This is such a great Andrew interview. No glasses, no deflection of questions to fit the bit of "Everything is partying and partying is everything" that he's been pushing for the last few years. He actually discusses processes of others and himself and I absolutely LOVE when he does. He rarely, rarely does it, but I am so happy when he does. I just wish it wasn't so rare.
This is such an insightful interview. Andrew WK is so much more than the character he puts off through just his music and videos. He's articulate and humble to the core.
What a guy! So thoughtful and articulate. I find my life has become much more peaceful and joyful as I get older (I'm 51). Something I've found highly condusive to feeling happy is *simplifying* life as much as possible. I know it's become a cliche, but mindfulness is a wonderful thing (and will take practice): slow it right down, observe and be present. Eschewing social media helps! Try to only increase the intensity when it feels good. For me, I like givin' er on my bicycle with aggressive music blasting through the earbuds, or playing some spirited guitar. At last, my days are consistently quite lovely and blissful.
Absolutely BRILLIANT, Love this dude ! His honesty is beyond glorious…a true artist….. To the interviewer : you stink for sounding like a soulless robot! Mirror your guests! Don’t micro analyze your guests! Use your head! You’ll get deeper answers and make them comfortable……
I just saw Andrew in concert for the first time last week. I've never been happier in my life than during that show. I don't think I'll feel the same way again unless it's another Andrew WK show. My voice is still recovering. Thanks Andrew.
Im just starting to get into AWK's music, after getting into his song "Party Hard", then dismissing him as an overzealous frat boy. His dozen year hiatus is fascinating, yet not mysterious because of what Ive learned of him apart from the music. He talks here about negativity, yet his popular singles are so positve they seem to border on self-help seminars. I find it super cool, because this is the human experience in a nutshell(if you could ever fit it in one). He seems to be a genius with surprisingly simple songs. I look forward to finding the complicated message(s) that i somehow know are in his albums and stage show's. Party hard, dude.
Andrew... we love you. I have anxiety too and I know that saying positive things changes nothing. Good luck on your journey through life. Your music has been an uplifting force for me through some hard times. Thanks for just being yourself.
My capacity to handle more intensity has not grown. Quite the opposite, I've begun to shrink away from over-stimulation, noise, chaos, the news, social media. I don't think I can handle high, constant levels of intensity. And as a consequence, if intensity increases generally, I foresee a very very very quiet life for me in old age!
I think AWK is a musical legend who is living the best life he can. No need for him to be down on himself. He has mad extremely hard strides towards success. We tend to be harder on ourselves than others are on us. Because sometimes, we are hard on others. Then we catch ourselves and think inwardly. I have ALWAYS judged my own music. I go by LDaVice typically. And I think oh well "because I live in a park in next to the pentagon, I must be a loser junkie worth nothing. But it's not always true. Maybe sometimes. But I can turn off the bad side and be just. Just a matter of when.
15:28 = "I've heard people describe these things as: You're whispering, you're whispering out a secret message, that you don't even realize is secret, and someone else hears it. Now, why does that person hear it, and why are they able to decode the secret message over the din of all the other screaming that is going on?" - Andrew W.K.
well as a Dark Funeral DoomMetal musician/composer for an instrumental band and a Goth person i say yeah.. Music totally helps to balance the monstrous Anxious Sadness and channel it into something else..
I feel fine a lot of time time, and when I don't it feels like I don't feel fine a lot of the time. It's possible to minimise those feelings and it's possible to minimise the toll they take on you. It's possible to grow through it
There is a song by the Japanese group Spitz called Boku no Guitar with a line that translates to "strumming is a form of prayer." Music has always served as a form of expression of and appreciation for the inexplicable. It's why some songs can sound like you Feel. I can express myself verbally quite well but sometimes it's through stirfry or silly dancing or an E minor chord. We all need a conduit.
It seems like Andrew WK has to make upbeat music to keep his demons at bay. For him it's therapy. Some connect to the music, some to him and the struggle. The nagging doubt I have is he has to crush the demons with such a wall onslaught of positive style upbeat music that it leaves some people cold. Fuck it must be nice not to even have such things clawing at you. Are we all mad?
A very good indicator of inteligence. And you can see some other indicators like a lack of long "ummmmm"s and ability to present something through an understandable analogy.

I used to be completely in love with this mans music, until I went through an insane year long opiate withdrawal. Now it’s a part of me more than ever but I can’t listen to it anymore :(
Im so sorry.. truly. The musical link to memory is strong. While I may not have issues with AWK, I still have issues with other bands and specific songs that are intertwined with a dark period of my life. For me, it IS possible to listen, but I had to accept that MANY things that were attached to my negative life and some songs can recall it. It took tears and time, but I try to not give the moments power over the music, and formed new memories. Just my trick. I hate the idea of AWKs positive music and vibes being lost, but I understand it.. Wishing you well on your journey man.
i think time will change that. theres muisc i couldnt listen to for 10 years and now i went back and its like listening with fresh ears and appreciate it again
I love Andrew WK so much he should stop fighting it and just become a Christ Follower! I don't know him but I trust that he is. I love when he talks about Jesus.
I think he has a few homes with a rotation of musical instrumentation in each, Andrew is a very literal guy, so maybe, in some of his homes he may have a grand Pinano!

The honesty is haunting, uneasy, and admirable. Thankyousir.
I have suffered from post traumatic stress and depression. Andrew and his music makes me smile.
"Do you have like a Grand Piano at home?" AWK: "Maybe." LOL. Best answer ever.
Actually, it wasn’t. Him playing two minutes later was a better answer.
The world needs W.K. right now.
Now and forever.
