Today Bill Daily becomes the 16th MG celebrity to score a head-to-head match victory! And this was his very first shot at it! (The other celebs are the regulars of course: Richard, Brett, and Charles; and Betty White, Bert Convey, Ann Elder, Stu Gilliam, Jack Klugman, Jo Ann Pflug, Jack Carter, Carolyn Jones, Michael Landon, Loretta Switt, Richard Thomas, and Bobby Van.)
I think you're under. If you go by cigarettes, it's worth about $150k. If you go by any other purchasing power, it's probably worth much more than $28k. E.g., rent, food, new car, car insurance, doctor bills, dentist bills. Maybe you went by postage stamps, milk, eggs, or a loaf of bread. These are all price controlled. Go by actual consumer expenses.
That's the way I was raised to say it. "Los Angeles" Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Dodgers etc. My father's generation, pronounced it "Loss Ang-less" or "Downtown" but never heard him say "L.A."
Richard's real name was Colin Emm. When he started out doing stand up comedy in England in the 1960s he adopted the stage name "Dickie Dawson." When he started to work in America he appeared under that name but soon adapted it to "Dick Dawson", for example, in his early 1960s appearances on the original Dick Van Dyke Show. So it's understandable that someone who knew him (or knew of him) from those early days, someone such as his show biz contemporary Bill Daily, might still think of him as "Dickie Dawson." Later in the mid-1960s for Hogan's Heroes he was billed as "Richard Dawson" --guess he felt it sounded more formal or professional--and he legally changed his name to this at some point.
My opinion is that was her shtick early on. On episodes where Jack Klugman is a celeb he knocks Brett on every question. When Charles Nelson Riley came on board that gave both an opportunity to goad each other lightly. In later years Brett did grow into the part IMHO.
ROFL! Another fine episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Jack! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Fannie! ;0) Jewish! ;0) biget? hmm.. Does anyone else want to say Cheryl you can't be serious. Did anyone else find that sometimes Brett Somers was all about herself & no one else. It got kinda annoying after awhile. Love this show so much though!!
Sarah Kinsey I have thought the SAME thing! She is always commenting on EVERYTHING and mentions Jack Klugman ( Husband I know ) every time she can throw his name in there. I think she got big headed at the success of show and thought it was due to her quirkiness??? Also agree 100 % about CNR he is not only hilarious he handles her and her antics VERY well!! I scan the comments on every episode to see if anyone agrees with what Im thinking during episode and I havent seen one in a while since you so thanks
What I like about Brett when she's picked in the super match she really wants the contestants to win. When she doesn't match with them she seems genuinely upset, and when she does she seems genuinely happy for them.
If this show was current I think they all would answer vegan for the big bad 🐺 question. Never liked the Peter pan story but I knew it would be in the $500.00 spot
In the last episode the contestant said “I’ll take Dick” 🤦♂️😂 Anyway don’t think Richard liked that, hence the whole to do at the beginning of the this episode.
How can you say that when she matched with the other celebrities. On the fight answers. A conference with my husband was REALLY unconventional..... meeting or conference in my marriage means a... LOVE SESSION BUT ANYWAYS I still say that Judy Carn matched the other celebrities quite well..
As I CONTINUE to read these comments they are getting more and more abusive towards other commenters....I'm just going to stop reading them. Thanks MGP for these MG videos....
That was an 80s upgrade: my mum said similar. No one imagined the wife was married to the house. It's a 'women's lib' idea. Most people were not impressed, however: homemaker = housewife.
In today's world, the voice on the other end of the phone would say, "We've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty."
Or some silly woman nattering on in Mandarin.
"Two from column A, one from B, and with six, you get egg roll"
Brian's Afro is cool. Love the the seventies.
I like how he said "It's your day in the barrel" which is the punchline of a dirty joke.
@@ostrich67 He's handsome too.

Ahh, how I remember those pant suits! lol
Bill was absolutely hilarious !!! And my favorite MG guest !!!
Astonishing to think this was on FIFTY years ago.
Inch Worm - yea !! Wtg !! , Bill
$5,000 in 1973 is equivalent in purchasing power to $28,292.00 in 2019, a difference of $23,292.00 over 46 years.

I love the way they all used to say the full name of the city of Los Angeles instead of L.A. like everyone does now.

Oh yes, Brian sounds like a delicious treat. I hope he sticks around awhile so that voice can captivate my dreams.
No more calling him Dickie Dawson!
People still called him that occasionally, though.
I never knew why he let them call him that in the first place. It sounds like a juvenile name of a snot nosed rich kid or something.
how did he got the name from?
Richard's real name was Colin Emm. When he started out doing stand up comedy in England in the 1960s he adopted the stage name "Dickie Dawson." Fannie with glasses.....wow.
I bet some of those super match contestants could HEAR the pen strokes and get the word that the actor wrote...
the danged ads are coming fast and furious
Calling on Brett for your head to head is like the punchline to a bad joke lol.
poor contestants they didn't know what they were up to, LOL, never understood how they kept doing the same thing over and over again.😀

Did anyone else find that sometimes Brett Somers was all about herself & no one else. It got kinda annoying after awhile. Love this show so much though!!
I think having Charles there to bring her down to Earth was a great idea, it made the show so much funnier and kept it from always being about her.

I was thinking the same way as Polly on the marriage counselor question. My thought was "a session".

I thought vegan as well. 😊

new microphone !
for crying out loud , Ira - row is a synonym for fight - I believe Ira must be dumb
Row didn't match conference, so it was irrelevant

so know it makes sense, maybe it was the producer's idea to avoid future mistakes.
I hope she got what she asked for.
Brett missing CNR this week.
Who else wishes that the commercials had not been edited out?
I am thrilled that there are no commercials.TV today has more commercials than regular program content....drives me crazy
I would totally agree with you if they were the original 1973 commercials.
peanuts?
"Do you record (Match Game) off Buzzr or just GSN?"
Retrotv both and comedy gold in Canada
"How is it ran on Comedy Gold? the same way GSN messes it up by throwing out parting gifts and shrinking credits?"
What's ridiculous on GSN is they are frozen with January-July 1974, March 1977-May 1978 over and over.
“INCH blank”……wow, for $5,000. Bill matches. And everyone had “worm”, surprise. Is there any other response besides worm?!?

Once married to Burt Reynolds 😊
So tired of Brett Somers trashing Jack Klugman, her ex. Unprofessional and absolutely no class
I believe they were still married at this point.
Deborah Byington they were still married I think
The did that to each other but it was in jest. Actually they got along well. The same thing as was between Brett and Charles Nelson Reilly.

Never cared for the label housewife. My Mom taught me she wasn't married to a house. She used the term homemaker.

Or why not say stay at home mom?
The poor woman contestant, Shirley, got two awful questions, since there was no possible 'consensus' answer. Both were terrible questions. By design?
I don't know. "Fight" seemed to be easily a consensus answer to the marriage counselor question.
