Crazy Cat Lady Lyons i cant believe you didn’t know she also played veronica in Heathers lol 😂 and Joyce now in Stranger things Winona Ryder is very talented
I love the way she's written: trying to be creepy and goth, but clearly a largely nonthreatening teenager. I mean, the acting's great, but the writing backing this scene is just perfect.
About the most wholesome thing that came of this move was Adam and Barbara becoming her ghost godparents. That and Lydia's parents actually paying more attention to her, in their own way. It really showed how ready to be parents Adam and Barbara really were as discussed by them before they died.
Lydia: I couldn't sleep .. or do anything at that point...so yeah you uh know stuff about me..names lydia...lydia deetz and pretty sure I dont need to explain my story ...now what can I know about you !
Winona has always been such a good actress. I know she was nominated for an Oscar but I keep thinking critics have never made her justice. She has it all
She is terrific. I think, at times, she was undervalued. She was real good in Age of Innocence, but was overshadowed by Daniel Day-Lewis. She was also real solid in, Girl, Interrupted, but Angelina Jolee, had the 'flashier' role. Day-Lewis and Jollee were both real impressive, of course, but I thought Ryder more than held her own. I think she's quite versatile and should be held in higher regard, than she seems to be. And, she's gorgeous. Still. And, that doesn't hurt.
"Anyway you can't scare her, she's sleeping with Prince Valium tonight." lmao I never got that until I was old enough to understand what depression/crippling anxiety was 😌

She has been in many 80s/90s classic movies and did several movies in the 10s. She was in less movies in the 00s because Hollywood blacklisted her...She also wanted to focus more on her private life.
I love rewatching the clips after I’ve seen the musical bc I love how Beetlejuice himself says the musical “is such a bold departure from the original source material” but the movie and musical and very similar. I feel like the musical makes some really good changes and adds more depth to the characters though.
This movie came out in the 80s...Winona Ryder at 15 acted like most good child actors now (no overacting or widening eyes unnecessarily as most people used to then). Shows how she always was a really good actress
Bravo to whoever cast Winona in this role. She is absolute *perfection* and she really paved the way for a new kind of actress...including one of my other lifelong favourites, Christina Ricci :)
I am much younger than Winona but I thought she was beautiful when I was a kid. I like her phrasing when she speaks. It has a you can't condescend me tone.
The naive "storybook" wholesomeness of Barbara and Adam really added a lot to this movie's charm. Hopefully they find a way to make the sequel as narratively compelling.
You know what? I saw this movie back in '88 when i was 13. Haven't seen it since. As an adult, it'd be interesting to pick up on all the grown up details ("She's sleeping with prince Valium tonight", etc.). Gonna watch it again.

Winona Ryder was soooooooo cute in this movie!

Ruben T what movie is she not?
She still is!

Cute in this movie, sexy as hell in Heathers only a year later
I love how Adam and Barbara treat Lydia like their daughter. Their relationships are so sweet in this!

I think Winona Ryder is probably the best actress for anything of the 80s. She played Lydia in this, and Joyce Byers on Stranger Things as an 80s mom.
