Hello, I'm a beginner gardener and I'm afraid the eBay sellers saw me coming. I've bought 200 snowdrop bulbs and they're all dry. Am I wasting my time planting them now? I read somewhere that if you soak them overnight that might help? Any hope?
Oh dear . I would still plant them out but they do much better if you plant them in the green. Maybe plant the dry bulbs in a pot and see what comes up. Soaking might help or just plant them in some moist compost in a pot and water them in . It would have similar effect and then leave pot outside where it can get rained on and water it if it looks dry.
@@gardenerscottageblakeney1316 I've done what you suggested and can only hope I get lucky come the spring. At least I know what to buy now come January! I've planted some Puschkinia and Leucojum Aestivum so hopefully will get some delicate white blooms from them if nothing else. Just love snowdrops, though!
@@orlandobennett9247 I planted several pots and planters and most have just produced strappy greenery - lush and tall, but no flowers! But there's one pot that has four little blooms in it and they've been flowering for weeks. Better than nothing I guess! They're so beautiful, it would have been great if they'd all flowered, but I guess I might be able to transplant them all into the ground now and hope they give me a show next year? Fingers crossed.
Such a good idea, I’m going to do this with some old terracotta pots and top them with moss for a little eye level display .
Glad you enjoyed it Jan. Love old terracotta pots with bulbs in
I wish we had some jet. We only have cold snow here. Love to see it. Thank you👍
You're very welcome Marianne
cool.,,! i will try this too,,mbe too late just now tho?,,,any more tips for other species in the wild?,,
We are still doing it. Its a good time of year to propagate most spring bulbs in the UK
It’s mid may I dug up some groups. Some bulbs are large as a walnut and most are tiny. How many will be viable?
Most of them . the large ones may flower next year the smaller ones may just produce green and then flower in a couple of years
Should I repot immediately or store and plant later?
We plant them straight away where we want them to come up. They do not grow well if they are dried out and stored in our experience

I planted snow drops in Sep 2020 and they still are not appearing now!
I was told they would show in 2022 January for first time 😭
Oh what a shame they should have come up by now. Did you plant them as bulbs or in the green
Does anyone have some to sell?
We bought some of ours at local markets and snowdrop festivals
