  • Sea urchins are easy to farm and will be cost-effective to harvest, as they can be harvested in almost any conditions at any time. The low-maintenance of sea urchins also makes them a desirable and prospering business.

    Years ago I saw a documentary that talked about how sea otters in the Americas kept urchins in check. When otters were hunted for fur, urchins got out of hand and the kelp forests were devastated. With the otters repopulation, the kelp has a chance to grow again.

      You're right. Plus it was just the fur, they were dying from pollution and habitat loss.

    This if you know how it reproduces and how easy it is to create a sea urchin farm.

      Yer missing out bud, I’ll tell you that. Had a buddy that was an urchin diver in San Diego. One time, he brought over 100 pounds of rejects from the packing plant and we ate em all in one night with wonder bread and corona. Shit was glorious! The kicker? I still couldn’t get enough. I miss eating em twice a week! I live in the Midwest now, and keeping up the habit would bankrupt me in weeks 😢
      That, and monkfish liver. And oysters. Maybe I’m just obsessed with seafood- I’ll have to land a job on the coast again! Maybe I’ll work part time at a seafood restaurant for that sweet employee discount! Used to get 50-75% off at the last place I worked. Freakin prime rib and oysters every night baby!

    • @KurenaiKimitsu
      @KurenaiKimitsu 3 роки тому +3

      They don't have a true brain. Just a ring of nerves that act as a nervous system. But any freshly killed animal (muscles) still twitch and move after the kill because the nerves will still be alive for a short while. For example a chopped up fresh octopus or squid still moves even though it's in small pieces

    I'm so proud and happy. Sea urchins as chattel can make sense a few which ways. I think they ingest alga, epiphyton, periphyton, epipelon and facultatively benthic forms of plankton. The Red species is an Ideal morphotype for manual processing; 'that' being bred into the population is erudite. Big Brother really works well in Japan and/or Fisherfolk are ruling. It would be nice to know what common octopus preference is in amongst the sea-urchin chattel. It isn't impossible to think of the carbonate fraction being addressed to something Imperial like composted soil fertility amendant. My ideal commodity format 4:55; I bow to the system.
