The Swivel is the iconic movement that the Follow makes while in open position during the dance. Most often the swivel is taught on counts 1 and 2 of the Swingout.
In this short lesson I will take you through an exercise to help you clean up your swivels, strengthen your balance and coordination and understand the rotation that is needed through the shoulders all the way down to the feet.
This is an example of the types of lessons Michael and I have in our online Swing School. You can study with me online like this at our online school here: michaelandevita.com/membership

OMG, you just solved a conundrum for me. I dance a lot of swing, ballroom, and Argentine Tango. Your comment about the wide/legs-apart swivel made my jaw drop. That's what I've seen on all the local Lindy dance floors (and many videos) and so I thought that's how it was supposed to be done, but I always felt awkward and uncoordinated doing it, so I avoided it. But your exercise for practicing swivels is very similar to the one use for practicing ochos in Argentine Tango, so I immediately related. Easy peasy! I'm going to totally change the way I approach swivels. Can't wait to try it with partner once we're past COVID-19 and can go out dancing again.
BTW -- the split screen is *very* effective for teaching. And thank you for having good sound!!

Wow. Nice dance tutorial. I am not a dancer though but we metal drummers also use swivel technique like that too for fast feet on the pedal. Heel toe technique for drummers also is based on a dance move called tap dancing.

... except for the fact that she steps with the opposite foot, e.g. with the right foot to the right side.
In the ocho, the follower steps with the left foot to the right side.
