I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this product. I have the pruner with the extended reach from last year, and that was underwhelming. This item is terrific though. Cuts super fast and easily cuts up to one inch branches. The 2.0 ah battery lasts a really long time. I did several hundred cuts and didn't even use one bar on the battery.
It has a light on the tip if that helps your decision making process.
The one thing I don't like on this tool, is the safety switch digs into your skin if you are wearing gloves. Only takes about 20 pulls, and you will feel it. With gloves, no problem at all.
Thanks for the demo. Just like my lawn mower having a light, it does come in handy. It's not for starting a project in the dark as you jokingly stated. It's for when you've been working out in the yard and just needed a bit more daylight to finish up. The light let's you get your tasks done as the sun is setting so you don't have to hit it again the next day.
Of course with my hand pruner, I think I need to cut a few branches, but then I find more and more and more I need to prune. Next thing I know I've wrecked my hand for the next week as the muscles recover from tackling too many thick branches.
Bought one a couple days ago, on sale for 69 bucks and I got the 10% vet discount. Works great. The 2A battery balances it perfectly.
The light, is a cool feature. Might have to trim some limbs in a power outage. At midnight.
Sure, laugh now, but your old pal is going to be ready to prune 24/7!

I have several Ryobi tools and this one is by far my favorite and the the one I use the most. I wish the blades could be replaced but according to Ryobi on the Home Depot website, they can’t be purchased. Which is my biggest gripe about it. Also, YES, be very careful as this thing could take your finger off without a problem 😩😩😩😩😩😩
Gave one to my mom, she loves it too.
I hate that they make these into "disposable" tools by not allowing for blade replacement.. Im also not a fan of it remaining open when off.. seems like it would be easy to damage the blade.

It’s fast. You appreciate the speed over the cordless Lopper and extension Lopper.
This is probably 0.3 to 0.5 seconds to accurate full open to close.
The extension Lopper is maybe 2.0 seconds full open to full close. They each have their own best use case, but if it’s within arms reach, this one is definitely the way to go.

I'm trying to decide between the Ryobi and the Dewalt one.
This Ryobi does seem to strain a lot more than the Dewalt does. To be fair, the Dewalt is designed for 1.5" max, which might be the deciding factors. Other report too that with the Dewalt, they can get up to 1,000 cuts per charge, which is just nuts. LOL
I just realized too that this Ryobi is actually more expensive for the "includes battery" kit than the Dewalt.
Hmmm... I just may have made a decision here, just by typing. LOL
It's annoying, however, because I do like Ryobi tools. I have a few.
I did want to get their nifty little cordless hand held router tool. I've seen that in action and it's really sweet.
THIS is where I wish that all these companies would just standardize their batteries so that any battery from any manufacturers fits each others' tools.
Yes, it is a huge scam that all the 18v tools use different batteries. The batteries are essentially the same inside.

I was able to repair a few batteries on my Porter Cable kit by using 18650 cells from other equipment that was trash, but the batteries were still good.
After you make your cut, don't release tension on the safety latch. And you don't have to push it down. Every time you make a cut, hold it down the first time. Make your cuts after your cut is done. Don't release the safety trigger. Gentle pressure keeps it down and you don't have to keep Pressing it

Faster than I thought it would cut. Would be great for my mom with hand issues. but so expensive.
I was surprised how quick it cut. I agree on the price. Still getting one for my 80 yr old mom.
At work we use infaco on the vineyards and orchards, they have a battery you wear on a harness and a wire going to the pruners.
they're like the jaws of life, they can cut grape trunks up to 8” and fruit tree limbs up to 4" in seconds, only downside is that they're around $3k, so I've been looking around for a cheaper option for around the homestead.
These look good, I'll probably Jerry rig a battery extension cord and make a belt clip for a battery pack so i can use bigger batteries and keep them light
I was using this yesterday, still works good.
I can see using a 12v battery adapter (hooked to a larger Ryobi battery on your belt) wired to an old (hollowed out) battery as a battery eliminator.
They make such a thing for the 40v line of tools.

This particular one sells from under $100 to well over $100 ( saw it as high as $179 )and there's no reason why there's such a wide spread of costs! Hope it goes on sale especially at this time of the year!
pricing on this is tough to follow. the ones that are $179 are typically a kit that has a battery and charger.
Got the Dewalt one it works great.

Beware, I loved it, too, it broke with less than 1 1/2 hours use on 2 separate days. All I was doing was trimming small branches off a larger one to fit in the garbage can. One of the blades and the mechanism where you oil it fell to the ground and seem to be missing parts now, even though I put them aside immediately. I do not live near a Home Depot or one of their repair centers, so I don’t know if the warranty will help. I have not heard good things about their customer service line. Any thoughts?
It was a real bummer because I was loving it until it became a paper weight.

I just purchased one of these and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get the blades to move.
Did you put some kind of oil on the moving parts for lubrication and after pruning the blades stay open are the supposed to close somehow? Thanks
I have not lubricated it, and yes, they stay open.

Does ryobi make a mini 8 inch hand held pruning chainsaw?
I can't remember if mine is 8 or ten inches. It is pretty slow compared to the bigger saw, so I pretty much just use the 16 inch saw.
Does this run off a battery? Or does it have a cord?
Great question! I should have covered it in the video. The battery charger has a cord. It charges the battery that you put in the pruner. Really ingenious actually.
