      Cyril I loved Thunderdome. Mind you that might be from having an awesome day. I got to go to Chuck E Cheese in the morning, then the afternoon Matinee to see Temple of Doom, and after a quick burger at a Mr. Mikes we went to see Thunderdome. Could be the nostalgia. man that was an awesome day. Makes me wish I was 10 again.

    The first thing you'll notice about Fury Road is the art direction and costume design. Maybe some of the best I've ever seen. The world created by George Miller is visually stunning. It's essentially everything he wanted to create in Road Warrior but didn't have the capability to at that time. The vehicles are inventively designed and everything has that WOW factor. All of the characters look fantastic and each one appears as though there's some kind of story behind them.
    Fantastic movie.

    Just saw it for the 2nd time this weekend. Best movie I've seen in like 10 years. Everything was perfect. Including the feminist themes although I don't think it was purposeful feminism. Just that the female characters were very capable as they are in real life. I'm always a fan of horrible men getting destroyed by women.

    As I said before, I'll say again. Feminists are claiming this movie in their name. They are claiming victory for the Furiosa character, the scene where the phrase "women are not things" is displayed, and they are the reasons people have lashed out back at the movie for feminist propaganda. Coupled with the fact that too many industries are allowing themselves to be dictated to by identity politics and ideologies, people are jaded and thinking that every strong female character, or change of an iconic character, has an agenda's backing behind it and not legitimate artistic vision. PowerGirl was changed to look identical to Bumblebee from Teen Titans. Why? Because "progress." Joker variant cover was pulled after feminist backlash. Why? Because progress. All of this adds up and people are getting tired of so-called "progress" taking what's already established and changing it, or claiming victory for things they had no part in, rather than actually doing something creative on their own and being the change they claim is necessary.

    • @UndeadTurning

      NorthernDragon There's a simple truth. Feminists control the media. And there's always a few idiots who believe everything they read off of the internet. You want to rake in the simple minded plebs? Pander to feminists. It's another case of 'follow the money'.

    • @Northwite
      @Northwite 9 років тому +8

      Well the funny thing is that there are scenes where the girls (including Furiosa) are stuck in the truck's cabinet while Max and his War Boy buddy (I forgot his name) are fighting to protect them. Also there is a scene where Max goes by himself to defeat a full APC in the midst of the night , under the astonished gaze of Furiosa who advised him to not go in there...

    movie was practically a 2 hour action packed car chase, and it was awesome

  • @darkblood626
    @darkblood626 9 років тому +20

    Why do people think this is feminist propaganda?... well, there's this thing called subtext. The protagonists are a group of woman, leaving the protagonist of the old movies (who is the franchises very name sake) to take a secondary role. The back story is the world was fucked up by men being men and all the antagonists are all 2 dimensional examples of overly 'macho' men, riding round on their overly tricked out cars to be killed indiscriminately by a group of 'righteous' woman who set out to free themselves from the oppression of their patriarchal masters...

    • @Aeradom2000
      @Aeradom2000 9 років тому +2

      darkblood626 Couldn't of put it better myself. Once I heard the feminist suggestion and then watched the movie, I kind of see where they are getting at. That being said though, Max is still one of the good guys, and even the one War Boy turns out to have a heart so it wasn't like the movie painted every male negatively. Beyond that, it just seems like natural evolution of the world, that men would start in charge and then the women would fight back. It's a basic oppressed people uprising story, more so anti-male I think.

    God dammit none of this has to do with real world feminism. Feminism is for women to be equal to men. In fiction the lore of the world matters. So the fact that women are property in mad max doesn't mean it is anti feminist in the real world. It's just how that fictional world is.

    • @Menuki

      The truth is that the film maker and the marketing department are totally different entities.
      Will guys see this movie? No doubt, the name alone is enough to get asses in seats.
      Will women see this movie? That takes work. Through the magic of editing a trailer comes of very different than the film. Suddenly, you have a viable candidate for a date night.

    • @TheGogogogogogo
      @TheGogogogogogo 8 років тому +6

      Also Furiosa is a strong female character, so Feminists should actually really like this movie because it shows how strong women and men are.It also isn't force fed feminism like in Ghostbusters.

    • @Menuki
      @Menuki 8 років тому +1

      Hugo Strange well, that's thanks to to having a Director that respects the source material. SOmeone who is thinking about a character and not sending a message.
      Furiosa was equal, because she could act on her own, but being human, still needed help occasionally. The film never draws attention to her gender, but gives her strength through world building. Women in this world are slaves, but by not directly telling us how she transcended this and allowing us to fill it in ourselves, we create a bigger badass.
      GB and Feig tried too hard reinforce that their strength is because men are weak or incompetent. They emulate male behavior to make them equal to men. Queef jokes and crotch shots. If it was made with 4 guys, (even original cast) it would be stupid and offensive. Having four women doesn't get it a pass

You can gather your buddies together and plan to head to an AMC Prime theater near you and stay at a hotel, go out for a drink, club, arcades, whatever afterwards. To me the only bad thing about this movie is that Max doesn't do much, he doesn't even feel like the protagonist. Maybe it was intentional, I mean he's a survivor, and maybe the idea is that he just goes around trying to survive, meet all these characters and then moves on, so the protagonist is aupposed to be the world itself more than Max, and the original ones were kinda like that, but he almost doesn't do anything in this movie.

      KombatGod If you think about it, though, he wasn't the guy who did everything even in Road Warrior. The movie was more about the villagers than it was him - it's just that he was their vehicle to fight back against Humongous.

      I know that, guys, I also said so myself, but in this one it seems to me that he didn't even do anything. The movie could have worked perfectly without even having him, he basically doesn't have a role, except being a blood bag (even when he saves her at the end).

      KrossoverGod The thing is mad max isn't a protagonist in the true sense. In the first one he was because that was your backstory. The last three everyone needs to realize aren't in any chronological order. This movie is simply exploring the universe and Max is simply your vessel to take a trip into it.

    _Fury Road_ has *fantastic* action sequences, but..barely any story or characterisation. (I'd make a joke about how it has less characterisation than a certain hated trilogy, but..maybe not)
    Go watch it, even if you (like me) haven't seen previous _Mad Max_ movies. It's that good, just don't expect a "masterpiece" cos it has the same problems most action movies have (tons of action, almost zero story).

      Andi X Personally, action only feels meaningful or memorable when you actually _care_ about the characters. Put 10 random guys in a room, fighting each other, and after 10 minutes it gets boring, no matter how good the action may be.
      This movie didn't give me a chance to breathe let alone get to know & care for its characters. By the end, I couldn't care less who died.

      Paradox Acres The story is subtle and IS maxs story, he however doesn't have character development because he doesn't need it, he is a broken man getting caught up in crazy situations that he is trying to survive.
      no offence but i cant help but feel wasn't meant for you if you didn't like it, having not seen the originals and wanting more than just an action spectacle. Good to hear practical effects are back on the table. Hopefully it does well and maybe pushes that sort of movie making to be bit more popular again. Also Max was never really too much on the spotlight (only in first one), he was usually a tool that the story was told through and it focused on many other people and their lives when Max happened to be around.

    Pros: Fucking crazy action. Amazing for what it was meant to be, an action thrill ride. A very strong secondary character and good enemies. The enemies are silly, but quite intimidating. The mix of silliness and seriousness reminds me of Borderlands and Fallout.
    Cons: Mad Max seemed quite weak as a character and he did not get enough focus. Mad Max felt like a secondary character. The plot was weak. The reasons for doing what they do is not well thought out (and the mission ends up being for nothing). The plot doesn't get good until the end, and it feels like the end should have been the middle of the movie. The conclusion is not even that satisfying anyway.
    6/10 for me. The only satisfying part is the action, but everything else falls short.

    I found a theory about the main character in this movie is that if you have watched the old movie of Mad Max, you would know the Feral Kid. The feral kid walked up to Max and max gave the feral kid the music box, so in this new movie-Mad Max: Fury Road, the main character-Max has the music box in his possession and there is the scene that when Furiosa meet Max and ask his name but it ended up in Max growling, grunting and walked to the water pump. So seeing that has increased the chance of the main character in this present movie-Mad Max: Fury Road is the Feral Kid in the old Mad Max who looks up to Max so later on, he called himself Max. It's not 100% correct but to me, it seems to be correct with all the evidence so, I wonder for others, does this info makes sense to you that you agreed with me or not?

    I didn't really feel like anything really got accomplished in this movie. I haven't seen the other movies, but with it's 98% on Rotten Tomatoes I'm assuming that it would be great if I did; it _definitely_ does not hold up on its own though. The beginning was fantastic, but then the movie just kinda forgets about Max and focuses on these girls that I literally cared nothing for, when I did care for Max. It doesn't elaborate on his mental issues or anything, or develop his character, he's literally a side character _begging_ for development.
    I just ended up shrugging when the credits happened because nothing really happened. I didn't feel like there was any character development, any feeling of growth or accomplishment, anything. It was amazingly made though, and the beginning was fantastic, but other than that I felt like how I did after watching Taken 2.

Then later she turns to mad max and says this battle wagon has 2000 HORSEPOWER. These are only phrases used in my America , because we use this Superior measurings system. She should have said we have 4 million liters of gas, or PETROL, whatever that means and like the band Sabaton, which is german and singing about the German War in World War 1, the hit song is "What is the Price of a MILE???? Should have been what if the price of a kilometer. Just odd things I noticed,

    People will always find reasons to be outraged about absolutely everything. It's part of internet culture, and also Western culture in general these days thanks to the media.

    Damn, I was rooting for it to be a Mad Max film, about Max. Dont care about Furiosa. I can see how some people can be disappointed.

      LastSider Out the 4 movies in the series I think only the first one is actually about Max in the others he is like the introduction to the world and one of the various characters you follow through the movie

    Cast Mel Gibson & Bruce Spence as two of the major villains in a sequel. That would be a total mindfuck of massive proportions.

    I absolutely dont get people calling this a "feminist action film".
    I imagine hardcore feminists would absolutely hate this movie. From Theron easily being dubbed as a "Ms. Male" to all the sexualization of the females. I really feel this is simply a good movie with well written female leads. Sad to think that a movie has to be "feminist" to have strong female characters.

    I had to stop the movie after about an hour because I was so bored with it. It is the same scene all the time. The same fucking road with the same dudes trying to stop a truck for 2 hours. Sure the colors, visuals, costumes, cars, camera angle, pace, craziness etc. are great but the movie feels empty to me. It's like watching the trailer for 2 hours, I don't understand all the fuss about the movie.

    Feminism is not misandry.
    Anyone who thinks men and women should have the same rights and be respected equally is a feminist.
    So I would hope you're all feminists otherwise I guess you think one gender is superior to the other.
    This movie's themes promote the ideas that women and men should be on equal footing.

      Sam Levin If you are saying that men and women are not equal in every way then you should have a serious think to yourself. Equality is progression of humanity, keep thinking like this and the rest of us will leave you behind.

      There a difference between believing in human rights and women rights. I think that women are different from men but they are still human beings and that's why I believe in human rights, not women rights. Feminism is NOT the same as human rights! I know that because I used to believe in feminism, and boy... I felt like a TOTAL idiot! >.

      I liked the movie a lot. Maybe favorite film this year.
      From what I can see in history women are often considered inferior to men, so it makes sense for the feminist movement to be about elevating women to the same level as men.

      I don't really agree with some of what you said, but as long as you want to examine what causes inequality between people and then try to fix those problems then that's good.

    I gave myself a headache with all the nodding I did watching this review, you guys hit it spot on. Still, the tapering off at the end of the film really hurt it, and I'd give it a 7.5 to 8 out of 10.

    I personally think there is a climax when they reach the "green place" the only thing is, you don't know they've reached it (it is night time & looks like a muddy swamp). My personal favorite part of the movie happens during the that scene. Max walks towards the gunfire & approaching car, out of sight. Then a MASSIVE explosion takes place again out of sight behind some clouds or dust followed by the most BADASS explosion walkaway as out of the dust cloud comes max (covered in others blood).
    This part of the movie was the single most badass piece of cinema I've seen in my entire life and served as a wonderful climax about 2/3 - 3/4 of the way in.
