    Pretty solid idea especially with the notches so you can slide the dividers how you want them. Great video to show if you can’t find exactly what you need then you can probably make it for cheap and fit your exact needs. One tip I would add is get some colored electric tape or cable labels and make it so you know what colors go to what cables. Red is usbc/usbc Blue is UsbA /usbc and so fourth

    Wow this was awesome. My husband and I are electronics nerds. We've always keep our cables and accessories since the 80s. He has one of those plastic three drawer cabinets and it was busting out with wires and cables. So I followed your tutorial and made him one of these. He loves it and it's so nice now. It was fun to make. Well now I need to do the same for my cabinets and all my flash drives, cables etc.

    Do you find after using it for a while that the design still worked for you? Or did you make a modification?

    • @BrianMorettiTV
      @BrianMorettiTV  2 роки тому

      Great question. I did change the design after a while. The foam board was too thick for the size of the drawer and the amount of it I used. Took up too much space. Now I use the lids from small electronics boxes, like the size of iPhone boxes. I’m able to fit much more in the drawer while keeping things separated. If you don’t have enough small boxes, I’d look for sheets of thin craft foam.

    Just a tip. next time cutting in notches if you cut 1/2 up on one and 1/2 on the intersecting pieces then both long strips and short strips will be stronger (and interlock so the divider intersections will be flush).
    At intersections one piece with grooves cut down (V) and on the other intersection, cut notches groves up (^) so they will slide together and the slot slots will meet in the middle giving you a stronger cross shelf piece and flush ends
    Good video though.
    I have a couple buns of many MANY cables so this tip (though great) will not work in my case. Thanks for the share though!
    (and yes. Women do have a lot of junk in their make-p and morning "put-me-together" drawers. Fascinating what they have to have).

    • @williamrgrant
      @williamrgrant 3 роки тому +4

      This would be a more secure way if you know for certain the bin sizes you need ahead of time.
      Brian's way allows for sliding the dividers at any later time so you can adjust the bin sizes as your needs change.
      Good tip though.

  • @kevineleven5610

    Thankyou. Watching you has sparked an idea. I have 6 or so 20cm adaptor cables for small appliances and each I fold into loops with the plugs pointing down to reduce the amount of dust collecting inside the plugs ( I clean these with a shaved toothpick and a denture brush. Yucky ). So standing up they're about 5 mm thick and 45 mm wide and 80mm tall ..so I've adapted your idea into a small container 5cm X 10cm X 8cm you must leave room for the plugs not being flat as this makes it harder to get in and out easily. Thankyou for the inspiration. 🤔 PS feel free to make this your own video version I've got no problem with that. Remember plugs pointing down.. Kev

    Nice idea. Nut fr cables I have 20 to 100 of each so this is too small a system. I must metal open wire shelving units on wheels and use the plastic lid containers from the dollar store plus containers from HomeSense and some from staples. to hold cables. Each box gets a label indicating a geographic location in my case 6E2 may apartment designator (I also have an office and a storage unit that get used for this too) then a cable type USB, RG7, C5E, C6- or C6E, and then a length 005,010,100, etc. I then log each box in a spreadsheet along with a shelf designator R1S02H03 Rack 1 shelf 2 horizontal position three. the box code a description of the box and a count of the cables. I also log if they have been accessed this year. If not they get moved to my storage unit. In total, I have over 480 boxes of cables with over 300 cables and another 200 accessories. I adapted this system from the last place where I worked where we had over 1000 different bins in the buildings and five rooms. At the end of the year, I remove cables from the boxes in the storage unit until I am down to two of each cable. One to use for myself and one to use with someone else or to give away.

    What do I do when I have 10× that amount of cables and plugs and what nots my boyfriend loves to take things apart and put it back together plus he loves messing with a whole sort of different electronics, so I have a lot of the a duffle bag plus a rubber maid bin full but their always getting tangled and then their all over the place. I've tried tying them up but it always happens that the one he's always looking for is at the bottom so we either have to take them all out which takes forever because even though I've tyied them all up their still tangled then when he finds the one he wants he doesn't put them back but leaves them spilled all over the floor so then I'm stuck cleaning them up. I've done this so much I've threaten the next time I'm throwing them away. I know he loves what he does and I really don't want to throw them away but I'm about to if I can't fix this problem. Any solutions cause I am going to start throwing them away if I can't find a way to make this work it crazy. It's like the duffle bag and bin threw up all over the floor spaghetti dinner. I'm losing it 🤪. Please help 🙏.
