Starting out with a Tormek T8 -what is the first accessory I would add for knife sharpening

Nice honest opinion 👍 I have a Tormek T8 coming and the next order is going to be the rotating base, the machine cover and the MB-102 Multibase, which is the part you are talking about. Yes, it's purely for home use and the extended family. I already have the "Edge Pro" Professional Kit that I have been using for around 10 years now. It is an excellent product which will give you razor sharp edges to splitting hair if that is what you desire. It's only downfall is that if the knife edge is badly damaged then it takes a large amount of labour/time and stone material to get them back profiled. It also can't really do bigger items like axes/mower blades etc.
Also the honing strop on the Tormek T8 will come really handy as its easy to give the knifes a quick touch up with the honing wheel.

Thank you for sharing. I agree stropping very important. With my Worksharp Elite Knife Sharpening System, I have 3 leather belts, where I have green compound on one belt and red compound on other belt, it allowed me to get high end single bevel to sharpness level of 95g on BESS C certified scale. I am on wait list for black paste finer micron level. When I returned knife to my work colleague comment back was knife was wicked sharp. With what you shared I now now which accessories to get first when I purchase Tormek T8.

I agree the FVB is a must have. As far as first ... I'd agree, unless one is sharpening a lot of wear-resistant steels, in which case I'd start off with the CBN or diamond wheels.

Excellent video based on practical experience. I now understand why Dr. Vadim was so meticulous and precise in his measurements both for sharpening and honing. He also possessed an inquisitive mind to enhance the sharpening ability of the Tormek products.
Did he not in one of his videos suggest the honing angle be slightly different from the sharpening angle to completely remove the burr?
Again, thank you for this informative video. And, my apologies for a previous comment made as I was stunned by Dr Vadims' usual focus of sharpening with the Tormek system to one of high speed commercial grinders and buffers. The end result is the same, only the method is different.

Thanks very much - great to hear that some things are useful… One never knows who’s listening or what the reaction is when speaking to a UA-cam camera. By software I mean the calculators that can help to determine the support bar height for exact angle determination. I find it a very useful addition to the tormek, especially for precise-angle honing.
Glad you Japanese wheel sharpening is going well. Mine is quite underutilised but hoping to find a purpose for it in an upcoming video. Thanks for tuning in!

Thanks for watching… Bought from Schliefjunkies in Germany, but for a long time I just used a piece of cut off plastic pipe, so there are DIY options that work as well.

I have experienced a nasty stone grab and am looking for information if I can sharpen edge trailing on the Tormek. Using CBN 400 and 1000, also any idea about a 10" leather wheel instead of changing the rest angle.

I have question about Tormek T-8, would it work with power generator, and would it be portable in SUV or van? What I am thinking of doing a a mobile sharpening services for Butcher shops, and restaurants. I am wondering if T-8 would be able to do this or for mobile service would I be better off using Worksharp elite sharpening system for mobile service. I have firm belts, regular belts and leather belts for the blade grinding. I have two so I don’t overheat if I an doing lots of sharpening. But I also plan to get Tormek T-8 next year, a local supplier has given me a customer number so I can order front accessory when I order the Tormek T-8.

Tormek would certainly be compatible with a generator - I did some sharpening tonight with my T8 connected to a power meter and the max watts draw was 94 (at 245V). But for sheer portability and also speed of sharpening, I think I would go for the Worksharp Elite for a mobile sharpening service.. The Tormek is heavier, and also needs water which could be a hassle. The Worksharp draws a bit more power, but still only about 200W, so easily compatible with a generator.

So why don't you put the bar in as Tormek describes it in the manual? The only difference to this is where on the wheel you are grinding.

Thank you, and from memory I thought I had included more side angle views, but you are right that they are lacking a bit.
It seems to be a thing within sharpening videos to often just focus on the gear so I’ve never shown my face. Although I have heard that my reflection can be seen in some clips ;)
