I have a HTS MK2 3600 I cant even remember what year it was when I bought it, and I also have a Monster clean power bar HTS 1000 and it's even older than my HTS MK2 3600 they both still work beautifully. Considered picking up a 5100 BUT NOT after your video. YOU HAVE BEEN MOST HELPFUL THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!
That same problem just happened to me. Yesterday everything was working normally, this morning my wife felt that something smelled like burning, and then I realized that the HTS was totally out of operation.
I guess that is why Monster Power no longer makes them and why they are no longer the juggernaut they once were. I had a HDP 2500 go south on me by triggering overvoltage protection even though the voltage was stable and in acceptable ranges. I am of the opinion that this type of protection power/ conditioner should NEVER fail.
I have the hts 3600 Mll for 6 years now still working fine. I think if you got a good one you were good but if you got a bad one they would go down after a couple of years. Something to remember I don't know about you but if your in an area we're they have power problems you could get a surge when your not home and not even know about it and after about 3 surges there pretty much shot. I did move it one time and unplugged it and it took about 10 min to power up I think because it's checking all the lines for clean power and when it senses it then it powers up I thought I had ruined it but like I said after a bit it just came on and been fine for last 5 years since I moved it but total on time 6 years....I paid 100 bucks used for it...
My dad has had a HTS5000 for 16 years other than the light going burned out on the analog needle display has never had a problem with his, this pretty interesting you've had all these problems.
I do live in a rural area where all the powerlines are above ground. They take a lot of lightning strikes, and we have a lot of power surges. That said, there are a lot of reports of the HTS5100 having failures. Including a friend of mine who lives in the suburbs. Also I have an HTS1600 that is 16 years old, and has never failed.
@@theheadphoneexperience-wil2250 I live in a very old city "for the west coast" it's the same situation here, we have a lot of power outages, my dad lives in a newer city where all the line run under ground, so I can see how that would be a part of it, still sucks get a Panamax or a Furman to replace it with
Thanks for this ,and yes I'm having a different problem with mine,My 5100 is clipping after about half hour of using it, So after it happened numerous times I took a chance and bought one off of eBay this one is the 3600,Well it looked new I hooked it up and it's running fine except it voltage is between 130-132, So I checked the back outlets and they all read 119-120 volts , So dam I don't know what to freaking do , I think time to just hunt for another new conditioner but definitely not a Monster, Thanks again 👍🔊
Own 3 of the older versions with turquoise blue light and 1 Panamax. $55, $70 and $125 is what I paid (Panamax a bit more money). These Monster Power seemed to have gotten worse and worse in time with Mfg. The one that was $125 was a newer one with round turquoise light and every time I turn it on that damn light flickers but finally stays lite, where my older ones are flawless. The ones like yours (red lights) I will not touch.
I purchsed mine from Ultimate Electronics for the same price over 10 years ago. Mine just went bad yesterday and ran across your video to see what it could be. What I found out is my portable oil heater caused mine to go bad. Once I plugged in the heater I noticed mine started blinking and would no longer works with the switched plugs.
Mine still resides in the box after moving and purchasing a PS Audio P10 rejuvenator sooo...probably just have it looked at or try to get schematic an check some waveforms with the O scope. Thanks for the heads up tho‼️💯 Ps: If you can find um, the ExactPower EP15 was a very good unit (& still being sold on the used market) but needs the 8, 100uf 12 volt caps replaced then good as new for a fraction of it’s original $2700 price tag.
Very interesting video. I just bought a used HTS 3500 MK2 at the thrift store for $60. I opened it up just to see what's inside and everything looks good. I plugged it in and hooked up some AV gear and everything is working fine. I did notice that there is a little light on the plug that goes into the wall that flashes somewhat randomly and at various intensities. Did you unit have this "feature" as well? I'm not sure what the flashes mean (if anything) and if I need to be concerned. Any thoughts? Thanks!
After I did this video I obtained a 3rd MTS5100MKII. It did not work, and I got it for free. I combined number 2 and 3 and ended up with a working unit. It has worked for over 2 years now, and yes the LED on the plug randomly flashes. I do not know why.
@@bigguy1403 After I did a little more research on that little light - it seems that these are some kind of old-school neon light. They do go bad or just stop working after a while. But apparently it's nothing to be concerned about. Just a little light bulb going bad?
@@fishpotpete excatly mine comes on when I first plug it in and then it goes off after 5 seconds but the unit works fine. It's just a led bulb like in those lighted extention cords. They burn out to but continue to work just fine.

Is it possible for you to pay them with a special cheque that recalls the funds back after 4 years? You would get your money back from the company you bought your stuff from. If they complained about the recalled funds, you could issue a second and final 4-years cheque, but they would need to pay a few dozen bucks for postage. After those second 4 years, the money would get back to you again and for good.
You are paying more money for their name. I have a Belkin model that I paid 1/3 of the cost and it gives better quality. Monster is garbage and I would never use it. Mass produced and low quality control. lol for a Belkinmodel that suits you. Mine has been running continuously since 2005 for my home entertainment set up. I have the 12+1. Excellent product!!,
Yes, i run a Belkin Pure AV PF-60 in silver that i paid $350 for brand new and that was 12 years ago! Awesome unit that has performed flawlessly for me. Not one single issue. Also, a very nice looking piece of equipment in a nice machined aluminum cabinet with a nice blue readout which shows the voltage corrections and the status of all switched and unswitched outlets, and a power cord the size of a garden hose it's built like a tank. Wish they still made these new, but they no longer make them.
You don't know what you're talking about. Monster doesn't actually make these conditioners. They have been designed by a well respected company and the fact some people have had them for many years speaks volumes. The nature of these devices operating under who knows what conditions, makes it impossible to determine the fault. The fact this guy has lightning strikes that blow up equipment speaks volumes. Get the house grounded properly with additional protection (possibly whole house protection at panel).
So your mad because they wouldn’t fix or replace your unit well after the 5 year warranty was up? First, no company does that. Second, I have a hts 3600, over 10 years old, still works fine. Last, $600 for a power conditioner is cheap! Go price an audioquest unit like the Niagra 7000
I have a HTS 1600 that works fine after 18 years. The point is that Monster knew there was a problem with the HTS5100 and did not address it. I had 2 go down with the exact same issue, and many others had the same problem. There should have been a recall, and all units repaired, regardless of age.

Sorry you've had problems with it. I've always had luck with APC products.
