    I have the 3090 and plan on upgrading it.
    Mine has a i5 10500 T 8GB Ram and a 256GB M.2 2230 SSD in it.

    Using my 3040 in my truck to run the ECU and do live tuning. Thinking about swapping my i3 out for this i7.

    Just waned to mention that you might need to go into the BIOS to enable hyper-threading after swapping from the i5 to the i7.

    Hello Dear Charlee,
    Obviously, you rock, man! I really appreciate your tutorial, and you have inspired me to upgrade my processor from the i5 to the i7 to have more power on my Optiplex 7060 micro.
    I'm afraid of not making the right choice regarding the processor. Which generation of the i7 will be compatible with my computer, the 9th or 10th (or only the 8th), which version too k or t...? Can you advise me on that point with exact references of i7 pocessors? FYI: I have the last version of the bios, updated by the 24/04/2024. with same mother card than yours
    Also, should I change the fan, or would my current 5V 1A fan, producing 5W, be sufficient for the new i7 processor?
    Thank you, man. I appreciate it.
    Regards,
    ML

      I would get the same generation as the i5 just to be safe. People have stated that you can use different processors but didn't want to deal with any inconveniences. I7-8700T is the way to go.

    That thing you are calling a heat shield is actually called a heatsink, or more commonly called the CPU cooler.

      The black plastic is the fan shroud. It directs hot air out the back of the case. The actual heatsink part is the aluminium block touching the CPU.

    I have the same optiplex-7060. How do I know which processors will be compatible? Does it have to be an 8th Gen Intel?

    • @charleeeugene
      @charleeeugene  Місяць тому +1

      I’ve heard you can use different processors but I”d stick with 8th gen to be safe.

      @@charleeeugene thanks, I had a look at processor costs for the 8700T and they aren’t cheap. I got my unit second hand as a lot of companies sell their after 3-4 year and the new processor would be nearly the cost of what I paid for the PC. Did you notice a significant improvement in performance?

  • @flywire0
    @flywire0 6 місяців тому +1

    fyi - The 8500T has a base frequency of 2.10 GHz while the 8500 non-T has a base frequency of 3.00 GHz. Processing and power usage is proportional to chip frequency.

      The major difference between the 8th gen i5 and i7, is having two threads per core (Hyper-Threading), instead of one.
