    People give Joe Buck a lot of grief but he couldn't have handled this any better. The minimalist call of the double play followed by 3 minutes of silence letting the pictures tell the story. This is how it's done.

      Oh come on. I've heard Buck call dozens of series-ending plays, including home runs or, more applicable, the Cubs World Series victory. He's never been a minimalist for baseball. This is just him dropping the ball and uncorking his worst series-ending call ever.

      I didn't grow up in Chicago (grew up in Southern California, Dodgers and Padres territory) but I did get WGN.
      I was grounded one spring/summer (I was a little shit tbh) and the Cubs were on almost every day on WGN.
      I would watch out of boredom, then became invested in the Cubs, and next thing I know, I'm pulling and following the Cubs and have since. That was 1995 I think.
      And throughout all of those years was many many losing seasons and disappointment. 2003 broke my heart.
      I may have not grown up in Chicago, but I bled blue just like everyone in that crowd.

My best and I at the time had Steve Bartman brushed up against us as left Wrigley on Waveland Ave. It was wild losing to the Marlins. Such a heartbreak year. And 2008! Lost to the Dodgers.. also Cubs 100 year anniversary since last World Series and they were number #1 team that year.

      Dodgers can't be too down, they actually held the Cubs scoreless longer than any other team they face at 21 straight innings before the Zobrist bunt, which I believe led to the real winning of the pennant, because that one play finally woke up the offense.

    • @JennaLeigh
      @JennaLeigh 7 років тому +4

      Jude Law that's a great stat, and you're right. Kershaw had the Cubs' bats silent for a while, and Zobrist did seem to provide the spark that woke up the offense.

I’m Houston born & raised and never converted to the Astros and so glad I didn’t and never will. This organization is so electrifying and love how the cubs long history never kept us ( the fans ) from loving them any more or less. Houston has The biggest bandwagons in the MLB and that is fact. My wife bought me the 8 disc Blu Ray set with this game, plus all 7 games of the 2016 World Series. Each game had 4 separate audio tracks: the Hughes/Coomer Cubs Radio Network, the LA/Cleveland broadcast teams, the Fox Sports TV announcers and the Spanish play-by-play. I've watched them over and over, listening to different audio each time but I stay focused on the end of this game and the end of game 7 of the World Series. Just making the World Series was almost like winning it for these fans. Even Red Sox fans in their 86 year drought at least managed to go to the World Series a few times but most everyone in that stadium with the exception of the very old had never seen their team actually make it to the World Series. It's almost moving how in the final few innings the faces of the Cubs fans young and old went from nervousness thinking they were going to blow it again to tears when they realized what they thought would never happen in their lifetimes was actually going to happen.

    I was living on the West side of Chicago, Little Village neighborhood, when the Cubs clinched the pennant (born and raised NW side). I was on our apartment rooftop literally banging pots and pans (it was all I had) in celebration. All the Chicago Police and Fire Department cars/ trucks in the area rang their sirens at the same time. It was an epic night. I ended up repeatedly playing Magic Sam's Sweet Home Chicago blaring out my first floor window (Magic Sam lived on the West side). A million memories. My mom and sister called me from Florida when they clinched and I choked up and cried. Been a Cubs fan since 1984 when I was 12. It's not just a sports thing, it was a Chicago thing. This meant a lot to hard working, blue collar Chicagoans, who were loyal to the Cubs, and their families. Being a Cubs fan during the losing times was something not a lot of people understand. We were loyal to the Cubs, but we were loyal to our families, our jobs, our neighborhoods, as well. It was a bond only local Chicagoans can understand.

    At 9:05 you can see a man leaning on the bar having a moment to himself amongst the chaos and celebration. Not sure what was going through his mind but i know for me it was my grandfather. Born in 1938 in Chicago and lived there his entire life a diehard Cubs fan. He listened to them on the radio at the world series in 1945 when he was 7 years old cuz they didn’t have a TV. He passed away April of 2016 just 6 months shy of seeing his cubbies win. Theres not a single thing I possess that I wouldn’t give to have witnessed him see his cubs go all the way. I still get emotional watching this video 7 years later. Go Cubs Go!

    During the 7th inning , I kept having this fear that the cubs would find some way to blow it. Like Chapman having a sudden case of the yips, our infielders pulling a Gonzalez, or heaven forbid another bartman foul ball. When we made that double play, it was pure ecstasy

    Anyone that is a SPORTS fan had to be glad the Cubs finally won the NLCS, and then the World Series, in 2016.
    I'm more of a White Sox fan than Cubs fan .... but being a lifelong Chicagoan, the Cubs OWN Chicago. Literally. 2003 broke my heart for the diehard fans that watched them blow a 3-1 series lead ... so I'm glad 2016 happened for them.

    Not a Cubs fan. In fact, a fan of a rival (Brewers), but even I got caught up in this while living in the city. Went near Wrigley area, sat myself down at a pub and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was pretty cool, knowing the history of the team, the LONG wait, etc. I just hope to someday experience it with Milwaukee. I was too young to fully grasp it all in 82'.

    I was at a friend's birthday party, in the streets of St. Louis of all places, decked out in Cubbie blue gear. Cardinals fans couldn't have been any more supportive. We were leaving to a very tall building with a bar at the top floor. I ran up the stairs while everyone else waited for the elevator, so I could watch the bottom of the 9th from the TV that didn't even have the sound on and ball my eyes out. Let's just say drinks were had.
