No disrespect to Mr. Ellis, he is trying to promote his country and get a good deal with India. But I would warn Indians not to get misinformed from this video. As a person who has worked extensively with Brits in India, Singapore and in US, I have realised following: * Brits consider India as nation inferior to their own. They are appalled that India has progressed so much and has beaten them. They do not like that as a nation they consider themselves living in the "glory" years of colonialism * Even though British government wants a friendly relationship with India, it is not because of the fondness for our country or culture but self-realisation that they are not a power any more and with decline of US they need a friendly power in Asia-Pacific region. * Indians need to ask a question why were so many separatist elements from India (Islamofacists and/or khalistanis) were/are given safe havens in UK. It is a way to control internal politics in India. * I have to whole heartedly disagree with Mr. Ellis assessment that economic offenders or fraudsters prefer UK because it is a great country to live. Smita ma'am was absolute genius when she asked this question. Reason is that majority of money laundering happens via financial institutions of London. Money is not parked in banks of London, but laundering happens via financial institutions of London. Also Indians need to ask why majority of gold transactions happens via London. There are articles and an amazing documentary about the involvement of UK institutions in money laundering. But UK government protects them as it is a major source of revenue and economic enforcement division of law enforcement of scotland yard or MI5 are under funded or not funded at all. They do not have any convictions for decades. * It is not just economic offenders from India, but Russians oligarchs also prefer London. Majority of million pound flats and above are owned by Russian oligarchs. This was allowed for two major reasons: 1) To get their money of course 2) To have political influence with in Russia. I hope Indians remember our history and realise that we can be friendly with UK or Brits but never trust them like we do Russia. Russia will not be a great military power in future but I hope India and Russia can trade and both benefit from our history. I believe we have repaid our debt to Russia for 1971 support, but I hope we can be friendly for decades to come.
The UK is the 51st State of the United States. India has to keep that in mind when dealing with this country. He seems to be balanced in his views until it came to the issue of Ukraine. He said it is an unprovoked attack on Ukraine by Russia. He claimed that Ukraine is a democracy while Russia is not. He said that the Ukraine war caused all the economic issues. He did not mention that the West did a regime change in Ukraine in 2014 and installed a pro West government. This government then started a war against it's own citizens and killed about 14,000 ethnic Russians. Until this was started, most of the reporting in the West regarding Ukraine was about it's Nazi connections. The moment the war started, Naziism and white nationalism in Ukraine was swept under the carpet. It is the European/American reaction to the war (trying to isolate Russia), that caused the economic crisis, not the war itself. He said a few times that UK is a democracy and the parliamentarians there can say what they want. But in a democracy, can the parliamentarians say what they want without the party that they represent approving it? I don't think so. The United States, UK and most of the Western nations are no longer democracies. They are controlled by powerful bureaucracy, intelligence agencies and corporate media.
Smitha you should have asked him British parliament discuss and they are free to discuss. Does it mean that they are sitting free and don’t have anything else of their own to discuss.

It is hard to take him seriously in the backdrop of BBC's hostility and propaganda against India since 1947. After all, BBC is funded by the UK government, so the UK government is directly responsible for BBC's malice towards India.
If UK values the relationship with India, the advise is not to play Billawal of Pakistan. We Indians are certainly not amused by the false propoganda against our PM.
Wonder why the ANI team chose to talk to the British High Commissioner. A UK PM of Indian descent is, no doubt, historic, but Britain is a declining power economically and militarily (even in Europe). As for the BBC (the British “Bakwas” Corporation as it was recently described on another platform), it continues to treat India, particularly PM Modi, with a disgracefully colonial attitude! Regarding the verdict on the Gujarat 2002 riots, the Supreme Court of India concluded (based on a thorough SIT inquiry) that there was nothing incriminating against PM Modi. So, who gave Tony Blair the right to conduct his clandestine inquiry in another sovereign country? This is the same Tony Blair who led his country into war against Iraq, based on fabricated evidence of “weapons of mass destruction." Ellis mentioned Gandhi’s statue in London, but there is still no memorial in the U.K. recognizing the service of millions of Indian soldiers who were literally used as cannon fodder by the British colonial government during the two World Wars! Sanjeev Sanyal described (in his new book) the shameful methods used by “contractors” of the British colonial government, to literally abduct able-bodied young men from poor families in Punjab, train them, and send them off to be killed in Europe’s battlefields! The BBC would never have the honesty to produce a documentary (despite ample archival evidence available in the U.K.) on the actions of the British colonial government that caused famines, killing millions in India, while it shipped foodgrains (grown in India), to feed British soldiers in Europe during the Second World War. Also, no chance of the siphoned $45 trillion by the UK ever being repatriated to India, not to mention the ancient sculptures, and the Kohinoor diamond. So, is there something unique about the India-UK relationship that it truly deserves to be further cultivated? The simple truth is that a post-Brexit UK now needs to lean on India, much more than India needs the UK. Even in the UN Security Council, it is other countries like France, which have consistently supported the need for India’s inclusion in the UNSC. The relations that will be of greater impact for India in the 21st century, are those with the U.S. ( that has a bigger Indian diaspora of 4 million, particularly in the high-tech sector), with Japan, and with France, which has a much greater interest in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and is a close defense and strategic partner of India in the IOR, besides India’s growing relations in the Middle East, particularly Israel and the UAE. Australia also has a close economic and strategic partnership with India.
