Spring Cleanup 2022: Republic Services Garbage Trucks Packing Bulk

On the first Saturday of the Spring Cleanup in Elmhurst, about 35 trucks were sent out to tackle the piles residents had at their curbs. Compared to other cleanups I’ve seen in this town this was definitely one of the lighter ones, and they were pretty much done by about 8:45 in the morning. Not many of the older trucks/spare were sent out, so I decided to spend my time getting a few clips of the trucks with drivers I’ve filmed before who I always enjoy catching up with. Since this is an automated town, I tend to focus on getting video of the rear loaders at their cleanup since pretty unusual to see here, plus rear loaders crushing bulk is more fun to watch in my opinion. I have plenty more cleanup videos stocked up so you can expect to see more from me, and hopefully you all enjoyed the trucks included here!

but by the same token a lot of companies expect employees to live for their job which is just as ridiculous.

I agree, it’s awesome getting to see pretty much all of their residential trucks right in one town. One of the ASL guys was saying he wanted to take his Python so he could grab bulk with the arm but the supervisor told him to take an RL instead haha

Seeing this type of garbage that the population leaves on the street, I was convinced that here in Brazil we are many years ahead. Our garbage collection is much better organized.
Collection here is containerized, but this is a special cleanup the town does where residents can put an unlimited about of waste at the curb which is why it may appear a bit more messy

Great find- lot of hard work for the drivers and they work so good as a team. They are lucky to have the group out there videoing all this to show all

it's amazing at how much stuff gets put out for trash. At the third pickup spot the light tan sofa and love seat looked like nothing was wrong with them.
Yeah I was thinking that the owner could have at least given those couches to Goodwill or something. Someone would have made use of them
Never seen that many garbage trucks on one route picking up trash. When I was out there you had garbage day and maybe recycle the next day was yard waste. This is crazy look like they got four trucks out there for one route that must be a big ass route to pick up but you only have one driver on each truck where is the labor ready guy throwing in a driver falls of the helping to that’s how we did it
This is a special cleanup done annually, anyone who wants more hours for the week signs up and takes their truck. They fill up fast, so it makes sense to send as many trucks as they can to get done sooner since they’re all paid for overtime

Nice video! I’m typically not the biggest fan of bulk but this one was pretty fun to watch. Loved seeing multiple trucks in one video, especially seeing both rear loaders and front loaders. It was really neat to see them working on some of the same streets too, awesome work!

(just an idea,, might be better to have a few roll off containers distributed a few blocks apart in the neighborhood so people can throw all of the oversize stuff by themselves, once is full pick it up and spring clean up is done, everyone helps and do their part)

Awesome video, it’s always fun to watch trucks sit at one stop and pack away. I know you said this one was on the lighter side, but I can’t help but think it it would be more efficient for them to reduce the number of trucks sent out, and double up some of the guys and run a few two man crews, since it seemed there was multiple trucks on each street at all times, and they tended to group up anyways, unless of course they need all the truck yardage they can get. Great work as always!
Thanks! I thought it was cool that they just kept rolling up as I was recording, especially with the front and rear loader since I could get all the action in one shot. I was pretty surprised that they didn’t send some two man crews that day either, since no one was really that close to packing out. Always appreciate the comments!

Yeah I work for mascaro, and anything bulk I get but I do front load... The other drivers would just ignore it lol, especially mattresses and couches, but couches with metal frames.... No no no it breaks up in the hopper and slides under the blade and can hit your hydraulic lines, that and pallets are terrible
Bulk is definitely better in a rear loader. In my city it’s called in so it’s a must. Some other cities if you don’t they will call and you’ll have to go back breaking rt. Usually they send out a rear load. Corodo can is for the new city barrels as well as front load is for more comecial stops of trash or recycling bulk is left behind for commercial rear load rt looks like a heavy city so there’s two trucks and there just trying to finish up and saying fuck the front load getting jammed and lots fill it quickly as it tends to fill faster then a rear load. I worked for a few local places and WM. Did corodo can rear load then coasted into roll off
@@gdejesus6341 yeah to be honest I thought driving a trash truck wouldn't be a bad job lol, it's got it's up and downs but it actually is one of the most dangerous difficulty jobs I have done. My company laid back but also to laid back people don't do shit or their stops. I do apartment complexes and commercial stops. But people get real ignorant with the bulk, and maintenance people at these apartment places don't help 😂

Do you think this job will get automated by robots? I want to be a garbage man but just scared that robots will take our job. Not too sure.
Over the years they’ve containerized and automated routes and theres still a national shortage of CDL drivers, you can apply anywhere you want. Some places are harder to get in at than others though

Seems kind of a waste. Meaning why have one person drive a truck and the another person drive a truck just to go to the same spot. Why not 2 people go on 1 truck and save money.
