  • Lindy Hop is one of the most physically demanding partner dances we know.
Preparing our body for our dancing activity, by warming up before the dance and by training our body on a regular basis - will make our movement quality better, allow better range of motion, will allow us to progress further in the dance - and above all - will help to prevent injuries and keep us safe.
In this class, I assembled exercises that could be used to prepare our body for Lindy Hop. These exercises are based on Functional Training theory, and also take elements from Pilates, Martial Arts, Ballet and more - and adjust them according to the movements we use most in Lindy Hop.
The idea is to look at the body as the tool we use to produce movement.
Doing complex movements in our dance sometimes involves compensation. The body is a smart machine, and it does whatever it can to "achieve" a movement. If one part is weak - it will overload other parts (muscles, joints, etc) - to achieve the movement we want. By doing more of the same - we won't necessarily achieve better movement quality - and we may injure ourselves in some cases.
On the other hand, working only on one muscle every time won't always help us to achieve the movement that we seek for as movement always consists of groups of muscles working together.
Functional Training movement patterns, make it easier for us to work on all the movement elements we use in our dancing, and on all the muscle chains and groups we use in the complex movements - by breaking down the complex movement into a simpler ones. That allows us to obtain correct movement in the basic movements, not overloading and not compensating - and then we can combine them back together again, by doing the complex movement - which will become better and more efficient.
