      The Gibson neck is wound lower a bit lower in output so it's more vintage and clear and the A2 mag softens the bite just enough.

    Dimarzio really did a great job!! The burstbuckers are high class tho

    The Dimarzio sound more like a 70s rock pickup . They sound like the old 70s Dimarzio PAfs with some mids shaves off . The oldler ones had more of that vocal half cocked wah tone and they were great pickups . Those were the ones on the old Hamer guitars.
    The Gibson BBs are more 50s sounding but with more bite . I would Go Dimarzio for for an ACDC or Rush tone and Burstbuckers for more of the Free Bad Company Allman Brothers Peter Green Mick Taylor sort of thing .
    You need a set of each for different guitars is the best solution

    My favorite pickups are the Epiphone Pro Buckers and Gibson 490's

    Nice BB1 sounded better in the neck for me, more of what we call pipe tone, as if goes through a pipe or tube (Slash SRV)

    The middle postion tone of the BB1 and 2 was as vintage Gibson as it gets. The BBs have a slight P90 character to them likely because of the uneven coil windings . 50s PAFs were brighter than once believed . They were not the Big fat warm dark sounding pickups many thought . That is more the 70s sound .Real PAfs were not near as low midrange heavy as a 57 classic or Dimarzio 59 or Duncan whole lotta Humbuccker . To me those are 70s sounding Pickups
    A 50a Pafs while not being thin by any means were not as fat or full bodied as some have thought and not as compressed or soft.
    Alot of people end up discovering that Pafs and the most tonally accurate recreations are not for them . Just like an old shchool marshall PAFs and PAF clones need to be cranked up to get the sweetness warmth and body

    Finally someone did this. Thanks! Which ones you like? I have PAF 59's in my Tokai LP now and those are nice pickups. Still curious about BB2 too because it has that vintage Gibson sound.

      Thanks! For my use, I prefer the PAF59s, but I won't be surprised if I find the BB2 back on my LP someday. Both have their own character. Try out a BB2. I won't be surprised if you'll enjoy them as well. Cheers!

      @@soundforge8096 BB2 sounds pretty nice with 50's wiring but i end up keep 59 PAF in my number one les paul bridge because 59 has better clarity and little less power. I put BB2 still to my other LP :)

      Try out a BB3 in the bridge it's a great pickup . The BB2 makes a better neck pickup where it's slightly more pokey than the 1 it does that slightly woofy Keith Richards edge of breakup Rythym tone when he uses his Telecaster with the old Gibson PAF in the neck. Sounds like he has one of the accidently hotter wound PAfs .

  • @adamwatson6916

    Both sound great . Usualy dont like the BB2 in the bridge but love it in the neck with BB3 in the bridge . I find the BB3 has more of the vintage gibson midrange character and sweeter top end . Its got a little more of that Jimmy Page Nasal honk and a little more low mid grunt . The BB2 in the neck does that 60s slighty woofy semi dirty clean rhythm tone like you hear on the Rolling stones 1969 live album or on live Gratefull Dead shows from the late 60s and ealry 70s when Jerry and Bobby still played Gibsons. The BB3 will also do late 70s ealry 80s metal when when cranked up . Super vintage when the guitar volume on 8 and old school metal on 10 from Blues to to Van Halen and anything in between . I find the BB2 gets shrill on the heavier stuff . The 3 compresses a little more with heavy settings so its just the right amount of creamy without the mush

      We need a shoot out between the Dimarzio 59s and Duncan Seth lovers. The Seth's are a far more accurate take on a 59 PAF than a Duncan 59 is . The Duncan 59 was created before Seth lover Gave seymour his old spec sheets notes and drawings

    ...sounds like paf 59 was a bit to close to the strings...specialy in the bridge position...it sounds a bit hars. (It's not hars pickup at all)
    I have both (bb2 and 1 and paf 59) in R8 and DiMarzio is much more clear in string separation and have "woodier" bass respons...
    I belive there is a huge difference between recorded sound and sound in the room....
    Mho dimarzio is more vintage than Bb's but BB's 1, 2 and 3 have alnico 2 and paf 59's are alnico 5....that can explain clarity and a bit more loudness....

    • @kuitaristi3003

      One think i like about BB's is that, those have unbalanced coils which is part of that old PAF sound. That means sound has some single coil type brightness involved. Dimarzio 59 and Duncan 59 i think don't have that.

    • @christiand7678
      @christiand7678 Рік тому +1

      @@kuitaristi3003 i realy don`t know about unbalanced coils but i know that PAF 59 is "scatter" wound and not waxed while BB`s are not scatter wound, and they are vaxed even that Gibson describe them as not vaxed. I have BB1, BB2 and BB3. I opened them and there was wax all over the place so I don`t know why would Gibson claimed they are not vaxed. It`s affecting the "openess" and "airness" (if those are words) caracteristic of picup. I prefer Gibson pickups to Duncans and many other DiMarzio modells but PAF 59 is for me!
      Personaly I think that Gibson can make exakt sounding pickup to old PAF if not 100% then 99% for shure but that will destroy whole market for vintage lesters...(i know i know ....minus feel, minus mojo...but plus money!)

      @@christiand7678 Was those BB's taken from guitar or separately buy'd from store? Usually BB's that are in Gibson guitar already was potted and separately not. My BB2 was not potted. 59 PAF is pretty great, yeah.

    Nice demo! Great amp tone too. (Is that a Marshall?) How do you find the output balance between neck/bridge between the two sets? I have the PAF '59s in my '78 LP and I love them both, but there is a significant volume difference between them, even with drastic height adjustments. At the moment, the neck pickup is deep in the body and the bridge pickup is as high as it can go. I still find myself needing to turn down the neck volume, but that affects the brightness ...

    • @soundforge8096
      @soundforge8096  2 роки тому +2

      Yup, that's a SC20H into a V30. Sorry to hear your volume issue. So far I don't hear any difference between the two positions. My other concern is that adjusting the height affects the tone as well, not just the volume. I hope you can find a fix for the issue. Let us know how you fixed it. Cheers

      Put 50's wiring to your guitar then you don't lose brightness when roll down volume.
