@@9to5techs it would suit Europe's weather & apartment living very well. I live in Australia & most people do one or two big washes a week, so not good for families. Now we are retired & hubby helps with washing it would be good, especially since it can do a king sized duvet. Mine can just manage queen size, however I take blankets to the laundromat (expensive). Also our weather is hotter than cold we dry clothes outside. 🇦🇺👍❤️

It would behoove you to get in the habit of cleaning out the lint filter after every dry cycle is complete. I fix appliances and that is one of the most common reasons for a service call. Great review and love the channel!
I actually work with these and GE recommends cleaning that side every 5 loads. The other after every 50 or so. Still, that looks like more than 5 loads work of buildup.
On mine, I have found that you need to stick a long narrow vacuum cleaner nozzle into the slot the lint filter sits to get the built-up lint that sits in that area. If you do that the unit runs very well, and it has lowered my gas bill (my previous dryer was gas) with very little rise in my electric bill.
15 years ago, I had a similar, but much smaller unit in my apartment. Same deal. But I had to connect the unit to the faucet each time. That’s how it got water in and out. It would heat the water to steam, collect it, then condense it back to water to remove via the spout. Full load took like 5 or 6 years. But it worked for me. Do a load before work or bed and it was done when you’re done.

The only real advantage of a combo unit over two separate units is compactness and forgetful people such as myself don't have to worry about forgetting a load in the washer because it's the same machine that does both, this particular unit uses a different method of drying, The vast majority of dryers at least in North America (from what I hear, this type of dryer is a little more common in Europe and a lot more common in Asia, although I cannot confirm either of those statistics) use either natural gas or what is effectively a gargantuan space heater to produce a lot of heat very quickly to dry the clothes, what did this unit does? Is it basically has a window AC unit packed into the bottom or the top (all the ones I'm aware of put it in the bottom but I'm not going to rule out some do the top) and what they'll do is they'll run air over the clothes which will then pick up some of the moisture from said clothes and then run it over what would normally be the inside part of the AC unit which will cause the air to get cold which will cause a lot of the moisture to condense out and onto the cooling bit. And this now dehumidified air will pass over The outside part of this AC unit which will heat it back up which will allow the air to take on a lot more water again and then it'll just keep cycling the air. The two advantages of this technology compared to the alternative options of natural gas or gargantuan space heater is you're not exhausting air out of your house, Which anywhere where you have heating or cooling for your house could be detrimental because you are now exhausting that air that you paid to heat or cool out. And because your house is not a vacuum chamber outside air is going to have to come in. And now you're going to have to pay to heat or cool that air, also, this technology is much more energy efficient. It may take up to four times longer to dry clothes than an electric dryer, but if it's using a fifth, the energy per unit of time, even when it takes four hours It's still going to have only used 4/5 of the energy and these will generally take much less than 4 hours. Also, the instantaneous power draw is a lot lower so solar powered homes this might open the possibility at all of having a dryer because you might not have the power budget to be powering one of these whilst doing all your other little electrical needs, or for homes with 100 amp service again. It could be the same thing. You might not be able to have an electric dryer, but you might live in an area where gas isn't reliable or you just want to switch away from gas for whatever reason (like for example natural gas being more expensive than electricity in a lot of places) so this allows you to have an electric dryer when you otherwise probably wouldn't be able to
@@the_undead There are actually several advantages: 1. You put in a load and it will both wash and dry the load, meaning you can set and forget until you come back to take it out. You can't do that with separate washer and dryer. 2. It's ventless, so you're not taking conditioned air from your house, heating it and dumping it outside, through a vent that frequently clogs with lint and can be a fire hazard. 3. The dryer function is powered by a heat pump, which heats the air inside, runs it over the load to capture moisture, then cools that air to wring the moisture out of it, sending it to the laundry drain. This is simply moving heat around instead of generating it using electric resistance heating, so your laundry room doesn't heat up as much as it would with a typical dryer. And as you said, since it's moving heat instead of generating it, it uses a lot less electricity than an old-style electric dryer. 4. It has automatic detergent and fabric softener dispensers, which if used mean that you can't possibly kill the machine by putting in too much detergent. There are many videos on UA-cam talking about people destroying their HE washers by using too much detergent. BTW I use the fabric softener dispenser to dispense laundry sanitizer. You should never actually use fabric softener, because it's nasty and causes problems with washers.

Worked with a GE engineer when washers/dryers/stoves sold to Chinese company. The first thing they did was determine how many extra screws were used in the construction. He was asked why the washing machine tub was made of thicker metal. His answer was "so that it would last". The tubs were made thinner. Current GE appliances are not made by GE, they sold a lot when their finance arm went belly up. The problem with current GE appliances is that they have a design life of 5-7 years. That way you have to buy more over time.
I’ve seen bicycle driven washers that have plans online. At one point, just for fun, I decided to try and design a dog powered washer. That worked out pretty well. Then I moved. 😊 I happen to like hanging laundry, so I didn’t mess with that part. I guess that’s my kink. 😂
I have the exact same model, & I love it. Clean the lint out every time you load it for more efficient drying. I use a lint brush, which collects it up in a wad. Lots of pet hair in there. Also, lint will accumulate in the big door gasket. Just run your finger around inside the big groove occasionally to get the bits out. I was so happy to get rid of the big vent tube which kept coming loose all the time. I live by myself, so I do a load of wash every 3 days or so. I think your animals are delightful, and so well behaved. You’ve done a good job with them.
That's pretty snazy. I wear the same outfit every day (tee shirt, jeans) and have 7 changes. I bought a $100 useded automatic clothes washer back in the day and dry on a clothes line. Been doin that for nearly 14 years now. Works like a champ. Pittance well spent. 😂 BTW - I homestead alone, so there's nobody to complain about not having a lot of on-grid niceties. Just got one person to please, me.
I like the older machines better than the new ones. I bought a new front loader washer and dryer set and hated it , it was a fight to keep the washer from being stinky . After the washer broke for the second time ,I trashed the washer and gave away the dryer. I then bought a used set which I really like.

When I was a young, I helped my grandmother do her laundry. You had to put your own hot/cold water in using a thing that hooked on to the bathtub faucet and in a big open drum with no lid it would wash. My job was to catch the clothes after she had run them through a powered mangle and put them in a basket on the floor. (There was the possibility of getting your fingers pinched between the two rollers) it was possible to crack buttons into bits between those rollers.😊
We have a washer/dryer combo very similar to that in our 5th wheel. We didn't like it at first when it was not vented. It took hours and hours to dry. But the We vented it and it is a night and day difference. Venting it literally took like 3 hours off dry time. We experienced that super wrinkly problem. Found a 6 pack of wool washer/dryer balls. Took that problem away. I like your reviews Nate. I think you are very truthful with them.
There is nothing to vent on these because they are based on a heatpump. The whole system is based on recerculating air, there is no connection on the back.
@Diogenes76 mine I my rv is same. But it is ventable if you take a and switch around a few things. Mine is different brand that might be why we were able to do so.

@Diogenes76 I know with ours. It made the room about 300% humidity and hot as he'll. Literally took 3-4 hours to dry. Vented it takes 50min-1½hrs not extra heat or humidity in camper. Worked well for us. I was going to have to buy a stack foe my camper if it didn't work.
You almost certainly did not have a heat pump dryer, because venting a heat pump dryer would not only spoil its function, it would cause it to work harder and use more electricity.
One of the interesting caveats of a washer/dryer combo is that you can wash more than you can dry is where it can get you in trouble with long drying times. Conventional separate washer dryer setup is that the dryer drum is larger than the washer due to the much needed space to fluff up the clothes as it dries. On my combo unit, I can wash between 2 to 15 lbs of clothing, but only 2 to 10 in combo mode. So, I just got in a habit to weigh out my clothes so I can stay within the recommended limits and it works perfectly fine. I normally line dry my clothes, but the dryer feature is great for those humid and wet days. Don't forget to check and clean the pump filter at least once a month to make sure no coins, miscellaneous hardware, etc. will eventually make its way there and clogging it.
@@rking8416 depends on the make and model. Mine is hidden behind a cover on the bottom front. I just put a baking sheet to catch any residual water when I remove the lint/debris screen plug.
These type of machines started overseas where living spaces are smaller, families are smaller, and people own fewer clothes. You need to commit to having laundry running 24/7 if you have more than two people. They do clean and dry just fine but like with anything you are unfamiliar with you need to learn new ways. But you would be very thankful to have one if you only had a tiny spot in your kitchen for a machine and a balcony clothesline. My British mother in law was using one of these back in the late 60’s.
Nah, there are three people in our house and we do 4-5 loads a week. On Saturday we do two loads, and loads other days. You can put the load in in the morning and take it out when you come home, it will be dry and ready. But by replacing two units, I reclaimed space in my laundry room that I used to install cabinets to add more storage.
I’ve had one from a different company and it was a lot to get used to, but we adjusted and I’m thrilled with it now. I even had one installed in my master bedroom closet because I have mobility issues. Tapped into the shower water and drain that was right beside the closet. Perfection!
This is amazing when you have 1 or 2 ppl living in the home. A home with a full family would probably need to different choice. I think it's an awesome setup for you both. Glad you're enjoying it, so far. I usually am a bush watcher and don't chat. I'm so intrigued with your lifestyle because growing up my dad raised my younger brothers and I, with mom, in an off grid lifestyle, but we lived less than 20 mins from any store you can think of. LOL
German here. Condensing and Heat Pump driers have been the norm here for 30 and 10 years respectively. Bigger families just run the washing machine daily for one or two loads and a few more on the weekends. Never had anyone complain their drier takes an hour per load and the washer usually is about 2-2.5h. It's just a matter of beeing used to it.
@@tschuuuls486 This sounds suspicious, over here a normal dryer can still take multiple hours but the washer usually only takes about an hour. Also I thought most Europeans used clothes lines still? it makes sense that your heat pump driers would be faster than ours because you guys use 240v power not 110v but that much faster seems far fetched.(our regular driers run on 220v so you wouldn't expect much of a difference there. our power system is weird.) And the washer taking 2+ hours is also weird. That's why you may of seen some American homes shown to have 3 machines, larger families will run a 2nd dryer to make up for the bottle neck.
Lake Mead said if you do all your laundry on the weekend and you have to do about 6 loads a day, this machine is not for you. But if you're able to adapt to doing a load a day or whatever other system works for you then the system would be perfect because these systems don't draw enough power to be a concern of when things go wrong fire starting, so you could absolutely put your clothes in there before work hit the start button and then when you get home from work your clothes are done (because it's a washer dryer combo)
The sad part is there's really no reason for this to be as expensive as it is, fundamentally this is a washing machine with a window AC unit and a slightly smarter logic board to accommodate drying with a window AC unit, whereas a normal washer just has to worry about washing. I would expect a reasonable market cost of a product like this to be more in the realms of 25-50%, more than an equally speced washer and a reasonably priced window AC unit combined, not several times the price of those two items combined like these things are right now
It reminds me of the units full time sailboat cruisers have aboard their yachts. They're smaller so they have to do laundry more often like you do with this unit.
Hey, the best thing is to wash the lint filter with hot water ge recommends I believe every 20 loads do what you did they recommended after 5 The black filter is fully removable and can be replaced if it gets torn The condensing coils also need to clean every ounce In a while, along with the air ducting for dryer over all needs clean overall. clean kits on Amazon do a fantastic job of this Some things I've I've noticed I like the scent from actually stays in the clothes from the soap not overpowering just enough you tell it's been Definitely, It made a dent in the electric bill it is very efficient and then drying due to it being extremely easy on clothes. clothes feel soft coming out this machince and they definitely didn't coming out my old cabrio set if anyone, including nate, has any questions about this machine, feel to ask. I've also not had it very long, though 3 months this week and 61 loads total
I bought a combo in 2002 that lasted 13 years and its replacement is still working. Your review is spot-on, it exactly reflects what I've learned about these machines. When the weather's nice I hang my clothes outside and skip the dry cycle.
I got one of those in November. I love it. No need for a hole in the wall. That soft dry keeps issue of static electricity to a minimum. I clean my filter every time because my dogs shed a lot. It uses less water too than a typical top loader so it is easy on the septic system. The label on it said it used $12 per year in electricity. It does shake our old house for a bit on spin cycle. It is so big it makes my bathroom feel crowded, but I don’t have to go to the laundromat a big win.

This is one of those products I’ve always had an interest in but haven’t really researched. This is a very helpful review and I’ll definitely be sharing it with people I know who are also looking into homesteading.
I’ve been eyeing this for some months now. I’m moving to Cincinnati soon and so many of the houses have their laundry in the basement. I said NO! With this you don’t have to vent to the outside and that’s a game changer to have the unit on your same living level.
We have this washer and we use a vacuum to clean the filter and we have a lint lizard attachment and clean inside the filter area every wash. It's a pain but it works.
We've got a much older LG all-in-one unit, and it's lasted well over a decade now. The pump had to be replaced at one point, which was almost a pretty easy DIY job, but otherwise it's been flawless. We don't use the drying function fully; after the clothes have been spun about 50% dry, we take them out and hang them up, and they dry in a couple of hours indoors, year-round, no problem. The drying rack we use for stuff that shouldn't be hung up has the footprint of a dryer but folds away most of the time, so it's a big win. Two notes! First, a lot of modern washers and dryers have circuit boards that are not protected at all from humidity and dust and lint. This is a frequent point of early failure. The boards can be replaced, but you can also often open the machine and just put a partial plastic shroud (made from a soda bottle or whatever) around the board. Some machines are easy to open, and this is a half-hour DIY project, and some are a pain. UA-cam will know. Two, front loaders need that door gasket cleaned periodically, or rather the gap around it. You can pretty much do it with your finger, on most of them. If you don't, on most units lint will build up around the edge of the drum, eventually causing friction that will make the machine less efficient and possibly eventually burn out a belt or the motor or so on. Every month or two may be plenty often to clean it.

I just found this video and this is revolutionary I never knew a washer and dry combined in one machine now I need to know where to buy this for my small house as I can only fit my washer in one room and have to air dry my clothes or take them to the laundromat to dry I glad I found this video
We have had one of these for 6 months. At first I didn’t like it because the clothes felt so damp at the end of the drying cycle, but I soon learned that it was a temporary problem. I do hate to sort and put away clothes immediately after drying them, but I have learned that clothes get very wrinkled if you don’t put them away shortly after taking them out of the machine. Sometimes I can let them wait a little longer by fluffing them up a scattering them across the top of the bed until I have more time to fold and/or hang them. In summary I actually like this machine better than the old washer and dryer that we used to have, but it takes some getting used to!
Good video, like the review. The one thing that I’ve heard about those machines is, the filters have to be cleaned after each use or it will elevate the drying times significantly. I am currently contemplating purchasing one, but I am not sure if I can adjust my living style to it. Keep up the great work! 👍🏼
Update on 2 GE Profile Combo Units... as of today, approximately 50 to 60 loads have been run in each unit with 0 buildup of "anything" on the Coil / Condenser! The modified filters have 0 issues. I vacuum the filters minimum once a week or when the machine notifies to do it. Once a week for me is laundry for 5 people across both machines. I continue to post videos of the modified filters during the cleaning process and inspect the modifications, and they are holding up Excellent. I will be putting together kits to be sold for the people that do not want to source the items and make everything fit on their own. I will prepare pre-done Kits of everything that is needed with simple instructions to follow that will take no more than 5 to 10 Minutes to complete. Kits as of now will start at $35- + Shipping. Includes pre-cut weather stripping for Top and Bottom, Weather stripping for the Rear, and a choice of upgraded Filter Pad. Electrostatic style or Merv 8 Style Media is white color on entry side, and (tacky) surface on exit side. The tacky surface stops the finer particles from passing through the filter. The pads are washable, however as of 2 months on them, vacuuming is working just fine. For the best protection, you can just replace them every 4 to 6 months also. The tacky surface will collect the finest of lint and keep it out of the coil without causing restriction of airflow. The primary screen is the biggest area that needs to be kept clean. Latest addition to the Filter also includes Plastic hold down washers to keep the pad centered and locked in place so no gaps can occur in the housing. I spent a lot of time and money to make this bullet proof, and it keeps my OCD in check LOL. Contrary to what end users believe, if you do not modify the filter, cleaning it after every load will actually cause more problems. The reason for this is lint is getting on or past the upper and lower rail assembly and working its way past the filter. Every time you pull out the filter, clumps of lint will get by or shoved to the rear of the assembly which cannot easily be seen or cleaned.
You would think that GE knew of these problems with the leaky filter and fixed them either before launching the unit or shortly thereafter. But they haven't. Until they do I will wait before considering this unit. Congrats on your fix-it kits to the filter problem.
@@DrRussPhd You just need to vacuum the interior of the slot the filter fits in once every 2-3 months or 100 or so loads, to knock down any buildup of lint in the corners. If you don't have a crevice tool for your vacuum you may need to buy an attachment.
Just did a class on this exact appliance for servicing. If they offer extended warranty, I’d strongly suggest it. Because if that heat pump assembly goes out, It’s expensive. Spend a little extra money to cover your butt. Highly suggest. Because a lot of technicians are not going to be thrilled working on this because it is a pain to take apart and repair. But! If you care for it, clean the lint filter, clean the drain filter routinely (monthly for me), you should be okay. That being said, appliances break all the time no matter the brand. I do like you don’t need a vent, it’s great for small quarters, and it gives me codes when I need to diagnose it. So overall, not too bad from what I’ve seen so far. Ask me in a year or 2 and see if my opinion is the same. Hope this helps people who might be curious.
I have the same machine for over 6 months now with 2 toddlers and I love it. The only reason why laundry might seem like it takes longer is because you are using only 1 machine, so you can't start another wash load when the switching to dry. But with it being able to wash and dry more clothes at one time, including King size comforters (which cost me $60 to do at the Laundromat) I find it truly to be time saving, easier, and not to mention 800 rebate from Uncle Sam because it's a heat pump!

There are still a lot of people going to laundromats and I could see them changing their habits of lugging tons of laundry and spending a whole day washing and drying clothes. I love that it uses a regular plug. I used to have a dryer like that, it was an apartment size washer and dryer. It's also nice not to have regular dryer venting. Thanks for the review Dryers should generally only be used due to weather restrictions that make it unworkeable to air/sun dry; love that you're promoting this principle as dryers are overused when not necessary
Thank you for this review. This would be useful to put a load in at night to run and wake up to dry clothes (may have to wrinkle remove, but it is fine). The power companies want you to do tasks like washing clothes in off peak hours and have priced the off peak hours accordingly.
I don't have one of those but I would find it very helpful. I like that it is ductless yet still dries clothes. I live in a trailer and currently have a smallish washer and no dryer. I don't mind hanging clothing to dry but that isn't always easily done here.
I work for an appliance company doing deliveries and installations. My boss liked these units so much that he got one for his mother and his son. I'm actually doing another installation on one tomorrow, people seem to like them.
1:52 Try moistening your fingertips before removing lint from the filter. Makes it a lot easier to start removing, particularly if there's a low volume of lint. The drawback is that some lint will stick to your moistened fingertips. Rubbing the ball of lint will remove that too.
Nate ever thought about adding a decent sizes 2 part lake with a water wheel generator between so when it rains or after snow thaw you get some extra power year round
I've been thinking about an all-in-one washer/dryer for a while now, but it would have to be one with a traditional heating element instead of a heat pump, and it would probably be nice to have two of them so I can run 2 loads at once (like you can with a separate washer and dryer). Being able to both wash and dry without having to change it over would make things so much easier. I often forget that I have wet laundry, so I keep having to rewash it just in case there was mildew growth.
Just bought mine and working on the first load! This is what my lady wanted to happy wife happy life lol 😂 also want to note that it is definitely heavy at 300 pounds! I’m a bigger guy so it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve done but if your laundry room is hard to get to or has a lot of stairs I recommend to have someone else there to help you!
if you will clean the dryer with each wash, it will dry more quickly. leaving the lint blocks the air flow, and the lint collects moisture and then you have to dry the lint again. They use this type of washer all over Europe and in the larger RV's.
I recently got solar at my normal style house and a normal boring suburb. And I've been looking into heat pump dryers and seeing this runoff of 110 and do both, I'm intrigued. Thank you for this review. The price is a bit steep. I will admit but considering all the features it has and that it is a heat pump could be worth it when I have the extra cash.
In India we call these fully automatic front load washing machine, (Top load if door is at top) These mostly work on water pressure, so with good water pressure it will fill up fast and work more faster, Low water pressure can easily increase time from 1h to 1h 30min or 2h
I currently have the same machine that Nate had in the camper. It works great, but I haul a LOT of water to do laundry. Seems like an upgrade from that!
I've watched about a dozen appliance repair shop reviews and most of them like it because a majority of the parts are already available since it uses parts from current machines on the market. They also say its easy to maintain but like you said, people will need to change some habits. Personally I would love to get one as soon as I build out a box truck conversion.
As a european it's very unusual to even see a machine that is not designed to fit under a typical 80cm high board. Even freestanding machine are not so big. Interesting to see such a machine.
As a appliance repair man this unit is ok as long as you only expect it to last through the 5 year sealed system remember its a refridgerator washer dryer combo and that system will be super expensive to repair a refridgerant leak

The only real advantage of a combo unit over two separate units is compactness and forgetful people such as myself don't have to worry about forgetting a load in the washer because it's the same machine that does both, this particular unit uses a different method of drying, The vast majority of dryers at least in North America (from what I hear, this type of dryer is a little more common in Europe and a lot more common in Asia, although I cannot confirm either of those statistics) use either natural gas or what is effectively a gargantuan space heater to produce a lot of heat very quickly to dry the clothes, what did this unit does? Is it basically has a window AC unit packed into the bottom or the top (all the ones I'm aware of put it in the bottom but I'm not going to rule out some do the top) and what they'll do is they'll run air over the clothes which will then pick up some of the moisture from said clothes and then run it over what would normally be the inside part of the AC unit which will cause the air to get cold which will cause a lot of the moisture to condense out and onto the cooling bit. And this now dehumidified air will pass over The outside part of this AC unit which will heat it back up which will allow the air to take on a lot more water again and then it'll just keep cycling the air. The two advantages of this technology compared to the alternative options of natural gas or gargantuan space heater is you're not exhausting air out of your house, Which anywhere where you have heating or cooling for your house could be detrimental because you are now exhausting that air that you paid to heat or cool out. And because your house is not a vacuum chamber outside air is going to have to come in. And now you're going to have to pay to heat or cool that air, also, this technology is much more energy efficient. It may take up to four times longer to dry clothes than an electric dryer, but if it's using a fifth, the energy per unit of time, even when it takes four hours It's still going to have only used 4/5 of the energy and these will generally take much less than 4 hours. Also, the instantaneous power draw is a lot lower so solar powered homes this might open the possibility at all of having a dryer because you might not have the power budget to be powering one of these whilst doing all your other little electrical needs, or for homes with 100 amp service again. It could be the same thing. You might not be able to have an electric dryer, but you might live in an area where gas isn't reliable or you just want to switch away from gas for whatever reason (like for example natural gas being more expensive than electricity in a lot of places) so this allows you to have an electric dryer when you otherwise probably wouldn't be able to

1. You put in a load and it will both wash and dry the load, meaning you can set and forget until you come back to take it out. You can't do that with separate washer and dryer.
2. It's ventless, so you're not taking conditioned air from your house, heating it and dumping it outside, through a vent that frequently clogs with lint and can be a fire hazard.
3. The dryer function is powered by a heat pump, which heats the air inside, runs it over the load to capture moisture, then cools that air to wring the moisture out of it, sending it to the laundry drain. This is simply moving heat around instead of generating it using electric resistance heating, so your laundry room doesn't heat up as much as it would with a typical dryer. And as you said, since it's moving heat instead of generating it, it uses a lot less electricity than an old-style electric dryer.
4. It has automatic detergent and fabric softener dispensers, which if used mean that you can't possibly kill the machine by putting in too much detergent. There are many videos on UA-cam talking about people destroying their HE washers by using too much detergent. BTW I use the fabric softener dispenser to dispense laundry sanitizer. You should never actually use fabric softener, because it's nasty and causes problems with washers.

Worked with a GE engineer when washers/dryers/stoves sold to Chinese company. The first thing they did was determine how many extra screws were used in the construction. He was asked why the washing machine tub was made of thicker metal. His answer was "so that it would last". The tubs were made thinner. Current GE appliances are not made by GE, they sold a lot when their finance arm went belly up. The problem with current GE appliances is that they have a design life of 5-7 years. That way you have to buy more over time.

I’ve seen bicycle driven washers that have plans online. At one point, just for fun, I decided to try and design a dog powered washer. That worked out pretty well. Then I moved. 😊 I happen to like hanging laundry, so I didn’t mess with that part. I guess that’s my kink. 😂

I have the exact same model, & I love it. Clean the lint out every time you load it for more efficient drying. I use a lint brush, which collects it up in a wad. Lots of pet hair in there. Also, lint will accumulate in the big door gasket. Just run your finger around inside the big groove occasionally to get the bits out. I was so happy to get rid of the big vent tube which kept coming loose all the time. I live by myself, so I do a load of wash every 3 days or so. I think your animals are delightful, and so well behaved. You’ve done a good job with them.
That's pretty snazy. I wear the same outfit every day (tee shirt, jeans) and have 7 changes. I bought a $100 useded automatic clothes washer back in the day and dry on a clothes line. Been doin that for nearly 14 years now. Works like a champ. Pittance well spent. 😂
BTW - I homestead alone, so there's nobody to complain about not having a lot of on-grid niceties. Just got one person to please, me.
I like the older machines better than the new ones. I bought a new front loader washer and dryer set and hated it , it was a fight to keep the washer from being stinky . After the washer broke for the second time ,I trashed the washer and gave away the dryer. I then bought a used set which I really like.

I love mine! Just remember to clean the drain filter at the bottom of the unit roughly every 1-2 months or when the unit prompts you. 👍
When I was a young, I helped my grandmother do her laundry. You had to put your own hot/cold water in using a thing that hooked on to the bathtub faucet and in a big open drum with no lid it would wash. My job was to catch the clothes after she had run them through a powered mangle and put them in a basket on the floor. (There was the possibility of getting your fingers pinched between the two rollers) it was possible to crack buttons into bits between those rollers.😊
We have a washer/dryer combo very similar to that in our 5th wheel. We didn't like it at first when it was not vented. It took hours and hours to dry. But the We vented it and it is a night and day difference. Venting it literally took like 3 hours off dry time.
We experienced that super wrinkly problem. Found a 6 pack of wool washer/dryer balls. Took that problem away.

There is nothing to vent on these because they are based on a heatpump. The whole system is based on recerculating air, there is no connection on the back.
@Diogenes76 mine I my rv is same. But it is ventable if you take a and switch around a few things. Mine is different brand that might be why we were able to do so.

@Diogenes76 I know with ours. It made the room about 300% humidity and hot as he'll. Literally took 3-4 hours to dry. Vented it takes 50min-1½hrs not extra heat or humidity in camper. Worked well for us. I was going to have to buy a stack foe my camper if it didn't work.
You almost certainly did not have a heat pump dryer, because venting a heat pump dryer would not only spoil its function, it would cause it to work harder and use more electricity.
One of the interesting caveats of a washer/dryer combo is that you can wash more than you can dry is where it can get you in trouble with long drying times. Conventional separate washer dryer setup is that the dryer drum is larger than the washer due to the much needed space to fluff up the clothes as it dries.
On my combo unit, I can wash between 2 to 15 lbs of clothing, but only 2 to 10 in combo mode. So, I just got in a habit to weigh out my clothes so I can stay within the recommended limits and it works perfectly fine. I normally line dry my clothes, but the dryer feature is great for those humid and wet days.
Don't forget to check and clean the pump filter at least once a month to make sure no coins, miscellaneous hardware, etc. will eventually make its way there and clogging it.

@@rking8416 depends on the make and model. Mine is hidden behind a cover on the bottom front. I just put a baking sheet to catch any residual water when I remove the lint/debris screen plug.
These type of machines started overseas where living spaces are smaller, families are smaller, and people own fewer clothes. You need to commit to having laundry running 24/7 if you have more than two people. They do clean and dry just fine but like with anything you are unfamiliar with you need to learn new ways. But you would be very thankful to have one if you only had a tiny spot in your kitchen for a machine and a balcony clothesline. My British mother in law was using one of these back in the late 60’s.
Nah, there are three people in our house and we do 4-5 loads a week. On Saturday we do two loads, and loads other days. You can put the load in in the morning and take it out when you come home, it will be dry and ready. But by replacing two units, I reclaimed space in my laundry room that I used to install cabinets to add more storage.
I have one and I really like it and the way it performs it duty. Very impressive

I’ve had one from a different company and it was a lot to get used to, but we adjusted and I’m thrilled with it now. I even had one installed in my master bedroom closet because I have mobility issues. Tapped into the shower water and drain that was right beside the closet. Perfection!
This is amazing when you have 1 or 2 ppl living in the home. A home with a full family would probably need to different choice. I think it's an awesome setup for you both. Glad you're enjoying it, so far. I usually am a bush watcher and don't chat. I'm so intrigued with your lifestyle because growing up my dad raised my younger brothers and I, with mom, in an off grid lifestyle, but we lived less than 20 mins from any store you can think of. LOL
German here. Condensing and Heat Pump driers have been the norm here for 30 and 10 years respectively. Bigger families just run the washing machine daily for one or two loads and a few more on the weekends. Never had anyone complain their drier takes an hour per load and the washer usually is about 2-2.5h. It's just a matter of beeing used to it.
What some people are doing is replacing a washer and a dryer with two of these units side-by-side, allowing them to run two loads simultaneously.
@@tschuuuls486 This sounds suspicious, over here a normal dryer can still take multiple hours but the washer usually only takes about an hour. Also I thought most Europeans used clothes lines still? it makes sense that your heat pump driers would be faster than ours because you guys use 240v power not 110v but that much faster seems far fetched.(our regular driers run on 220v so you wouldn't expect much of a difference there. our power system is weird.) And the washer taking 2+ hours is also weird. That's why you may of seen some American homes shown to have 3 machines, larger families will run a 2nd dryer to make up for the bottle neck.
Lake Mead said if you do all your laundry on the weekend and you have to do about 6 loads a day, this machine is not for you. But if you're able to adapt to doing a load a day or whatever other system works for you then the system would be perfect because these systems don't draw enough power to be a concern of when things go wrong fire starting, so you could absolutely put your clothes in there before work hit the start button and then when you get home from work your clothes are done (because it's a washer dryer combo)

Thanks for doing a review of this, I was curious about combo stuff because our washer is out. The price tag is out of our budget range though, whew!!
The sad part is there's really no reason for this to be as expensive as it is, fundamentally this is a washing machine with a window AC unit and a slightly smarter logic board to accommodate drying with a window AC unit, whereas a normal washer just has to worry about washing. I would expect a reasonable market cost of a product like this to be more in the realms of 25-50%, more than an equally speced washer and a reasonably priced window AC unit combined, not several times the price of those two items combined like these things are right now
LG makes a similar combo unit, which is smaller but you can find at places like Home Depot now for $2k or less.
It reminds me of the units full time sailboat cruisers have aboard their yachts. They're smaller so they have to do laundry more often like you do with this unit.

The condensing coils also need to clean every ounce

I bought a combo in 2002 that lasted 13 years and its replacement is still working. Your review is spot-on, it exactly reflects what I've learned about these machines. When the weather's nice I hang my clothes outside and skip the dry cycle.

I got one of those in November. I love it. No need for a hole in the wall. That soft dry keeps issue of static electricity to a minimum. I clean my filter every time because my dogs shed a lot. It uses less water too than a typical top loader so it is easy on the septic system. The label on it said it used $12 per year in electricity. It does shake our old house for a bit on spin cycle. It is so big it makes my bathroom feel crowded, but I don’t have to go to the laundromat a big win.

This is one of those products I’ve always had an interest in but haven’t really researched. This is a very helpful review and I’ll definitely be sharing it with people I know who are also looking into homesteading.
I’ve been eyeing this for some months now. I’m moving to Cincinnati soon and so many of the houses have their laundry in the basement. I said NO! With this you don’t have to vent to the outside and that’s a game changer to have the unit on your same living level.

We have this washer and we use a vacuum to clean the filter and we have a lint lizard attachment and clean inside the filter area every wash. It's a pain but it works.

We've got a much older LG all-in-one unit, and it's lasted well over a decade now. The pump had to be replaced at one point, which was almost a pretty easy DIY job, but otherwise it's been flawless. We don't use the drying function fully; after the clothes have been spun about 50% dry, we take them out and hang them up, and they dry in a couple of hours indoors, year-round, no problem. The drying rack we use for stuff that shouldn't be hung up has the footprint of a dryer but folds away most of the time, so it's a big win.
Two notes! First, a lot of modern washers and dryers have circuit boards that are not protected at all from humidity and dust and lint. This is a frequent point of early failure. The boards can be replaced, but you can also often open the machine and just put a partial plastic shroud (made from a soda bottle or whatever) around the board. Some machines are easy to open, and this is a half-hour DIY project, and some are a pain. UA-cam will know.
Two, front loaders need that door gasket cleaned periodically, or rather the gap around it. You can pretty much do it with your finger, on most of them. If you don't, on most units lint will build up around the edge of the drum, eventually causing friction that will make the machine less efficient and possibly eventually burn out a belt or the motor or so on. Every month or two may be plenty often to clean it.

I just found this video and this is revolutionary I never knew a washer and dry combined in one machine now I need to know where to buy this for my small house as I can only fit my washer in one room and have to air dry my clothes or take them to the laundromat to dry I glad I found this video
We have had one of these for 6 months. At first I didn’t like it because the clothes felt so damp at the end of the drying cycle, but I soon learned that it was a temporary problem.
I do hate to sort and put away clothes immediately after drying them, but I have learned that clothes get very wrinkled if you don’t put them away shortly after taking them out of the machine. Sometimes I can let them wait a little longer by fluffing them up a scattering them across the top of the bed until I have more time to fold and/or hang them.
In summary I actually like this machine better than the old washer and dryer that we used to have, but it takes some getting used to!
Very cool. Keep an eye on the condenser coils and consider modifying the lint filter to trap more lint (search on YT for many ways to do this).
Good video, like the review. The one thing that I’ve heard about those machines is, the filters have to be cleaned after each use or it will elevate the drying times significantly.
I am currently contemplating purchasing one, but I am not sure if I can adjust my living style to it.

Update on 2 GE Profile Combo Units... as of today, approximately 50 to 60 loads have been run in each unit with 0 buildup of "anything" on the Coil / Condenser!
The modified filters have 0 issues.
I vacuum the filters minimum once a week or when the machine notifies to do it. Once a week for me is laundry for 5 people across both machines.
I continue to post videos of the modified filters during the cleaning process and inspect the modifications, and they are holding up Excellent.
I will be putting together kits to be sold for the people that do not want to source the items and make everything fit on their own. I will prepare pre-done Kits of everything that is needed with simple instructions to follow that will take no more than 5 to 10 Minutes to complete.
Kits as of now will start at $35- + Shipping. Includes pre-cut weather stripping for Top and Bottom, Weather stripping for the Rear, and a choice of upgraded Filter Pad. Electrostatic style or Merv 8 Style Media is white color on entry side, and (tacky) surface on exit side. The tacky surface stops the finer particles from passing through the filter. The pads are washable, however as of 2 months on them, vacuuming is working just fine.
For the best protection, you can just replace them every 4 to 6 months also. The tacky surface will collect the finest of lint and keep it out of the coil without causing restriction of airflow. The primary screen is the biggest area that needs to be kept clean.
Latest addition to the Filter also includes Plastic hold down washers to keep the pad centered and locked in place so no gaps can occur in the housing.
I spent a lot of time and money to make this bullet proof, and it keeps my OCD in check LOL.
Contrary to what end users believe, if you do not modify the filter, cleaning it after every load will actually cause more problems. The reason for this is lint is getting on or past the upper and lower rail assembly and working its way past the filter. Every time you pull out the filter, clumps of lint will get by or shoved to the rear of the assembly which cannot easily be seen or cleaned.
You would think that GE knew of these problems with the leaky filter and fixed them either before launching the unit or shortly thereafter. But they haven't. Until they do I will wait before considering this unit. Congrats on your fix-it kits to the filter problem.
@@DrRussPhd You just need to vacuum the interior of the slot the filter fits in once every 2-3 months or 100 or so loads, to knock down any buildup of lint in the corners. If you don't have a crevice tool for your vacuum you may need to buy an attachment.
Just did a class on this exact appliance for servicing. If they offer extended warranty, I’d strongly suggest it. Because if that heat pump assembly goes out, It’s expensive. Spend a little extra money to cover your butt. Highly suggest. Because a lot of technicians are not going to be thrilled working on this because it is a pain to take apart and repair.
But! If you care for it, clean the lint filter, clean the drain filter routinely (monthly for me), you should be okay. That being said, appliances break all the time no matter the brand.
I do like you don’t need a vent, it’s great for small quarters, and it gives me codes when I need to diagnose it. So overall, not too bad from what I’ve seen so far. Ask me in a year or 2 and see if my opinion is the same. Hope this helps people who might be curious.
I have the same machine for over 6 months now with 2 toddlers and I love it. The only reason why laundry might seem like it takes longer is because you are using only 1 machine, so you can't start another wash load when the switching to dry. But with it being able to wash and dry more clothes at one time, including King size comforters (which cost me $60 to do at the Laundromat) I find it truly to be time saving, easier, and not to mention 800 rebate from Uncle Sam because it's a heat pump!

This would really be a great machine for a single person or a couple! There are still a lot of people going to laundromats and I could see them changing their habits of lugging tons of laundry and spending a whole day washing and drying clothes.
I love that it uses a regular plug. I used to have a dryer like that, it was an apartment size washer and dryer.
It's also nice not to have regular dryer venting. This is a nice set for all kinds of situations!

Dryers should generally only be used due to weather restrictions that make it unworkeable to air/sun dry; love that you're promoting this principle as dryers are overused when not necessary

This would be useful to put a load in at night to run and wake up to dry clothes (may have to wrinkle remove, but it is fine). The power companies want you to do tasks like washing clothes in off peak hours and have priced the off peak hours accordingly.
I don't have one of those but I would find it very helpful. I like that it is ductless yet still dries clothes. I live in a trailer and currently have a smallish washer and no dryer. I don't mind hanging clothing to dry but that isn't always easily done here.

1:52 Try moistening your fingertips before removing lint from the filter. Makes it a lot easier to start removing, particularly if there's a low volume of lint. The drawback is that some lint will stick to your moistened fingertips. Rubbing the ball of lint will remove that too.

Nate ever thought about adding a decent sizes 2 part lake with a water wheel generator between so when it rains or after snow thaw you get some extra power year round
I've been thinking about an all-in-one washer/dryer for a while now, but it would have to be one with a traditional heating element instead of a heat pump, and it would probably be nice to have two of them so I can run 2 loads at once (like you can with a separate washer and dryer). Being able to both wash and dry without having to change it over would make things so much easier. I often forget that I have wet laundry, so I keep having to rewash it just in case there was mildew growth.

I’m a bigger guy so it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve done but if your laundry room is hard to get to or has a lot of stairs I recommend to have someone else there to help you!

if you will clean the dryer with each wash, it will dry more quickly. leaving the lint blocks the air flow, and the lint collects moisture and then you have to dry the lint again. They use this type of washer all over Europe and in the larger RV's.
I recently got solar at my normal style house and a normal boring suburb. And I've been looking into heat pump dryers and seeing this runoff of 110 and do both, I'm intrigued. Thank you for this review. The price is a bit steep. I will admit but considering all the features it has and that it is a heat pump could be worth it when I have the extra cash.

In India we call these fully automatic front load washing machine,
(Top load if door is at top)
These mostly work on water pressure, so with good water pressure it will fill up fast and work more faster,
Low water pressure can easily increase time from 1h to 1h 30min or 2h
I currently have the same machine that Nate had in the camper. It works great, but I haul a LOT of water to do laundry. Seems like an upgrade from that!
I've watched about a dozen appliance repair shop reviews and most of them like it because a majority of the parts are already available since it uses parts from current machines on the market. They also say its easy to maintain but like you said, people will need to change some habits. Personally I would love to get one as soon as I build out a box truck conversion.
As a european it's very unusual to even see a machine that is not designed to fit under a typical 80cm high board. Even freestanding machine are not so big. Interesting to see such a machine.
Washer dryers are normal here. As a homesteader I chuck a load in at night, wake up & put it away clean & dry
I used a wooden drying rack by the wood stove electric dryer in spring and outside in summer. I try to avoid expensive high tech stuff.
So straightforward. Love it. I want one of these

You can use the lint for fire starter
As a appliance repair man this unit is ok as long as you only expect it to last through the 5 year sealed system remember its a refridgerator washer dryer combo and that system will be super expensive to repair a refridgerant leak
You will want to put some extra seal around the lint filter to prevent lint getting past it. There’s a YT video on it.
As a single guy this is exactly the sort of review I wanted to hear. Based on what you said, if I treat it like the dirty clothes hamper, start it when full, I'll never have issues.
