I am not a Kingdom Hearts player, but this character makes so many people happy that I can' help but celebrate it.
I was a kid when kh1 released. I still have my ps2 copy of the game. This is so unbelievably hype for me. I can't imagine how many contracts, deals, people were involved in just getting the licensing. Much less developing the character.
Like seriously. I've seen people ask for him literally since before brawl, and he's been one of the most prominent asks so I can't even be mad. There are SO many people for SO long that have waited for this hahaha
@@bighex5340 to this day kh is my favorite game ever. With monster hunter 4 and bloodborne being shortly behind this. Having two of those games being represented and one as an actual character? Never in my dreams did I think that would happen.
Thank You! I was on VC with someone who was PISSED that it was Sora because he never cared for KH but it like come on! You have to admit Sora is the most influential characters in Gaming history! I fell of the series due to its insane amount of in-between games but it's still Kingdom freaking HEARTS!

Okay so funny thing, the guys in my choir class convinced our choir teacher to let us watch the direct during class (keep in mind this was advanced high school choir, and we have a concert in a week), and so a little after 10:00 we all were chilling on our risers, watching intently, completely enthralled. Mario grabs at the fire. The sword appears. He throws it in the air...
And the entire fine arts wing hears as we go completely apeshit.

What I love about this trailer is that it's set up to fit for literally any character to ever exist.
Nothing in the trailer suggested any specific character up until the Keyblade appeared, so the Keyblade scene and every scene after could've been changed to fit any character that they wanted, completely concealing the character's identity until they show up.
Imagine them intentionally leaking the first bit of the trailer to the leakers and they're just like "Do You Have the Slightest Idea How Little That Narrows It Down?" xD
I thought it was a dark souls reference. the single flame imagery and it looked like Mario was linking the first flame in dark souls
Man whoever wrote the scripting for this trailer shoulda been the one to do all the other trailers. Keep it hint free untill the climax reveal moment. That is how you reveal something MASSIVE!

I know everyone hates counters on sword fighter but Guard is probably the most important ability in KH so I give it a huge pass here
Every sword user in the game that has a counter should get a pass. It makes sense for all of them
If anything some of them should be changed to frontal counters like this one is
I never wanted Sora but many people seemed to be really excited, so I'm glad a large portion of the community got what they wanted. That's great!

22:07 I think competitive should have more stages legalized, but include similar layouts in the same groups when it comes to bans in counterpicks. So Smashville and this stage could be used, but would only count as one ban in tournament. Similarly, Northern Cave and Kalos would be grouped, perhaps Lylat and Yoshi’s, etc. this would allow for more small variability but keeping the overall competitive nature not too complicated by allowing “too many bans because there’s too many stages”.
This stage is actually a mix of final destination and smashville. It has smashvilles platform, but the actual stage is the size of final destination
I was saying this since smash 4 days. They need to start grouping some stage as one so my ban don’t feel wasted. I ban battlefield and they take me to dreamland and vice versa. So annoying. We did it at my local scene and it was amazing, but it wasn’t universal
Or go to the hazards on route lol, I think there are enough legal stages now on there for it be viable
Imagine the stage switches at final stock and then whoever's behind gets 0-deathed before the stage can finish transitioning.

It's not actually a SmashVille clone though. The middle platform is smaller, and the stage itself might be bigger too. With this smaller middle platform, it's be easier to cover up tech options on it, and it's be harder to "camp" with it to force an approach. Especially with that last part in mind, I find it healthier for the competitive scene.

Small note on everything you're complaining about, minus the weight, they're all characteristics of the character in the game.
Counter is an ability that is utilized quite a bit in the game.
If you're locked onto an enemy that's in the air, the aerial sweep ability lets you attack them without jumping first and usually acts as the first attack of a neutral attack.
All of the flashy moves you see? They're mostly like that in the game.
Even his dash attack is like the air slide he has in DDD.
In all fairness, I'd argue that in Kingdom Hearts it's less of a counter and more like acting out of shield. Definitely makes sense to do, but I don't think it's a 1-to-1 example.
I just think that a key-blade swapping move would have been DLC worthy
@@TheSwordSmasher It sort of works similarly because you can use it to break or stun enemy attacks which leaves them open for combos yourself. It's not one to one for sure, but in a way the function is basically the same. I'm sort of surprised they didn't use barrier, but I guess he already has a shield.
@@YourMom-wi5to Yeah but the problem is, if you give Sora that, he becomes a "DLC" character and even more bitching ensues. But keep him simple (and clean hah), and we get complaints anyway.

10:26 how they program this is by using the input buffer. You have an array of inputs received over a fixed number of frames, each frame you iterate through your array adding any new inputs and removing inputs currently being processed. Because of the buffer they're able to look ahead at incoming input and can determine if the move will be 1 2 or 3 hits

Just so you know: Yes, Sora can cancel his side b, and he can also cancel all of his aerials. Also, he has a weight value of 85, making him the same weight as zelda, so he is light but not as light as you might think. His moves may not be the fastest, but the hitboxes linger for a while and have great angles so it evens out. I’d probably put him in high tier.
That was one of the best reveals ever!! But sephiroth is still top 1

Holy shit, wow! I predicted Sora to be the most likely. I wanted Leon S. Kennedy or Tetrimino more but this is PERFECTION. The reveal was too and end trailer was so good. Best pick as the last character. Some didn’t think it could happen and after Sephiroth it seemed less likely. I’m not even a Kingdom Heart fan and I got chills and almost teary eyed. Sad to have an end to an era of announcements and reactions, but it’s been long and finally Sakurai is done with it. I can’t imagen how amazing it felt for fans. Great Mii costumes and stage too, stage should be legal even with the transformation. Haha crazy to have the silhouette of Mickey in Smash. Sakurai did it, thank you Sakurai-sama!

I recently read up somewhere that the smash ballot results was that Sora was the #1 most wanted in US and Europe and #2 in Japan losing to Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia
We will never get a game like this again! You can clearly see that they care about consumers being happy! It was never about the money! Sakurai and company made history!
Technically there is nothing Disney related at all with Sora other than the fact that he was in Kingdom Hearts with Disney characters. As far as Smash goes, there are no Disney characters in the background, in his final Smash or spirits. So really hes just a Square Enix character from a game Disney characters were featured. I'm sure Disney never would have let them have the other characters in Smash unless Sakurai was willing to pay his soul for it.
Except Sora is DISNEY! Sora is 100% owned by Disney!

What if Eggman was the last DLC?
To start Sonic was the one of the first DLC that made it hype & very possible for any 3rd party Characters to be a part of Smash.
It would have been the Perfect way to end the DLC by bringing another desperately needed Sonic representative.
Not to mention that it boggles my mind they ditched the idea of upgrading Shadow to a simple echo fighter with slightly different special moves Chaos Control (teleport) & Chaos Spear (Projectile) & skating animation.
But, hey that's just a theory........a Game Theory.

As a KH guy, I agree that a down B counter is kinda boring (even though blocking and countering IS an important part of KH gameplay) also, you might have missed it but you can only use up B and then side B but not side B and then up B
You can only spam the fire but not thunder or blizzard
I'm glad they didn't add a BS comeback mechanic as that is my least favourite addition to smash, specially how much it has been overused, even though again, they could've included one based on the games for example in KH3 when you are low health you can transform into dark form which refills your health and gives you new moves based on combos, thought that in itself is a risk (though other than the costumes this Sora seems to be based 100% on KH1 where this mechanic didn't exist het)
