- More than two dozen countries have been evacuating their citizens from Sudan’s capital Khartoum as fighting between two rival armed groups continues.
Most of those being evacuated are diplomats and their families.
France, Spain, Germany and Italy are among the countries still evacuating people. The US, UK and Canada have already flown diplomats out.
Meanwhile Sudan civilians remain trapped in the fighting.

The only reason people go to these fallout troubled places. It is to make money. The first sign of problems they want the British government to get them out. There's been plenty of warnings why didn't they leave when the going was good. Instead of risking soldiers lives

Inflation is self adjusting when folks just can't afford things... It's amazing how many things get added to the list when you don't have the money. As we have an aging society with more and more people on fixed incomes or sitting on retirement funds that are declining in value inflation is painful.

the fighting is from two generals of the country and they was in charge of the country together but have had a disagreement. i'm unsure whom is funding either side hopefully this isn't another proxy conflict.

with the government emergency alert system being tested yesterday in uk this is what the government do in a real emergency the embassy staff that are there to help their country's nationals in a emergency have gone left the people behind that they are meant to help

Any foreigner who is still in Sudan has been warned for weeks and months to not come to Sudan and to leave Sudan if they are already there…

During the colonial period Sudan it was devided in to two for the sole perpous of exploitation.(1899-1956)
The British separated the predominantly Muslim and Arabic-speaking northern part from the multi-religious, multi-ethnic, and multilingual south on the basis of convenience.
At the time British thought that the occupation of Sudan was nessasary to the dominance of Nile river. During the colonial rule, Sudanese people were taken advantage of by "yours truly" in the usual atrocious manner the empire is associated with.
The colonisers dismantled the local governing body, defences, law and enforcement, education and healthcare systems. The exploration of human and natural resources brought poverty and the power vacuum has created warlords.
Today we see the devastating results a
not just in Sudan but in the whole region.
Al Jazeera has much better reporting and insight on this conflict. In Khartoum, the RSF is now trapped in the civilian housing area. They lack food and water, so they take it from householders. They also lack fuel for their trucks.

I don't live in Sudan, never have done, to be honest I never felt the need after Gordon and that horrific affair "this was French nationals" gives me little hope for any bugger what is stuck there, British or bleedin' not. To reiterate my point, I don't live in Sudan. Normally I'd put an exclaimaton mark there but I didn't this time, out of respect for the British that live in Sudan.

My sister is British, she’s still stuck there with her kids and husband. She lives in Bahri making it unsafe to cross the bridge to Omdurman where the private evacuation buses are operated! Why can’t the UK evacuate their citizens!
I don't think you realise how complicated such effort would be tho... I understand its probably a nightmare, but trying to evacuate in my mind holds just as high a risk as if normal British civilians were to stay, in that sense a no win situation which needs to be planned carefully and quickly. I don't think it's as simple as you make it out to be.
It is in her interest to join European expatriates as soon as possible.
France, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy... are not only evacuating their diplomats, they are also evacuating ordinary citizens of other countries. The French airlift to the French base in Djibouti has already evacuated 400 people since yesterday, Europeans (including British), North Americans, Asians and Africans.)

Because fighter jets are flying around Khartoum and firing on RSF positions, so RSF fighters may be looking to shoot down anything in the sky. Every extra plane is another potential disaster.
