I understand that, as a professional, you set a standard for yourself. I respect that in all professionals. But please know that, for this pair of eyes, the garment is absolutely beautiful and far from looking at/for flaws, I am constantly amazed by how you improvise your way through almost anything. I find that ability truly awe inspiring. I wish you and your family well and thank you for all the beauty.
To be honest, I always find it comforting when you show things that don't work quite right. When I sew, I feel the same "this is awful, this is embarrassingly bad and ugly and I hate it and I should throw it away" about every single thing I make, and it's a relief hearing people who are as skilled as you still have to deal with those feelings. It's very inspiring that you still find ways to share the "messups" (though in no way would I call a gown this pretty a messup!!) and not just hide them in bins like I do!
Arden Winner totally agree! She's a perfectionist and is too hard on herself. Doesn't like to post videos of projects that don't turn out well, even though making "mistakes" (her term) always teaches her some new skill or workaround to add to her sewing arsenal. Angela, please consider sharing more videos of projects that don't turn out the way you hoped they would--your so-called "failures" are always teaching you something. And others can learn from your experiences! I encourage you to be a bit less perfect when presenting your work to us. It makes you human and so much more relatable to those of us who struggle to even sew on a button (that would be me).
"Sometimes making something poorly is better than making nothing at all." YES! This is one of the many reasons we admire you. You sew SO much. You are so motivated. You work so hard. Plus your idea of poorly is so different from ours!
I desperately need a dress like this! Even when you feel like you do poorly on a project it comes out beautiful. It makes you look like The Ghost of Christmas Present from A Christmas Carol!
I’m shocked that you didn’t like this project as much, I loved the end result! Would love to just romp around at home around Christmas time in something like this. The drama 🤣
Wow! Finally somebody has made a tea-gown! I love them,- and ladies liked them through the big part of the 19-s century,- and the beginning of 20-s century, of course. These home dresses were the lifesavers in the long historical period of tight corsets, and mentioned warmly in many 19-s century novels about domestic life.
This is such a stunning dress, you'd never of guessed the improvisations and rushed elements. Which indicates both talent as a dressmaker and intuition as a designer. Amazing xxx
Part of what makes your videos so compelling for me is that as another sewist, I appreciate your commentary on parts of the process that irked you or gave you trouble. We only ever learn and grow from confronting difficult parts of the process and even though I'll never be able to draft a beautiful pattern the way you can, it feels nice to watch you work and recognize some of the same challenges I've faced over the years. In the end, you created a beautiful gown so very reminiscent of the tea gowns that inspired you. And if you are able to move in it and feel graceful you achieved your goal!
One of the things I really appreciate is your honesty. When you don't like something about the thing you're making, you up and say it! I'm so impressed you stuck with it right to the end, and came out with something absolutely stunning. It really is inspiring for us sewers (like me) who give up halfway because the thing they are working on isn't going well. This goes to show if we all push through, we can end up with our own gorgeous Edwardian tea gowns. Or something like that.
“Sometimes making something poorly, is better than not making it at all. “ wise words indeed, and I commend you for your honesty and willingness to share in a way that gives others an opportunity to benefit and learn. Thank you 🙏🏻 once again in ways you will never know. Congrats 🥰
I love the amount of videos you’ve been posting over the last few days😍 it makes me so happy when I see one of your Patreon or UA-cam notifications pop up🤗
I won't add to the other commenters about how you needn't be so hard on yourself. As a perfectionist, I completely get it. Your comment about the lace looking "like toilet paper" got me thinking. I believe your dissatisfaction with that aspect of the tea gown is because the lace being used is a relatively simple eyelet design. Lace in the Edwardian Period was SERIOUS. Uber-complicated laces, like Alencon, Irish, or Valenciennes lace, was used as the trimming on tea gowns. You have a budget, as we all do, so I am not saying "Buy expensive fancy lace." What I am saying is that, visually, I believe you would have felt differently about the finished product if a more delicate lace was available. What I will say is that you consistently make the most of your stock/stash/oodles of fabric and notions! I feel that if you had the more complicated lace (and a ton of it), you would have been more pleased with the final result. Having said all of that, I know this looks beautiful Angela! And so do your subscribers!
I don't sew. I just watch your videos bc I like the way you explain your projects and I like watching how things are made... This video was a big contrast to others... It makes apparent the details that someone that doesn't sew and wouldn't realize are important to the craft... Its a beautiful project and your explanations are as always very informative
I love it! The train is gorgeous! I made an 1890's tea gown earlier this year and now have quite an affinity for these garments! Seeing your video brought back all my positive feelings for that project! Thanks for sharing - and the insides of your tea gown resemble the insides of most of my "rush" projects. Sometimes you've just gotta make something, even if you don't technically have the time!
Artists are their own worst critics! I love it. I am always so impressed that you can just draw things out from your own mind and make something that actually fits a human body.
I like what you said in this video, that's it's better to make something poorly and give your best and learn from it. You inspired me to take out my sewing machine for the first time in years and I made a very ambitious project that you did, the vogue 8789. Its not perfect, but it fits and it's wearable. I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to my next project. So, don't be to hard on yourself, you're doing great.
I love how slenderizing this dress is! My sewing has improved by watching your process. Thanks for making it so much fun to jump on your bandwagon! My all time favorite dress is the teal green satin dress (which you said was in actuality green) with the vintage blackish sequins. I am a fan of your bead and sequin work! I think one of my favorite videos was a cream colored Christmas dress you made with red velvet bows around the wrists. You made something that looked like it would be too complicated to make, seem like something do-able. (the background music was nice too!) I loved the white fairy Christmas dress from last year. I used to live in Moscow, and have always loved the Russian ballet, which that dress reminded me of. Lastly, I love how you mix it up, by making fantasy costumes with over the top embellishments, all the way to quirky fun outfits that any of us could easily wear today. You have definitely added joy to my year. Please have a Happy New Year!
They are right you are to hard on yourself. For someone who has been sewing for 30 years i am amazed by your talents. I don't see the flaws you see. Try to enjoy what you do more. That's why you started doing it in the first place. I wish you lots of luck with all you sewing endeavors for the New Year. Please keep it up you are an inspiration to many. And to me someone who's been sewing longer than you been alive.
Sometimes, when you are trying something new, you have to treat the first garment as a fancy mockup. You will make mistakes, and find out what works, and what does not. The end result may not be up to your usual standard, but it still looks fantastic.
I absolutely love this fabric! The colour suits you really well. You've really outdone yourself this Christmas. You've made so many things for us to watch and envy! The images of this look perfectly fine, and it's definitely a style that suits you. If I were you, I would now go and hibernate for the next month so you can catch up on all your missed sleep. Thank you so much for providing such entertainment the christmas.
Those are some wise opening words, young miss Angela👍. We only learn when we try and adjust as we go. And on that note, I’d say you learned a lot. IMHO the end result looks very festive and beautiful in the worn photos. For a gown which I assume you won’t wear daily, I could justify a less then perfect finish on the inside.
It is so gorgeous. I can't believe how pretty it turned out. It looks fantastic on you and perfect for your Christmas costume and. I do believe it is my favorite one to date.
This emerald is my favorite color. Also you sew like a fiend. I'm so impressed, always really. This gown looks beautiful and i love love love the way the train lays. Those sleeves too are soooo dreamy and puffy.
I think it is lovely! Good job pushing through -- now the next time you do something like this, it will be way easier and you will be ready to talk about it more! I think it looks fun to wear and would love to see you do another someday!
I find the draping projects that I struggled with some of my favorite projects because I learn so much with every mistake, and when if pulls together at the end it's definitely successful. You have a pretty final project and lots of knew knowledge from the journey!!
I agree with other posters that the gown is actually lovely in spite of the constructions issues. I'm kind of thinking that could be a point for historical accuracy. (!). One of the great couturier of the early 20th century was Paul Poiret for whom we should give thanks every day because he was a, if not the, major influence in getting us out of corsets all day, every day.... Now you may think you love corsets, and maybe you do, but have you ever tried to bend over while wearing one? So God bless you Paul Poiret! What a magnificent man! He was celebrated for his feminine, artistic, and historically inspired designs which were so wonderful and original that his patrons were willing to ignore the general rough and unfinished quality of of his garments' construction, at least until Chanel came along. Score one for authenticity! Well done Angela!
I understand the feeling of being unsatisfied with something you've created but this is beautifull. If it makes you very unhappy you can always makeva similar project in the future, take what youve learned and take your time with it
I love this style of tea gown. I've a brown silk one I made that fits with the 1870's natural form and can kinda also be used for 1880's with a bustle. But I'd love to make a white cotton one in this style for a light weight summer tea gown.
I think this is outstanding. It looks beautiful on you. We are our own worst critic, I know, but you are being too hard on yourself for this one. LOVE IT!
so lovely!!! you did a great job!!! 💖💖 even if it’s not your favorite piece I think it’s beautiful and I hope you enjoyed gaining the experience! I agree that sometimes it’s good to let go and give yourself permission to do somewhat poorly in order to try something new, and not be too hard on yourself!
Merry Christmas! The gown looks lovely on you. You really own that shade of green. I would love to see this pattern or something similar to it tackled again when you have more time. I’m really partial to this style of gown. They’ve always looked regal yet comfortable. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Beautiful dress! Also, I've never seen anyone machine gather fabric like that before, so I'm going to experiment with that on my next project. You can never have too many ruffles!
Angela is there nothing you can’t do. This and all your other projects have turned out beautifully. You are so talented. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ❤️
I think it is absolutely stunning. I would love to walk around in something like this. And this color on you. Oh. 2nd favorite project you have ever posted for sure.
This is stunning absolutely stunning. Well done, you got all your videos out and spoilt us all for the holidays. Enjoy a little well deserved break and I can't wait to see you recharged, creative and fabulous. Xx
We all have that project that just won't do as it's told & doesn't live up to expectations & makes our blood boil just thinking about it; fortunately, most of us can throw a bit of a tanty & stuff the project in the bottom of a wardrobe where we don't have to look at it again. Then one day in the future we'll stumble across it, whilst in a better frame of mind & just adore it all over again. I couldn't do what you do; planning & running a sewing schedule alongside a filming & editing schedule would turn me into a bona fide basket-case. You do very well indeed.
I absolutely adore this gown! The green silk and lace go beautifully together and the whole thing creates a really nice silhouette. Beautiful work, and well done for pushing through even when you were struggling.
Oh, I love this! While the inside looks messy and the process was bumpy, I’m glad you’re happy with how it turned out because it ended up being a great project to challenge you while making it yet still ending up with a lovely garment unlike anything you’ve made before. Well done!
I know this project was a huge struggle for you, but I personally am obsessed with the lace you chose and the white-green contrast. And those sleeeeeves!
Merry Christmas, Angela. I hope 2018 was better than 2017 for you. Keep making content and push the envelope. I see that you’ve learned some new things this year. Love your content. I’m wishing you much success and joy in your work in the year to come.
This gown is the reason I’ve been obsessed with tea gowns for the last year and I thought I should come back to say that I’m always thinking about this video because BIG MOOD with hating a thing you make until the very end
You’ve taught me something new again 😁. I had never thought about using the zipper foot to get close to the edge when doing seams. I’ll be doing that now 🙂. The gown is beautiful by the way.
Love this gown! Absolutely gorgeous outcome. I've been knitting for ~16 years and I have had SO MANY projects like this - the list of things that go right is shorter than the list of things that go wrong, but in the end, the result is still gorgeous. I love the work you do and I admire your dedication and investment of time & money into this channel and these projects!
idk anything sewing but somehow i stumbled across your channel and what you make is so beautiful!!!you are seriously so skilled and i’m really glad i found your videos
I understand that, as a professional, you set a standard for yourself. I respect that in all professionals. FunctionofLight One agree!!!
Ive watched several of your videos and Im truly impressed.
You're too hard on yourself, Angela. The gown looks beautiful.
If 96 people tell you this than I hope you see we have a point 😊

Oh angela this dress is to die for
It's a testament to your skill and intuition when this is a result of you rushing. That green is stunning, too.
I desperately need a dress like this! Even when you feel like you do poorly on a project it comes out beautiful.

‘I’m not proud of this’ girl, you are your own worst enemy. This is amazing. Give yourself the credit you’re due 💛
I still think this is stunning and that you should remake it
Girl you are DELIVERING the content intensity this month and it’s ALL AMAZING!
This is such a stunning dress, you'd never of guessed the improvisations and rushed elements. Which indicates both talent as a dressmaker and intuition as a designer. Amazing xxx

Very beautiful result. I like the philosophy of "more lace" and "add lace to hide mistakes ". It looks very glamourous.

It's still a gorgeous gown. I love the color and lace. Have a Merry Christmas!

first . I love this . second please make more tea gowns, they are fascinating .
So many videos! Best Christmas ever! Thank you Angela :)
I hope you refine this pattern and get it published. It would be a perfect Mrs. Santa dress.

This is my absolutely favorite dress that you have sewn out of all the videos you've done. It is a gorgeous, beautiful, dramatic dress.

Wow! You are continually blowing me away with your newest projects! This dress looks amazing! I am very much in awe of your prowess.
It looks gorgeous though! I want one to glamorously stroll around the two rooms of my apartment.
This finished gown is glorious! I know that doesn't mean too much from a complete non-sewer like me, but it truly is. I love your Edwardian creations.
Your photos make this one of my favorite creations of yours!!!!
Looks lovely in pictures... So pretty. So perfect for Holiday Mornings. I love it.
Sometimes, when you are trying something new, you have to treat the first garment as a fancy mockup. You will make mistakes, and find out what works, and what does not. The end result may not be up to your usual standard, but it still looks fantastic.
Oh my goodness Angela. Your "not proud of it" is absolutely stunning. I love it so much!

It totally gives me the ghost of Christmas present vibes, especially with the floral crown!
Beautiful! Imagine that with billows of lace :). Love your work! Merry Christmas from Brazil!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who absolutely dreads sleeves
I seriously don’t think you know just how AMAZING you are!
Beautiful. The lace really makes the finished design .
Gorgeous! It's a case of you knowing all the quirks, but anyone who didn't make it wouldn't ever see any flaws. Thank you for sharing!
Stunning. That green was MADE for you!!!
It is so gorgeous. I can't believe how pretty it turned out. It looks fantastic on you and perfect for your Christmas costume and. I do believe it is my favorite one to date.
What a beautiful gown! The green is WOW!
This emerald is my favorite color. Also you sew like a fiend. I'm so impressed, always really. This gown looks beautiful and i love love love the way the train lays. Those sleeves too are soooo dreamy and puffy.
This dress is absolutely lovely! It might have been rushed, but the silhouette and color are beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful. Your gathering technique fascinates me. What an awesome skill.
It is beautiful. That style is surprisingly figure flattering. You seldom see that in the full skirts. Merry Christmas.
I love it! It's great hearing about things that don't go so well to begin with, and how you fix them.
What a dream! That green is my absolute favorite color
I love early 1900s fashions. I'd love to see more. I love your taste.
I understand the feeling of being unsatisfied with something you've created but this is beautifull. If it makes you very unhappy you can always makeva similar project in the future, take what youve learned and take your time with it
Even when you fail the end result is lovely. 💙
I love this style of tea gown. I've a brown silk one I made that fits with the 1870's natural form and can kinda also be used for 1880's with a bustle. But I'd love to make a white cotton one in this style for a light weight summer tea gown.
I'm beyond amazed with all of these videos you put up lately.
Love the finished piece and would love to see you try this sort of thing again when you have more time to focus on it!
This is such a great looking dress. I want one!! I wish they were appropriate to serve tea nowadays!! Also would be great maternity dresses!!
I think that this dress came out beautiful and that you did a great job on it!! Your Christmas gowns always look awesome!
I think it's a lovely dress. So romantic looking. You do a fab job!
This. Is. Magnificent. Adding to the never ending to-do list.
I personally think it's absolutely gorgeous!
Beautiful, I would never have known it wasn't exactly what you wanted if you hadn't said so, I really liked the finished product!
You did a wonderful job angela. I love your gown.
Merry Christmas! The gown looks lovely on you. You really own that shade of green. I would love to see this pattern or something similar to it tackled again when you have more time. We all have that project that just won't do as it's told & doesn't live up to expectations & makes our blood boil just thinking about it; fortunately, most of us can throw a bit of a tanty & stuff the project in the bottom of a wardrobe where we don't have to look at it again. This is freaking gorgeous. I'm not sure why you dislike it. I respect your standards but I think it's very Christmas Carole like and beautiful ...
I love your Teagown expressly the color
I absolutely adore this gown! The green silk and lace go beautifully together and the whole thing creates a really nice silhouette. Beautiful work, and well done for pushing through even when you were struggling.
Oh its simply gorgeous. I love the style and the color and it's just wow you did so well!
Huge compliment on choice of materials!
I love this silhouette! Pretty gown Angela!
I've been scrolling through UA-cam for what feels like eternity until I discovered your video, finally the dress of my dreams. 😍
Oh, I love this! While the inside looks messy and the process was bumpy, I’m glad you’re happy with how it turned out because it ended up being a great project to challenge you while making it yet still ending up with a lovely garment unlike anything you’ve made before. Well done!
I would literally wear this as a dressing gown/robe daily lol... postman comes by, why hellooooo

Pretty and an elegant Day dress.
You’ve taught me something new again 😁. I had never thought about using the zipper foot to get close to the edge when doing seams. I’ll be doing that now 🙂. The gown is beautiful by the way.
It’s gorgeous! The Christmas dresses are my favorite of yours, and this one did not disappoint!
Lovely, absolutely lovely! Love the color too. What fun!
That is beautiful, no matter what you say! You did a great job at making it.
