- In this video we discuss an upcoming speaker upgrade I will be making to my Fender Supersonic 22 using a Celestion Type A speaker. We also discuss if speaker upgrades are actually worth the cost and effort?
Best idea ever, speaker upgrades are the most effective thing you can do to sculpt your tone, thank you :)
I absolutely love speaker upgrades nothing changes your sound more than a speaker. There are some great company's like warehouse guitar speakers and eminence that make amazing speakers that can be had for the same price as a pickup.
Lots of choice for sure!
I never thought about giving a speaker time to "mature." Interesting. Nice video.
I appreciate your honesty here, I can tell you know your stuff. Subscribed
Really Great to hear you talking ....... I'm sure from the sounds of it you really love to hear yourself talking too!!!!! Cheers!!!!!!
For my supersonic 60w, I have removed the Celestion 30 Vintage that came as standard and I have mounted a Jupiter 12LC, and it looks like another one, I am delighted with the change
Thanks for the info. What main change in the sound did you notice?
I use this speaker in my marshall dsl 40c and is a great upgrade from the standard celestion seventy 80.. the amp is far warmer and has a nicer low and top end now..it's actually a very greenback flavour speaker which doesn't coincide with the american sound that it implies.. Even pete thorn admits to hearing a very british quality to it.
The only thing is i have to dial the mids on my DSL to between 2-3 oc'clock to find that sweet spot depending on what type of guitar and pickups i'm using. Anything less than that leaves you with quite a scooped sound which i understand is the american flavor it supposed to give you. Great speaker that very few are familiar with..it's a very musical speaker that can pack a punch when you need it !
I respect Jim's dad
I'm just imagining what my neighbors would think if I had a looper playing the same riff, at high volume, all day while I was at work.
The Paranoid Blues Man only one way to find out haha
There is definitely not enough thought given to speakers when talking guitar sounds. I get into arguments in the comments constantly. I truly believe that pickup and speaker choice are more important than amp choice. Bring on the hate....go
Hi! I just found your channel today, searching for Charvel San Dimas reviews. Congratulations! Your channel is really good. I think I watched 20 of your videos in a row. Thank you for the extremelly good tips. Did you release the video with the demo of the Celestion Type A intalled yet? Thanks again. Cheers!
Thanks for the nice comments. No i didn't release that video yet but I will as soon as I can. Thanks for watching.
Yes, spending more money always improves your guitar playing..
I dont known if youre being sarcastic but i dont really care much about getting better at this point.
I just want to hear better noises when i make one🤣
Its just so pleasurable to my ears
It won't improve your playing, but it might improve your sound.
Hi, where is the video with the Supersonic and the new speaker?
after watching this I managed to improve my little practice amp just by removing the back
Thanks for the video.
Review how the A speaker sounds, how about?
I love my A type. Thanks!
nice exlpanation
New subscriber and new to guitar. Thanks for the good info as I was thinking about installing a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker in my new Blackstar HT studio 20 combo. Many things to think about. Thanks again.
The Vintage 30 is good choice. Just make sure you break it in for at least 30 hours when its new. The sound will change quite a bit.
Hello great video. Is it worth it to upgrade a stock 8" speaker for my Marshall combo?
You should
@@addictedtogear but replace it for a better 8" speaker or a 12"
Still need to pick it up but my father picked up a 4x12" peavey cab for $20 today. Now either the woman he bought it from was selling her ex's cab or it has no working speakers. Still need to figure that one out.
Please let us Know if you kept the Celestion or not? What was the result?
Is this fit for replace to my fender champion 100???
What is the best speaker for my 100watt solid state guitar amp can you help me thanks
If you never try another speaker you may never know the sonic improvement it can make !
Therefore you are lacking knowledge of the possibilities and once you try another speaker you find your current speaker lacks really good tones !
Stock speakers usually suck in non-boutique combos or cabinets !
Gritty speaker tones for rock are the Eminence red coat speakers , not my favorite sound !
Clear normal harmonics are found in the Eminence Legend speakers !
Celestion vintage 30 has a touch of grit noticed after trying the Legend speaker !
My Cream Back celestion 65 watt speaker is not gritty but has added bottom frequencies and not midrange dominate but highs sound exceptional !
My laney came with a Celestion 78/80 8 ohm and is lacking heavy bottom but has a bright attack I wish to replace but cannot due too the power tube location to close for any other 12" speaker to fit !
I have 2 Eminence Wizard speakers I will not use due to the gritty presentation they have , they seem to be for a cheap rock amp sound and lack true harmonics ?
Careful what you buy , you may not like those red coats !
Hi there. I hope you don't mind me tapping into your wisdom with lengthy question. I have a Fender Supersonic 60 with a Celestion Vintage 30 that I LOVE. It is a bit old and also heavy,.... so for a backup I just got a new Supersonic 22. "Close but no cigar" as they say. It comes with a made for fender Eminence speaker. It just doesn't do it for me. I ran the power from the Supersonic 22 to the Celestion 30 in the 60 cabinet and it was awesome. The cabinets are very similar but not identical. Here's my question ...Can I put a Celestion Vintage 30 60 watt speaker in my Supersonic 22 watt amp. I know it sounds good but I don't want to ruin an $1100 amp. Thanks Craig
MrCraigDNelson yes you can. I changed the speaker in my supersonic 22 to a V type speaker and I like it much better now.
@@addictedtogear Thanks, I didn't know if the 60 watt part would make difference..
@@addictedtogear I put the Celestion Vintage 30 in the Supersonic 22. It's very close to the Supersonic 60 with the same speaker. Much better then the stock speaker.... Not exact but I have to break it in and tweek it. fingers crossed
I bought a kustom with a 12. I'm curious to see if a new speaker will make it sound better
It may. Doesn't hurt to try a few...
@@addictedtogear The speaker in it is rated at 24 watts, 8 ohms. Would my 20 watt amp push a speaker rated at 75 w or should I stay in the 25 watt category?
@@Xxmeca421xX it would work but a 25 watt speaker would probably be a better match.
@@Xxmeca421xX What sounds are u going for ? Try warehouse speakers or a cheap copy cat ..
Or I like alnico spkers
@@2007srv it sounds thin to me. Idk how to describe it otherwise. I got it for $60 so I don't want to put anything crazy expensive in it.
I know the video is old but hopefully you still read comments.....I am disappointed with the fender speakers(chinese) that came in the fender champion 100. Any ideas of what 2 "12 in speakers to put in?
Maybe you can try a Celestion V type speaker. I think those sound very nice.
@@addictedtogear thanks for recommending!
@Eugene Mitchem I appreciate the reply, I'll check those out!
@Eugene Mitchem right on!
Can I connect 25W speaker to 15W amplifier?
Yes, just don't connect a 15 watt speaker to a 25 watt amp or you could damage the speaker...and make sure the impedance of the speaker matches the output of the amp or you could damage the amp
@@jasondorsey7110Jason, I'm newbie to guitar world (2 years)
And i bought only the head...
It's an orange micro dark (i don't play metal ..haha😊)
I have heard good opinions about it (cleans and light dirt)
It's 20w hubrid with 12AX7 in the preamp
And now i have to find a cab
Orange matches it with a 1x8''
But many people say it's better fuller with 1x12 or 2x 12
I'm thinking a cab 1x10"
One more
IS there a difference between oped -closed cabs?
It would be great if you take the time, to tell me one two things
@@dimitris70 A 1x12 cab is going to be better than a 1x8...a 2x12 may be overkill...a closed back cab will be bassier than open back
@@jasondorsey7110 Man thaaank ya
Yes, it's the impedance that must be correct
Just get a multiband graphic equaliser...
Lmao. You're probably right. A used MXR 10 Band EQ and be done with it.
@@INeverWanted2010The amp will sound muffled and boxy no matter what if the stock speaker is garbage, but I do agree about eq pedals, they're not a fun pedal but they are the most useful thing you could have taking up space on a pedalboard
How does the ohms affect tone e.g. A 1x12 combo cab either a 8 ohm or 16 ohm my amp can run either
a different coil from output transformer
Running at 16 ohms will sound thinner then running at 8 ohm
You only have part one of the blues jr mods on here bud??
Yes , I was also curious as to what the outcome of your Blues Jr part 2 .
I haven't had a chance to upload the video yet. It's coming soon. Stay tuned!
