It's the best pruning tool I've ever used. The battery life has been excellent. I'm a professional landscaper and have done complete hedge renovations on one charge. It is excellent for pruning crape myrtles. It will take a couple of cycles on larger diameter limbs of harder wood, but it's never not completed the cut. It's a beast on cutting vines from around bushes, especially ivy. Highly recommend this tool if you do a lot of pruning!
This is an excellent tool, probably my most used gardening tool. I’ve had it since it was first introduced - only maintenance has been to touch up the blade occasionally. Plenty of power, never gets tired, and runs forever on a 5 Ah PowerStack battery.
89$ Home Depot, all I can say is wow, where has this little guy been my hole life. I got one for a weekend project and turnes out that my wife use it more and said we need another one. I absolutely love this dewalt pruner. Worth every penny!!
I have this and do a lot of yard maintenance each week with it, for about 4 months now. Absolutely beast and it's a favorite. I got it in hopes of replacing the use of loopers and a chainsaw for cutting what I need to into smaller pieces to fit into our city trash bins. It's saved me so much effort. I've cut well above it's rated diameter. I was worried as it was brushed but figured the same, that it was needed for the torque and hasn't been an issue. I use it with the 1.7 powerstack, compact and lightweight setup. Thought the handle was designed in an odd angle and shape but i've been proven wrong, it's very ergonomic.
One of the best overall tools you can have in your arsenal, I bucked over 150 yd.³ of yard waste branches with this thing filling a few dumpsters worth of cuttings during a multi week property cleanup
I have used mine heavily at my house for 4 months now. It has been worth its weight in gold. Amazing tool . yesterday it had problems and I believe the gears are stripping out. I will buy another if need be but for now I will see what warranty I have if any.
I always carry mine by the guard. It’s balanced very well carrying it that way. If you’re cutting something thicker, make sure that the branch is up against the bottom jaw. It cuts much better that way.
Thanks for the realistic demo. I like that you showed that not every branch would be a one cut pass. I have some Fiskar loppers and I don’t always get through on the first bite. Speaking of the Fiskars they’re probably 20 years old and finally giving out. I figured for a few bucks more I can go with these. Already in the Dewalt 20 volt system makes buying the bare tool and no brainer.
Thanks for the review. I have been wondering how well this works. I have japonica bushes that have stems up to about 3/4" and they are REALLY hard to get through for many average manual pruners. I think this tool will save me a lot of time and leave one hand free to toss cuttings that I wouldn't have free using a manual tool.
Tractor Supply has these on sale for $99 and get a free 5ah battery. They were out of the XR batteries so I got the pruner and a 5ah Powerstack for $99! Score!
I think this would also be great for people with one of those electric chippers that can only handle 1 1/2 inch branches, if this tool doesn't cut it in one pass, the branch is too big.
The reason you're having trouble with some of the larger limbs is because you're putting the movable blade against the wood surface. If you put the fixed blade against the wood and then pull the trigger, you'll get better results.
I have Scott's smaller version that can be used on a telescoping pole. Slower than the Dewalt and surely cant handle as big of branches as the DeWalt, but its still a good tool.
Pretty much any cordless tool that’s only 100 bucks without the battery to me is a great deal. Especially if it’s going to save you time and overworking yourself.
NEEDS A BIGGER BATTERY! LOOKS LIKE IT WORKS WELL! I OWN DEWALT TOOLS SO IT WOULD BE A GOOD ADDITION, ALSO I;M INTERESTED IN THE DEWALT MINI CHAIN SAW, LKE TO SEE A VIEDO ON THAT! THANKS!
It is now $119 at Home Depot. Going to go get it right now. Well i had to go back! $179 for 2 batteries and $119 for the battery charger... So $500? Altogether with tax? Incredible! Had to charge the batter for 2 hrs or so now its dark.
Mine worked great for 3 days. Then the trigger started sticking and jaws closed, but did not open again. I could tap it at first to free the trigger and blades, but within a few minutes, it just quit working altogether. I bought a second one, thinking the problem was an anomaly. The new one lasted two weeks, and the same thing happened again. The trigger gets stuck, the jaws stay closed. And I need to return both and find a different brand. It's a shame. This was a great tool, but only while it worked.
Always a dong in the bunch! If you would cut your fingers off with this, you will also cut your fingers off with a manual pruner! Just keep your fingers out of the jaw opening and it'll all be fine.
@@kylehahn1654 no manual pruners are just that manual. you are in full control and when something is made easier that generally also means faster and that leads to mistakes
Not to be gross, but your bones are harder than the wood and it would take some work to amputate your own finger. I've hit hard objects in the ground and it just stops, it's not a high horsepower tool. But then again, some people shouldn't use this tool. 😉😉
@@WorkshopAddictI would say it’s not far off. I’ve done a shocking amount of Ivy pruning on a similar battery. You’d be working really hard to need more than 4.0ah a day with this tool.
So, the battery lasts sort of proportionally to the sharpness of the blade, so keeping that blade sharp is key to 1100 cuts. First day I used it I cut continually for 4 hrs before the battery quit. I crawled back to the house that night but my 73 year old hand and arm were fine. Thanks to the fact it was less sharp the next few days, I was not so beat up when it was done. Been using the dulled blades on those in-the-dirt cuts on my berry bushes. Bought a backup blade with the initial purchase. I doubt I will ever use it. The blade is very easy to sharpen.
Can you imagine this vs. a finger or other body part..my neighbor has Myrtle trees that over my line to mow,,,they are the toughest to cut with pruners,,thinking this tool just for those…..
If they cut, or more likely don't cut clean with hand pruners, then yes this is the tool you need. I have some saplings that I prune that will not always cut clean by hand but this Dewalt makes it like butter.
I honestly think, for the cost, having this tool is pointless if you have a decent set of secateurs, as they do the same job in the same time. Or, if you already have Dewalt tools including a reciprocating saw, you could just use this
@WorkshopAddict Paulie from The Pope of Greenwich village when the mafia cut off his thumb, he was played by Eric Roberts great movie if you never seen it, the mob could have used this pruner to take off his thumb
Seriously? There is little risk to using this tool unless you are cutting near your unused hand. Pretty easy to keep it out of the way. But it is worth noting to make sure you keep it out of the way.
@@markopolo1 Why do I have to hold your hand when the video can actually be watched on your own??? It’s like in the very very beginning, first 15 seconds DUMMY he says it has brushes because it needs more torque

It's huge for being a pruner... manual are much smaller in comparison or just going with the milwaukee or ryobi are a better suit

How to change blade on dewahow to chage blade on dewalt pruner
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Wonder how much better this is than just using the 12v sawzall
It's a very clean quick cut with no jerking around. Sawzall would be better if you're cutting lots of larger branches.
I appreciate this unit, I need to purchase this unit by post
I usually prefer DeWalt but the Milwaukee pruner appears superior. Easier to fit in tight places and single stroke chopping ability. Pricy though.
Agreed.
