  • This Nuendo Studio Session video looks at creating new sounds for video games, focusing on creature sound design for The Outer Worlds video game by Obsidian Entertainment. Alien sounds for game audio mean creating sounds from scratch, because there are no experiential references. The sound design team has to be very inventive, in this case using foley sounds like a dog toy and office hole punch, with processed recordings of birds. The video highlights how Nuendo is used to assemble and process the sound recordings, providing enough variations to keep the attention of players involved with The Outer Worlds, an essential element of all video games.
We hope you find this video entertaining and useful. If you like what you see, please leave a comment and tell us what you think. Thank you.

I recorded this particular prop sound with a Sanken CO-100K microphone. It captures many frequencies above the range of human hearing that can help preserve the fidelity of a sound when drastically pitching/slowing recordings down.

This very basic level of editing.. can be done in every DAW on the market.

That's the beauty of it, it doesn't need to be complex for it to deliver a good impact and can be accessible to indie devs too
