There are actually decent cheap options out there, you can get thermal for under $500 USD, they won't be weapon mounted or anything like that but you can see 300 to 500 yards.(500 is pushing it). Just because it's not meant to be mounted doesn't mean you can't buy the attachment off of Amazon and get a little creative with a dremel and some JB Weld.

No argument there, PFN640 does perform better. Crisper image, better red hot(my fav) and probably more durable(have yet to break a YM tho). It does cost just a bit more and it not as user friendly, YM has most functions you want fast access to(zoom, color palette, etc) just a button combination away, with PFN you need to surf the menu for those.

As for the price, I see it as if you are already spending thousands of dollars on something, a few thousand more to be happy with is worth it for me. That Steiner C35 Gen2 doesn’t look like it’s rail mountable. Only for direct attachment to large objective scopes. If so, that’s going to really limit it’s use, and won’t really fall into the same category as other small multi-role thermals

Guys.. could you make some video test or at least some short about driving a car/vehicle with NVG and Thermal? I know that thermal doesn't work through glass, so driving a light-less car with full windscreen wouldn't be possible. But as far as I know in some cars the glass also doesn't pass some part of infrared spectrum of light (e.g. Seat). It wpuld be great to see a video showing how NVG works in civilian cars.

No because the battery compartment is mounted on it longitudinally, like old eotechs the battery compartments were then made that way then they changed it to latitudinally on the latest models because MK17's were breaking the older models, the only thermals that I can find that have a battery compartment that is mounted on the optic latitudinally are mil/le FLIR's, in terms of clip-on's, but also I think infiray makes better thermals than FLIR and also another thing to consider is that thermals are basically a digital camera so them being mounted on any caliber they probably will eventually be shaked apart.
You guys seem to have the best information about the "Jerry YM 2.0".. Is there a smartphone app for it? What is the current software version for it, and how would I update to it if there was one? There isn't much information about this device on the internet.
Regarding the much brighter heat signatures of the RH25 seen in this comparison, can the Jerry YM be adjusted to look the same by boosting the contrast? If you were to also boost the contrast of the RH25, does it then outperform the Jerry YM again?
That's what I was wondering during the comparison. Looked like all he needed to do was boost up the contrast a bit and it would be just as good as the pfalson/rh25. Sometimes I get the sense reviewers intentionally do this so they don't affect the sales of their "higher end" units that have more profit margins $$$.
The US has the Rix Stride. It is exactly the same but it's not marketed as a clip on. It also seems to use an older software version. Is the Jerry YM version 2 a separate device from version 1 or was it a firmware update? I desperately need this software version! A red value would be amazing. Currently, it just puts the red value in the middle and can't be changed so it's useless. Also I only have 1-5 on contrast and brightness. 1-10 would be game changing!

There's either a disconnect between China and Rix customer service, or they're intentionally slow rolling and misdirecting to wait out the AGM StingIR licensing rights to Irays clip on features in the US market. If they're not transparent about it, then assume the worst. I regret purchasing this product.

I used an IR scope once and animals showed up as clear black silhouettes, is this because the IR camera was still picking up the heat signiature just in black and white? If so i might just opt for a way cheaper IR scope
The Jerry is better. Just because of the one but most important setting. The Collimation setting! You can Collimate the image perfectly to your PVS-14. This means the image is aligned. You can merge the image without eye fatigue.
Does it have the intrusive user interfaces icons like the original JYM? Nothing worse than seeing "WHITE" take up the bottom corner of the screen. It looks clean on the video but figured it could be from the recording or cropped.

The image processing on the Jerry-YM seems to be better than the sidekick. The specs look the same but with thermals specs are not the only things that matter. We pick this over the Sidekick any day. What you see through the device and what the video recording looks like are a bit different, it does not look grey and it is a bit better clarity and quality.

Each thermal device will have its own individual specs for what it's rated for , although 308 specifically is known for destroying electronics.

We tested several different setting on both, the image is still more crisp on the PFN

It does not appear in the recording, it is visible when looking through the device however.

You need to manually adjust focus, not aware of any thermal that has autofocus.

Yes it is. We have QD adapters for both thermals. Both adapters work with same bridge and flip to side mount dovetail.
