I love that era of CRs, and that is an absolute beauty. Hats off to your crew.
I had a 79 with the Simmons forks and Fox air shocks. Used it for Enduro. Tough as nails bike! Wish I kept the forks and shocks tho. $$$
I remember those. I had a RM. One friend had a YZ, one had the Elsinore. They were all very close. We had so much fun. Fast as hell for a 14 year old. I don't think I've ever had as much fun to this day. You have to be young to throw these things around. Awesome.
Beautiful piece of machinery absolute classic I’m jealous 😂
There were five of us in our group in 1972. All of us on 125s.
I rode a 1972 KE 125 stripped down.
Buddy #1 1972 KX 125
Buddy #2 Puch WR 125
Buddy #3 1970 Yamaha DT 100
Buddy #4 Honda TL 125
We all were 12-13 years old. Best time ever.
Kappy is literally the coolest badass on the planet... lol
I never realized Big Red made the Elsinore through '79. I always learn stuff on here along with being entertained by angry 2-strokes and wheelies, lol.
Wow i had one of those, fast damn fast!
Awesome bike, Kenny. I love it! Triple bonus points for wearing your helmet!
Right on!
45 years old already.
Man,----------------------time flies by when you are getting old.
Awesome Bike. Great job. I Had a ‘79 CR 125. Now in my 60’s I wish I hung onto every Bike, Sled, boat I had but life moves on. Had sell stuff to get something else.
Same kinda but mine was 77 cr125m with an upward exhaust someone put on I believe. Still so confused on that as I am sure it was 77 but they had down swept expansion chamber pipe and mine wasnt but I do remember it heating up the right side plate like it may have not been made for it. Anyways cool stuff! Memories! It ripped!
Had a 1978 original chrome bore elsinore 250. Found the last pair of rings at the local Honda dealer in 2009 or so. Placed a 36 mm mikuni carb on her, jetted perfect. Placed a 1986 cr 125 front forks with disk brake. Fit perfect and tight. Total rocket. Had decent low range Terrific mid and explosive top. Had to hang on for dear life. Great in woods, hill climbs and rocky creek crossings. It was a blast. Loved that bike. Have no idea why I sold it other than a bumb knee when i didnt respect it.....Just like the west coast 1988 Toyota Hi-Lux I sold. Knee is fine now.
Had the same. The sound brings it all back. My kick starter would vibrate off all the time.
@@Ultra54able My kick starter was floppy too! It's been a while but I think I was at a parts swap and some guy said he had a way of fixing those kickers.
@@Ultra54able It would also be interesting to know how many bores the 79 cylinder has on it. Sounded a smidge deeper than mine.
Had 79 125, 23' worked ok in the woods only nine hours on the cly. rings. Got good at changing top end
@@bettybobzimmerman7450 I bought a 79 cr125 and 80 cr125 package deal and parted them out. The 79 was complete with the 23". Never had the time to wrench them, and I wasn't as knowledgeable or financially solid back then. Never took a ride on either. Regret not having them today.
I googled it Kaplan was close but with all the bikes he has or has had im certain wires get crossed. It was the 1979 CR125 that had the 23"inch front tire option. However if the 125cc came with the 23'' why wouldn't the 250cc? That's just a quick google search. Everyone's am expert. But only few are experts! Far as im concerned Kaplan knows his shit and I absolutely love his videos! Can't wait to buy a bike from him one day.
What I wanna know is where the hell does this guy find so many OME parts! I have an extremely hard time with that!
Great bike! I raced flat track in the 80's and 90's on a Cheney framed CR250 which had a heavier flywheel, chrome sleeved cylinder and right side shifter. What a rocket! Cleaned house in the open class on my little 250! Thanks for bringing back the memories!
You have to love the red rocket.
Beautiful bike! I just found two of them in Canada. Drove 450 miles round trip, spent 35 minutes doing paperwork in Customs, and now they're in my garage. One is in riding shape, the other one will get restored. Both have the front sprocket cover, but one needs to be repaired. I'm a lucky guy!
I had a CR80 elsinore red devil when i was younger. Can relate. Nice bike. Love your Passion for bikes. Keep up the good work. Stay safe but have fun too.
Brings back so many memories. It sorted makes me feel bad. I'm 62 now and I'll always love those bikes
That is a beautiful old Honda! You all did a helluva job on it!
As much as i love aluminum swing arms from the late 70s that red Honda swingarm always looked great.
I love that red rocket beyond my time but absolutely gorgeous beautiful bike RRRRRRRRRIP THE HOUSE OFF THE FOUNDATIONS GREAT VIDEO Sir great filming Ronnie New England motorcycle museum number one 🏁🔥❤️ Great work wizard. Great work Kaplan team thanks for the info about the shirt. Awesome
Love Love those Honda Elsinore Red Rockets. Love how their engines were painted red, to go with the frame paint.
She's a beaut Clark!
Hi I rode one brand new in 79 when I rode the British champs, fantastic wee bike.
Awesome bike! My cousin had a 79 CR 125. He loved that bike.
Damn Im Very Glad I Found This Channel ---!!!! You guys Always Impress ,, Especially The CR Bikes !!! In 1990 I was in My Local National Guard Unit when one of the boyz in my motorpool showed up with a 1978 CR 250 R in the back of his pickup. Said he bought at a rummage sale for $35.00 !!! Cleaned carb and tank and he said I KNOW IT WAS NO MORE THAN 8 KICKS --!!!! It took me 2 months to talk him into selling it to me for a whopping ----$125.00 !!!!! Loved it too !!!
Unlike today, the handlebar and lever set up is correct, (not jacked up into a freestyle set up).
A smart man set that bike up. :)
I Had one... loved it... but just the 125 had the 23" front wheel... in 79-80 I think... the 250's fronts where 21" any years... And the rear shocks where pogo stick garbage... I replaced them with FOX with remote reservoirs... the real deal where the FOX air shocks...
I still think that would make a great club class bike with modern suspenders and disc brake... light, reliable fun... low cost... the sport is now way too much expensive....
You are not a bona fide MX Man until you have mastered the lefty kicker.
My all time favorite right there, awesome!
Bought a 79 cr in 1980 that was left over, brand new in the box 900$ loved it
Had an 81 cr 80 very quick for a 12 year old boy brilliant memories
Had a 3 wheeler with the same engine. Pretty stout powerband on it. Probably one one most dangerous machines I've been on. Had my legs chewed under the tires and yanked me off the seat more than once.
These bikes are the ducks guts , I'm a rm lover , but I'd love to have this bike in a heart beat , it' hurts me that I'm in Australia, and with the exchanchange rate and import costs , these unicorn bikes are out of my reach 😣, anybody that can afford such quality should go for it , they are only going to appreciate 😚😚😚
Sweet
Muskie. 1 would agree what a sweet bike lol old school and its the greatest in the land that is true love to old heads like us lolgood show bro very nice
I had one just like that for many yrs, sold it and bought a 1980 brand new. Both were great bike!..
Stunning looking all red Honda
I love that bike! I had one just like it (except for my shock boots were blue) that I bought in 83’. I owned it up until 2000 when it was unfortunately stolen. Great bike! And your aren’t kidding about that hole shot. Always started in second and would almost always nail that hole shot. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Hey, hammerhead hear. Another great job and love all the videos.
I was 15 in1980 and living in Houston Texas and the economy was so good right then at the same time the the jumping dirt bikes came out and it was so fun and memorable.
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
haqd same bike out of high school raced it here in iowa at ia state fiargrounds they had a motocross bike class back then we all raced in the winter time inside a horse pavilian a little bull ring outlaw 3wheelers 4 wheelers motocross class n big boy open flat track bikes it was a blast everyone in the pits drinking beer then racing what they brung lol
I just realized the 79 CR did not have the new mandatory FIM extended side number plates. That was a demand on the manufactures for 1979. But this one was OK, as it was about more accurate scoring, and not really telling us what to make and ride like today.
Wow my one next door naughbor had this same kind of bike that takes me back years looking at this bike ken your amazing bro 😎 I don’t know how you find these bikes there tike brand new
I had 76 Elsinore but in 79 I got the Maico Magnum 400 I have a 79 XR80
now & 8 other bikes .😂
The best cr ever made absolutely stunning
you have to be luckiest man alive,to get to find an ride all of these
Nice bike and paint, also it sound so crisp.
My Big Poodle's pal, The Pug, has a red rocket
As a kid I had subscription to Cycle World magazine. Cycle World tested this bike and I wished they had a CR80 version. Next year they did and I got one.
❤❤❤❤❤ Man it's Sweet.. and still sounding killer..
Very Euro looking and setup
I got one when I was 14 in 79. Local guy bought it new and got hurt right away. Stole it for 800 bucks. Broke the frame and always had problems keeping spokes in it til I went DG rims and spokes. Total beast and absolute blast to ride.
I ran a race on a borrowed 250 that wasn’t that good. I still remember how much power it had compared to my YZ 250. I thought if I could have swapped engines I would have been unbeatable. It was a pain to ride because it felt like the bike was folding in half compared to my mono shock. I’m 65 now but man that bike is a memory!
For the year it was manufactured the big is a BEAST.
I had the 125 at 14 year's old. Great fun
RED ROCKET RED ROCKET RED ROCKET🚀🚀🚀
Gorgeous bike. PVL ignition… Good equipment from Germany. What about a case saver? Do they make one because I would sure hate to see that chain bust open that gorgeous case!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
Never mind. You just answered my question about the case saver. If it was mine I think I could whip one up pretty quick but that will be up to the new owner. Definitely not a problem out in my garage though. Lol. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅
Beautiful Bike! 😀 I love that era!
Man I love your video I had a 79 Elsinore I bought it from a friend dad it was only a couple years old when I got it but it was brand spanking new and hardly had been rode I rode it for about 3 years and then I moved up to a newer one and sold it to a friend he wrote it for a few years and sold it to another friend we kept it around for 20 years man that bike would fly it was so fast I would run with 500 no s***it was awesome I wished I would have never got rid of it
Wow she's a RIPPER Wizard TUNED 😊
Hopefully everyone is well governor 💙🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌎
1980-年頃乗ってました17才でした怒濤の加速を思い出します初のフルサイズモトクロッサーとても懐かしく当時は無限のスイングアームにフロント~リアサスペンションも無限でした
Beautiful
I love it an it’s a couple of years older than me and in better condition
What a beauty! That was my 11th grade wet dream
I had a 76 and I was not impressed with it. I didn't know anything about jetting, etc.. Sold it to a friend and he uncorked it. I ran into him at the Glastonbury riding area ( Ken you probably remember the name of this place?) and he let me ride it. I couldn't believe it was the same bike!
Stunning to say the least. I am curious about the impact of aftermarket parts like the handlebars, grips, lever and throttle. Do they detract from the value? Would it be worth more to have all original parts?
Hammer 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gorgeous sexy powerful bike however
may you please place some long carb hoses both upper and lower
to keep this beauty"s engine paint clean.
Kaplan Cycles always showing the best. Craft at the shop.
Shes a rippa beautiful bike ken ive always wondered what was the reason the early ones had the left side kicker i no most european bikes did and ktm still did til not so long back
Had the 79 125 and 250. The 125 was pristine but the 250 had a broken clutch cover, so they had riveted on a metal plate and some jbweld. I think we took those rivets out and just laid a metal plate over and then filled it over with jb weld. Actually, stayed together and never broke. Never laid it on that side either.
Yeah buddy!!!
WFO🤙🏼
Nasty lil sun of a gun. ❤
I saw one for 1k chrome with the green. I missed out
That sound!
I bought my 1980 cr 80 brand new at cycles 128 for 735$ I wish I kept it

I live near lake elsinore in gavilan hills dirtbike capitol of the world up here.
Me and my dad have the 1981 250 and 125 first year for water cooled first year for mono shock and last year they called it the Elsinore.
love your channel ken
Hav one in the barn,1979
ive arrived in California on my way back to South America .. how long to drive from California to you guys ??
The 79 CR250's didn't come with a 23" front wheel. Not sure where your getting your info? Only the 79 CR125 came with a 23" front wheel and most the XR's had 23" front wheels.
My freinds '79 did. He had Fox air shocks on the rear, otherwise it was bone stock. It had bad headshake with a 21" , the turn-in was fantastic, but it was twitchy, compared to a same year YZ.
@@jamesgeorge4874 The 79 250's did not come new with 23 " front wheels. Go look at any online parts list for the front wheel and tire sizes for the stock 1979 CR250. All were 21" The CR 125 DID come with a 23". Not saying you couldn't install one . I am sure some people tried it.
@@skydancerforever like I said. My freind bought one, new, with Fox shocks. With a 23" front. From the dealer. Sorry you weren't there.
@@jamesgeorge4874 I didn't say he didn't buy it with a 23" and fox shocks from a dealer. I said the bike comes NEW stock with a 21" front wheel and Honda Showa rear shocks from the factory. I have a a friend that has a brand new 79 CR250 in his Museum along with a 79 CR125. Never had gas in it or started. 21" front wheel and Showa shocks on the CR250. Any dealer can add on other components when bike was new and sell the bike that way. Many dealers did back in the day. We are talking about 2 different things here.
love this
Only the 125 had 23”
nice!
thats a nice cr .......BUT I WANT THAT 1978 KZ 1000 R WITH THE COFFIN TANK RIGHT BEHIND IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....PLEASE SEND ME SOME INFO & PRICE PLEASE !!!! thank you jim

Rockville ct
@@KaplanCycles I looked it up on google maps . I am only a days drive away
Steve McQueen would of had one.
How much engine power does the bike have
He said 34
I have all the old school dirt bikes RM YZ. KX hodaka KTM I'm now 60 has been abused from speed but the fastest stock bike as far as old school was definitely that CR red rocket the Elsinore was definitely the baddest
lol
Is that politically correct 😂. You’ve got to have that sense of humor 👍
Hey Kaplan, cool bike. What kind of boots are you wearing in this video?
