David, if you did not enlist as Airborne, they do often ask for volunteers in BCT depending upon available training slots. You can always request the training later in your career from your Command as well. Soldiers who enlist with Airborne or get a training slot during BCT will typically go right after AIT. (CEH)

I would not recommend bringing any more than you will need for the time it takes to travel. You will be given clothing to wear when you arrive at training, and you will have to carry all of your belongings with you so the less you bring the less you carry! (kp)
Joshua, you will have a pay advance on a stored value card given to you in Reception, and you will be able to purchase everything you need at the PX before BCT starts. You will be issued PT uniforms, and glasses (if needed) by the Army, I would not recommend spending your personal money on additional sets. (CEH)

Sorry was being a smart aleck, anyway my real question isn't about the packing but was about the airbourne units. I wanted to know as to whether or not you could go straight into jump school after basic?

Armando Rios it all depends on training vacancies and certain MOS's only go to certain installations. For example, Infantry and Tankers go to Fort Benning, GA. You'll either go to Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Fort Benning, GA, or Fort Sill, OK. (JQ)
Can we carry on disposable razors?
Why can't we bring electric shavors. If I put a razor to my face it will burn and leve terrible razor bumps. My electric shavors give me a close shave just like a razor minus the razor bumps
James Fields Unfortunately you can not bring an electric shaver to BCT, however, if you get razor bumps from a regular razor just let your Drill Sergeants know and you may be able to get a shaving profile. If you received a shaving profile you'd be able allowed to use an electric shaver. (JQ)

I was wondering about what happens to unauthorized item? I am planing on bringing two college books and my ipad to prepare for future courses after AIT what will happen to them?
Ralph, you will not be allowed these personal items during BCT. In AIT, your personal freedoms will be at your Command's discretion. I would recommend waiting until you report to your first Duty Station to bring these items with you. (CEH)

Ok so if I live on Michigan and my training location is in Georgia, how will I get there? Will I take a bus with other recruits, or will I have to go on a plane because I dont like planes.
You will fly to your BCT location and the Army will pay for it. (KJS)
If you don't like planes don't join the army you will spend a lot of time on them

So I can't get air born in my contract because of a broken wrist I got a year ago what are the chances I can get it in basic I will be going in as a 91s

I can go to air born I just can't get it in my contract cause you can't get any schools in your contract if you need a waiver to get in
It's just as good as it was before maybe better cause I really worked at it but it still requires a wavier cause of the scares and the metal
