    Licence To Kill was released on July 14th, 1989 and starred Timothy Dalton as James Bond 007, Robert Davi as the villian, Sanchez, Benicio Del Toro, Talisa Soto, Frank McRae, Wayne Newton and the sexy, Carey Lowell. Desmond Llewelyn had a larger role a "Q," actually joining Bond on his mission of revenge after Felix Leiter (David Hedison) is brutally attacked on his wedding day. This is one of my favorite Bond films and features explosive action and an exciting score by Michael Kamen (Die Hard).
    Tagline - "How many times can one man make you breathless?"
    Teaser trailer I remember appearing in theaters, summer 1989, before films such as Lethal Weapon 2, Batman, Star Trek V The Final Frontier, Ghostbusters 2 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. What a great time and fun summer that was.

      From Wikipedia
      Parretti's behavior led to the bankruptcy of MGM-Pathé, and additional lawsuits eventually resulted in a foreclosure by financial backer Crédit Lyonnais in 1992. The Bond rights lawsuits were settled in December 1992, and the renamed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, now run by a Crédit Lyonnais subsidiary, began to explore further development of Bond 17 with Danjaq in 1993. Dalton was still Broccoli's choice to play Bond, but the star's original seven-year contract with Danjaq expired in 1993. Dalton has stated that the delay of his third film effectively ended the contract in 1990

      @@jerrymelvin2650 I just can't get past the fact that Daniel Craig looks very little like James Bond. Short, blonde and looks like a Russian henchman with a face like canned ham. He's also become increasingly boring, monotonous and just plain stiff and awkward in the role since Casino Royale. Even in Royale he only really seemed like 007 in a few select scenes, ie, the quiet Bahamas scenes gambling and seducing the mistress.
      I really think it's time they go back to a more classic tall, dark and handsome 007. The style of the movies in general has become really standard, blue-filtered, drab and dreary Hollywood gumpf too, and nobody seems to have noticed that the writers are just regurgitating the exact same plot points again and again with Craig (he leaves the service for some reason and has to get asked back because of a big terrorist, he does some parkour chasing covered in cuts, moans endlessly about not trusting anyone and acting all robotic and broody, gets captured and tortured and someone close to him gets killed off). It's getting on my nerves now and the last one, Spectre, was IMHO the single worst Bond movie ever made (and that's really saying something).

    • @jmcasas17
      @jmcasas17 2 роки тому +1

      @@AD-kv9kjI agree with you. Craig is ugly as Bond but the Hollywood producers made Craig nothing but an eye candy six pack ab Jason Statham/Jason Bourne wannabe to please the new generations of moviegoers - snowflakes, cream puffs, cupcakes and candy asses millenials. Dalton is perfect as Bond for despite his gritty portrayal, he is oozing with class, charm and sophistication. None of these qualities are found in Craig's Bond.

    The best Bond, in the best Bond film, with the best Bond theme belted out brilliantly by Gladys Knight. It doesn't get any better than this, and it never will. And it still breaks my heart we only got two films with Dalton, he was the right Bond, it was just the wrong time.

      @@MichaelMcCormackMusic No, thank you for uploading that trailer, it's fantastic, and let's you know Bond is deadly serious in this film. As much as love Sir Rog, and his Carry on Bond style, Licence to Kill was the kick up the arse the franchise desperately needed. And since my initial post above I've stuck my Blu-ray copy in and watched it again for the 437th time.
      One more thing, the tanker truck chase, at the end, is still the most jaw dropping action sequence in any Bond film before or since, and will never be bettered. Christ, those explosions were borderline thermonuclear. Sorry, I'll shut up now, but dammit this film is perfect, and I love it!

    Read the Fleming novels to get into character, didn’t want to copy what Roger Moore did before him, turned down the role twice (the first time being he was too young to be Bond in OHMSS and wanted to wait till he was old enough to play the role), did all of his own stunts, and actually looked threatening when pointing a gun at someone - Yep, Dalton is easily the best Bond behind Connery. It’s just a shame MGM’s financial issues prevented him from doing at least two more. Had he done another two Bond outings in 1991 and 1993, he would of left behind a solid legacy.
    What could of been, eh?

    • @christopherfoote4643

      We would have definitely got a 3rd Dalton Bond, as his contract was for three films. However, I think he would have left the series after that. Broccoli wanted Dalton to sign a second multi-film contract (if Dalton returned for 'Goldeneye') and for various reasons I can't see Dalton playing the role well into his fifties. As you said we were denied enough films to have Dalton properly established as Bond, which is a real loss.

    • @pianotm
      @pianotm 2 роки тому +3

      It was MGM's fault. They might have gotten him for GoldenEye if they hadn't insisted on a five movie contract. Dalton was ready to leave Bond behind, but he could have been convinced to do one more.
