Your hair isn't light enough to put the red over, it'll go a really weird icky brown/grey colour! I'd say just keep using a clarify shampoo until the blue/green is literally pastal or as close as you can get it, it'll take a while but you can't do much until its out unfortunately! Definitely don't use any peroxide dyes because it'll lift your roots! Unfortunately will going natural the most effective thing is TIME! Be patient and let it go through all the yucky colours and lengths!

Red hair dye is a safe color lifter without bleaching- dye your hair red over the black & it will start lifting as you wash your hair over time. Keep repeating this process till it lifts the color completely. This is how I removed black hair dye and and lightened my hair back to red!

@@kayleeb2310 but she wants to go back to her natural colour, not an artificial colour, so she doesn't want to lift her roots, she wants to match her ends to the roots which is of course ginger so an orange, which won't cover a dark blue/green.

As a ginger who has dyed her hair black and tried to get back to red, no amount of vit C and dandruff shampoo will get you there, and dying your hair red at this stage will only make things worse. I would go for a proffesional dye remover/lifter (not bleach), it should get your hair to light-ish brown, then you can tone copper and it will fade nicely 👌

I agree with what some of the others have said. At this point I dont think more hair dye will get the result you want alex. The only red I can think of that would pick up now is a permanent fire red, but that looks nothing like your natural ginger and idk how it will wash out. A full on color correction would be the ideal but that’s impossible rn. If it was me I’d do as many color removers as I could (color oops, schwarzkopf and guy tang come to mind) and possibly a bleach bath THEN add hair dye to match the regrowth (with slight color correction if needed). Semi permanents wont do much now. Unfortunately to get healthy hair in the long run we need to damage what we have now.

A bleach bath will just damage the hair more, and she's been trying to repair it with olaplex. :/ I say either try more colour removal or just wait for it to grow out and keep getting the ends cut (or just get a buzz cut and start fresh).

I also did the color remover last year. If you follow the instructions 100% (also like washing it under cold water for straight 10 Minutes, etc.) it works perfectly fine. I was astonished, as when the stuff was in my hair for about an hour, I did not see any change first.

    • @courtney8268

I completely agree. I would suggest using Color Oops (being very careful to follow package directions), then deep condition, then dying the regrowth a light ginger. Redying will just lead to the problem becoming worse. I've used color oops many times on my long hair and it just makes it dry for about a week and then it's back to normal after a few conditioning treatments.

Yes and it is good to add, certain color removers do not work on direct dyes such as manic panic / artic Fox Color b4 does not recommend it, but I have used color opps on direct dyes with good results. If you can get to a beauty supply store all the better, they have direct dye removers.

The red dye will turn the green a brownish gray, most likely, and the blue will turn purple. You should try Color Oops, but be sure to watch AKA Aislinn's video on it first, so you know how to not smell like sulfur forever, and so you can get it to be its most effective. She also uses heat with her Vitamin C treatments.

Just a little something she should know before using Color oops: it will change her natural color and she risks hindering her curl pattern. Color oops was damaging to my hair and changed its texture . The other risk is if you decide to use bleach after (even if it’s quite some time after) , it can bring the color you were trying to remove or some other strange color back during the bleaching process.

My friend is also my hair stylist and we've used Malibu DDL (Direct Dye Lifter) on Arctic Fox before and it's worked great! You can mix it with either low vol developer or just water (for a more gentle lift) and it targets the specific pigments of semi-permanent dyes. But definitely avoid putting more color or dye on top of what you have now, as it would just compound the pigments and not actually "cancel" it out, esp if your cuticle is still open from bleach.

To my favorite UA-camr, If you put red dye over your hair currently it won’t turn red, it’ll maybe turn brown or a purple. I suggest you please put a hair color remover like color ops and apply it in fine sections. You should remove as much of the blue as possible because if you put red over it’ll be uneven. Your roots will be bright red and your ends will be purple or brown. Love you Alex I hope you consider it.

Just to let you know (from someone who went from Christmas tree green back to a dark red/fire truck red) red cancels out green in the sense it'll turn your hair brown. So when you are picking colors maybe take a color wheel picture. It is very hard to get back to red but don't be discouraged you will get there! It took me a year to get there after a hair stylist damaged my hair so severely I'm finally back to a 5RV (level 5 red violet) and fire truck red ends. Also look into keracolor shampoo. Or punky shampoo. They have color depositing shampoos that can keep your hair vibrant and help you start getting back to red. (Don't worry that it's super bright it fades more normal after a few washes) tea tree also helps take out color but don't use it on the red since you're trying to keep the red. 💜

Toning conditioners work a treat, too!
I've used various ones over the years to achieve truer colors and shift the undertones of various shades. I'm naturally ash blonde, and used to have my hair highlighted blonde; it always left the blonde a little cold and a nudge green due to the truly dishwater color of my natural hair. I used a bronze toner to warm the blonde up as well as warm my natural color up, and it was absolutely lovely.

I would really highly suggest using Color Oops or something similar. Follow the directions very carefully and it will strip out this color. The box says it's only for permanent color, but I've used it on direct dyes like arctic fox and it's worked very well. Your hair will be dry for a few days, but just deep condition and it will go back to normal. Then you can try dying your hair to match your natural color. Doing things like vitamin C or clarifying shampoo will only get you so far, and your hair isn't nearly light enough to take a red like the one you are going for.

A decade of hair dying my own hair tells me to tell you GOOD LUCK. Any color with a blue undertone is the hardest to remove or color over.
My best suggestion is to do a VERY LIGHT bleaching, just to get the darkest bits to lighten (or a few treatments of professional strength lightener)
Then use a natural ginger/red tone over it, but test it first on a few under strands to see how it reacts.
Anything you do going forward, I'd say test on a few under strands.
Black/blue are very hard to get out. Pinks are the second hardest and you did manage that pretty well, so I think you'll do alright.
    Good luck!

The best thing i've ever used was bleach powder (just the powder, without the developer) + shampoo! You mix 1 part of powder with 2 parts of shampoo and leave it for some time on your hair (i used to leave it for 30 min) and then you rinse. It did wonders for my hair when i was trying to remove the pink colour i was using, maybe you should look that up to see if it works for you!

I'm a natural red head that dyed my hair black for 6 years and how I got back to my natural colour took around 4 months because of the many layers of permanent dye and I didn't want to destroy my hair. Going blonde first and then dying it a shade or so brighter than my natural colour let it fade out to match my roots. Having patience and using repairing products alongside the lightening process is key! The idea of trying to get rid of black in a short period of time scares the heck out of me, but you do you Alex 😅 There are many helpful resources out there!

i dyed my hair black for the last four months and the only thing that helped me to remove it was the mixture of: baking soda, head and shoulders shampoo, 10 or 20 volume developer, and dish soap. I put in on my hair while they are dry and leave it on for 30+ minutes. i used it ones and my hair were already 1/2 shades lighter. Hope this helpes.

I love this cut on you so much. But if you really want to go back to your natural red colour then maybe just buzz it off? You don't need to buzz it completely bald (obviously), just enough to remove the black/blue lengths!

You know it's funny, I don't consider myself as someone who's easily influenced into purchasing sponsored products, any of the other channels I watch on UA-cam or Twitch I can't remember the last time I bought anything they sponsored, but with Alex I know her tastes and preferences match my own so often that just now she literally hadn't even finished talking about the snack box and I had already bought one with her code lmao. I've been happy with every other sponsor she's had that I've tried in the past, so I know I won't be disappointed. Thanks Alex!

I'm a hair stylist and I would not ad more dye what I would do is a colour remover or a super super weak bleach wash which is shampoo and bleach leave it in for like 15 to 20 mins with oil plex then if your left with green which you definitely will be then use a red wash in a demi colour like lvl 7 or 8 and use that to wash the green out unfortunately you maybe left with green tin still in the hair but if you keep using red wash or even a glaze demi wash which will help get rid of the tinned green.

I've had semi-permanent colour stay in my virgin hair permanently and it was red. You're probably gonna need a colour remover to get rid of the black. If you try that, make sure to get the colour remover with sulphur not bleach.

Color oops is supposed to be really great for removing pigment from your hair (But it is smelly). Adding red will definitely turn the blue purple, and the green brownish.

Just bleach wash and dye it dark red, the vitamin c and clarifying is likely more damaging. I know I know you don’t want to damage it further etc but you’re just stripping it anyway 😅

Youre right about the covid cases/salon thing! I didn’t even think of it because I only get my hair cut (takes about 30 mins) and the salon I go to has strict Covid guidelines with masks, cleaning, testing, vaccination, and spacing out clients both physically and the times of their appointments. One of the only salons in my area that does this too!

I really don't recommend adding more color to your hair till you strip/fade the black out. By adding red you're just going to get a dark brown, and I know that's not what you're going for. I'd definitely try some other methods or actual color removers others have mentioned already.

i am SOOO excited to watch this hair journey! 6 months will fly and your hair will look so different too! also you hair isnt light enough for the red to cancel out green i think, itll look a little muddy / have a strange undertone. i actually think the best way to go is to just trim it as it grows and keep using colour stripping shampoo. that works over time too though. not sure though, unfortunately black is awkward to work with on its way out...best of luck alex!! love you

Dont put red hair dye on that hair, even with hair color theory is still true and it WILL turn your hair purple. Do not. Put red on it.
Try maybe just putting a neutral brown over it, or try pulling out the blue evn more. Orange will probably cancel out the blue and give you a more natural color.

This is going to be rough. Black hair dye is difficult to remove. You're lucky that your hair is short though. My suggestion is to do a couple bleach baths. Mix 1/2 and half shampoo and bleach. It's more gentle on the hair and will lift it still

You'll likely do less damage if you did a bleach shampoo (aka a soap cap) than using clarifying shampoo and vitamin C over and over. It will likely turn out patchy, but if you can get enough dye out, you can dye over with maybe a burgundy and work your way to a red, and then let that fade out with your natural hair.
Or you could just cut off all the black and just grow out your roots :P

    • @muuuumipappa
      @muuuumipappa 2 роки тому

I agree, using a bleach/shampoo mix or just straight up bleach would probably do less damage than using clarifying shampoo and vitamin C so many times.
Sulphur based colour remover before bleach might work also.
