a time stamp bro?
Killer

Of course people care about music. If someone cracks a corny joke on a video, are they suddenly someone who doesn't care about music?
definitely out of your price range
Basilique Saint-Michel de Bordeaux
Cello JEWsus.
is...is he Jesus?
he doesn't exactly look like someone who would play the cello. More like someone who would lead the next Sauron Orc attack.

Then why aren't you playing this?
