One of the better episodes I've seen from these guys. Their dialogue is becoming more natural.
I was one of the people who said that the presenters are trying too hard to be cool and they need to be more natural and now I am happy that they are becoming better and better. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Hi guys great show, please leave a manual more power for towing.
One word: Allison
Exactly that I was thinking keep the manual. Allison 🤔🤔 Still a automatic
A 5 spd and 2 spd axle would be the way to go
Make it automatic
the SM465 would out tow that POS automatic 10-1
Might be a good idea to back in the junk yard and see if you can find another chassis and i like the idea of keeping it manual instead.
That’s what we all are saying, go manual, especially pulling heavy weight
I felt the entire internet sigh with disappointment when you said you were swapping in an automatic. I mean I get it... But c'mon man! Keep that manual!
It'll just be too difficult to repair this section with the radius.. So rather than repair what we have using the existing frame as a template and to keep it all square we're going to fabricate an entire new back half from scratch using C channel!.. Complete with even more radius's LOL
RIGHT! Just ruined this episode
Keep the manual trans, learn how to drive one. Fix the chassid, get it blasted, then fix it.
Bends the hood in half, blames the hood.
Everyone knows you check the hinges on any c/k body before you try to taco the hood like they just did 😂
Yup, just like that's a 74, not a 77. These guys dont know a whole lot about these trucks.
Looked like it'd already been tweaked before they got there. A number of the 70's Chevy's I've seen (that weren't restored) had messed up hoods. Common problem, we used to joke about it in high school, and these pickups weren't even 20 years old then..
Keeping the manual transmission would have been cooler.
It would be Super Cool!!!!
No doubt, especially pulling any kind of weight
Actually a Cummins would be the hot ticket, with a 5 and 2
@@deborahchesser7375 I have an 86 I put a 12 valve cummins with 5 speed in
Best episode you guys have made. This is the kind of real world stuff I like to see. I have seen enough big power builds that frankly I'll never have a budget for. Also keep the manual trans!!
Keep the MANUAL transmission!!! Automatics are rubbish for a truck like that! Thank God it came with a manual dont convert it to junk automatic!
@Leo Coffy thats my point! I love manuals and to find one like that especially a wrecker, that is junkyard gold except for the rusted chassis. Manuals are so fun to drive. My point is that keep the honour of the manual not convert a manual to an automatic, for me thats ridicolous! Butttt...
@Jack Russelle Lewis Allison is pretty tough.
6L80 beats the hell out of any manual
SM465 granny low equals 💕.
Be sweet to see frame, suspension powertrain engine bay all new and restored and interior fully restored only thing left old is outside of body
I love that classic tow setup. I hope you guys keep that on it! Believe it or not, I drove a tow truck just like that back in the mid-1980's lol
I love that their intro is a ruined Camero and blazer, the single divorced dad car of the century
Great progress! Can't wait to see this one finished.
I swear the way they record these looks like nostalgia from the early-2000s. when Automotive & car shows actually was worth a DAMN. Y'all stacy david guys know what i mean.
Yep
I wonder how long it took their mechanic to actually get it running.
Yeah. That truck hadn't been setting very long. Poured the gas straight into the tank without any worry at all. Every other show on YT they avoid using the tank until they can clean the rust and varnish out of it.
Great show hope you guys keep up with this build will be really cool!
It looks like the frame is just about patina'ed in two.
That was the biggest down side of those 73-79 trucks, they rotted away.
Y'all should totally restore that old tow truck!!! It's cool, I wouldn't get rid of it. You don't see many of those anymore!! 😁
Perfect project
What a rust bucket. Pretty fitting to see a FORD tow a Chevy
That's strange it's usually the opposite, atleast the Chevy runs and drives after sitting for years. If it was a Ford it wouldn't of started.
Its not rust. It's patina. Which morons pay extra for.
Excellent video also keep posted them up and I look forward watching to !
Why do you always want to swap in a deadful automatic? Manual is a lot better
i want to see a 12 valve in there with a nv5600
Manual transmission is a lot funner and cool, but in the long run auto transmission is more efficient. Now I’m sure they’re just going to tow for fun so a manual transmission would be better.
@@ralladoastalamuerte If it was going to be an actual tow truck used everyday then automatic but since its gonna be just for show a manual brings more cool points
I hate stick shifts!! I've converted tons of classics to auto for just that reason!! Nothing fun to me about all that constant moving!!
These guys are staying way too clean to be working on an old rusted truck like this.
It’s rusty, not greasy.
@@ralladoastalamuerte Apparently you've never worked on anything rusty.
maybe its like those scripted storage shows where they add stuff in for dramatic effect. I mean didn't check the plugs?
@@ralladoastalamuerte rust wipes off on everything.
@@T10Titan You’re right about that. I’m from Texas, so when I deal with vehicle down here it’s mainly grease and oil. So I’d say about 95-98% of the time anything on my arms, face, and clothes is oil and grease.
Lol that reminded me of christine when Artie first seen Christine and it even sounded the exact same way lol
Good job buddy's take care good luck
Awesome project.
Yay, the guys are more mellow and enjoyable to watch. Now I can enjoy the episode and not be irritated by the hosts.
You can't run a automatic if your going to run the same back wrecker body! Its made for clutch with PTO!
Correct
Electric over hydraulic is the cheap and easy way out
Being that this wrecker uses a single winch, the PTO winch could be swapped out for a large capacity electric winch.
@@browneye6000 you can keep that junk. PTO will lift ANYTHING I, fast too. Electric over hydraulic is slow.
@@shawnbauman5463 Burn up pumps or motors!
Enjoyed the video!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Cool that you guys are in middle Tennessee!! Me too:-) excellent experience also.
Nice find. I recently found and purchased a 86 c30 wrecker with the holmes 1100 single line hydraulic bed with a manual wheel lift add-on. Old wreckers are getting hard to find but still desirable
Love that tow truck! I want one!
A couple different hosts and this would be a great show! I’ve seen some great hosts in the power nation lineup and maybe these guys can step it up this season
I like this build. I'm sure it'll be great.
Yeah you have to keep it a manual guys like that ole square body had a 82 just like that one in our yard
This one’s going to be fun!
Nice show
Big improvement with dialogue and project!
I hope they keep it as a tow truck
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build . Will you be doing the build on you tube?cause I really don't want to miss it for sure
That's awesome! I'd love to find an old recker like that. Actually I would like 1 of them and turn it into an old ramp car hauler and have 1 of each.
Here at Futureline in IA we build truck bodies and accessories, cants say I've built a tow truck yet though. Its good to see a cool work truck getting a second life.
A guy would be impressed that it runs!
Vise grip haha
"On this episide, the Carcass guys listen to fans and look for a new barber!!"
This one is both fun and painful. Like an idiot, I sold my 1978 454 big block 3/4 ton PU back in 2009, and now am kicking myself for selling it just because of the "cab rust" nothing major. Could have greased it all up, covered it and stored it. Oh, and as for the automatic, I had the TH400 with shift kit, and it is way better than any pot stir stick. Look forward to this one! Thanks.
Good luck 👍
You guys have managed to offend me TWICE in the first 3min😄 Still, nice to see old vehicles being saved.
I am liking this type of project for this show much better than other projects. I hope to see more scrapyard rescues. Also, the guys seemed to have calmed down and aren't yelling at the camera anymore. If I want to watch a show with the hosts constantly yelling, I'll set down and watch youtube with my 8-year-old.
Should leave the manual transmission
Imagine making this truck a drag truck. Keep the wrecker body on it. That would be cool tbh
I owned a chevy tow truck almost identical to that one until about seven or so years behind me. I musta towed five hundred rigs with it and set buildings in order.... handiest thing I ever had for a old truck.... would of liked to see it go back like it was but knowing how much different things are now.... no more pto driven winches or pumps.... can't do this without hurting someones feelings. I am sure it will be ever so nice when done and the old ladder truss wrecker bed will only be a small portion of what it was before
Isn’t that a 73-74 front grill and not a 77?
That's what I was thinking
Yea it is and looking at the door panels it leads me to believe it's actually a 73-75
Espectacular 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
I would just like to see this project all the way to completion, i'm still waiting on Stacy David to finish Heavy Metal........
i so want a tow truck more than ever now. sounds just like my 85 gmc
They always go automatic transmission!
In a work truck, no. Manual is the only way to go
Good pick, wish i could a dodge like that
I believe that tow truck is a 1974 year model because it has a 1973-74 grille, headlight bezels, & front blinker lenses & the emblem on the passenger side dash says Custom which 1974 was the last year for that package & the new Custom Deluxe package replaced it in 1975. 1974 was also the first year for the drip molding trim above the doorways on the exterior. The front blinker lenses below the headlights on 1973-74 year models are orange, 1975 & up are clear.
Yeah the Fords aren't what we're looking for but this truck with a rotted frame is perfect
Most of the shows on powernation are so heavily scripted that the hosts seem to fake and come off as corporate tools while they casually plug corporate sponsors. This show is how it should be. Minimal script, let'em work and yes we can see that the battery came from O'riellys no need to tell is too.
A much better episode. Way more natural. There may be hope for these two after all.
I see the Nader bends in the hood.
You should really keep the manual trans, them sm465 can take all sorts if abuse and work
I actually live in Columbia Tn and have been to Bobby Whites several times.
That's why I use a scrap bit of right angle 25×25 to run my oxy along for straight cuts...
He's surprised the new carb idles?
Awesome project but you gotta keep the stick.
Actually...the torch heats the steel to its kindling temperature, then when you squeeze the lever the additional O2 burns the steel. Nothing like was stated like some kind of fact.
It may be a ‘77 but it’s got a grill from a ‘73 or ‘74, which i think is the best looking grill from that generation chevy.
I want it!!!
My grandpa had one just like it
Looks like the wrecker my grandfather built here in Alabama..just like it
Nice
I can't believe someone scrapped it with the near perfect looking bumper guards. Those are worth money if original!
I think we all would love if you guys did a square body dully 3x3 square body
My dad has one for sale by the Pittsburgh area it’s pretty clean
Comes with a 454 four speed
It's where all Chevy's should be quietly rusting in peace!!!!!
Mine isn't. It somehow, with a 305, out ran a 2015 camaro
Like A Rock
I take that in a min... always need wrecker, especially when your working on scrap//
If your going to cut the frame it is best to use a step cut. The best place to use a step cut is under the cab where the frame is straight, this will spread the weld out enough where you don’t have to worry about cracking.
Find me a square truck frame runs good hey pick up one for me I'm trying to find one of Youngstown Ohio I love to get back in the mudding and I love those square frame trucks
Y’all better be careful out there. It is rattlesnake heaven. Been there my whole life.
What?! they didn't have the ballz to drive this home? Well maybe one day these guys will come up to the level of UA-camrs doing this and driving them home.
Was a good hood
Keep the manual transmission!!!
If they would just get a 1985 CUCV M1008 chevy frame. It's already automatic, reinforced one ton frame and a standard square body .
I have one. Wish I had a 383 to put between the frame rails tho, instead of my rubbish 305.
This was actually nice... Great show! BTW, how much for that rear axle and transmission?! 🤔💰
Exactly, I'll take the 14 bolt or SM 465 off their hands.
I'd like to see 'em do this in a one car garage.
Need to keep the manual transmission. The winch runs off the PTO. An automatic will not run a PTO. With no PTO you will need to replace the winch with an electric winch.
I cant believe theres actually junkyards with cars over 30 years. Literally dont see anything older then that let alone usable here in new england
you can always take the scrap yard dog outta the scrap yard, but you can never take the scrap yard outta the dog.
i was wondering if ya ever heard of swap meets?
best of luck jimmy!
Not going to lie this truck looks oddly convenient
Keep the stick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like Eric Holmes wrecking gear.
The old dude is handsome
Does TN allow you to pull a vehicle out of the scrapyard and register it? I need to move there if so!
I always love these america trucks. Too bad i'm in Vietnam.
Hard to beat a good ol
GM
Big Block, Allison, and 4 wheel drive.
So going to the 700R4 I’m guessing the wrecker bed is now for looks? There isn’t a place on the 700 to bolt on a PTO pump. Maybe they’ll go some other electric over hydraulic system to run the boom and winch. I hope it isn’t just a poser now. I still like the project.
