    Fukuro-obi
    This is the standard belt, the most representative type woven from dyed thread and silver and gold thread, and worn for formal occasions to accompany the kuro-montsuki, tomesode, furisode, or iro-muji kimono. In contrast, fukuro-obi made from white cloth dyed after construction are more casual and suit the komon and tsumugi types. As a fundamental guideline it is helpful to think of obi with patterns woven from coloured thread as more formal and those with patterns dyed onto the fabric as more casual.
    Maeita
    Worn on the outside of the kimono, this wraps around one's trunk sandwiched in between the belts to prevent wrinkles in the obi.
    Koshihimo(kimono cord)
    Small ropes to secure the kimono and juban.
    Obi-makura
    This hard pillow is used when the obi is fastened in the otaiko style. Some ways of tying the obi do not require an obimakura, but it is necessary if one wishes to maintain the back's elegant curve line, or 'otaiko', which this style requires.
    Obi-age
    This item secures the obimakura to the wearer's back. The obiage is wrapped around the pillow and tied securely at the front. As a sliver of the obiage will naturally be visible at the front of the wearer's body, this should be considered an essential point of fashion. A wide variety of colours and styles can be enjoyed.
    Obi-jime
    This is a composite silk belt designed to retain the shape of the obi. Like the obiage, its style is an important consideration when coordinating one's ensemble.

    I see myself failing, but once I get all the parts I shall practice like crazy. I ordered myself a rosé coloured iromuji kimono and a simple moss green fukuro obi the other day. I really hope these two fit together well. I will come back to this video to tie the obi when it arrives!

    This video is REALLY helpful. I didn't know you could tie this knot on the front as well. I never could do it on the back by myself. thank you very much.

    Thank you very much for your series, it's really helpful.
    I have another question. Is the fukuro-obi restricted to married women?

    • @wasoukan
      @wasoukan  7 років тому +3

      Fukuro-obi is worn both formal and informal occasions, and for women whose marriage status does not matter at all.

    Thank you very much. Please include how to fold a maru obi. Thank you.

      +OrenjiOrange A maru obi works the same as a fukuro obi. The main difference is that a maru obi has a full pattern covering the whole obi, while a fukuro obi only has a pattern on the part of the obi that shows.

    how do you breathe when in kimono? (serious question) like everytime i wear it i feel like passing out any suggestions?

      Really? D: Gosh, you might have a problem then. Haven't you asked to a doctor yet?

    • @toza4693
      @toza4693 6 років тому +3

      You might be tying everything too tightly. The koshihimo, datejime, and obi need to be tied tightly to avoid it falling apart, but not so tight that it's hard to breathe.

    帯を前で結ぶ方式はかなり便利で外国での評判も良さそうですね(*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡ところで、「お太鼓」というと「大人の帯結び」というイメージが有るのですが実際は何歳位から結ぶのが良さそうでしょうか?

    • @wasoukan
      @wasoukan  5 років тому +1

      コメントいただきましてありがとうございます!明確な線引きは難しいですね。。。10代、20代前半でもお茶席ではお太鼓が望ましい場合もありますし、年齢というより、着用場面によってケースバイケース、といったところでしょうか。

      @@wasoukan ありがとうございます(⌒▽⌒)「ママ訪」の場合も茶席など、落ち着きが求められる場合は二重太鼓、華やかさが求められる場合は振袖と同じ帯結び、というところでしょうか?

    • @wasoukan
      @wasoukan  5 років тому +1

      @@kimonodaisuki 考えてみると、やはり既婚か未婚か、はひとつの線引きかもしれませんね。例えば若いお母様で、七五三で飾り結びされている方など見かけますが、お祝い事といえど七五三の主役はお子様なので、立場的にお太鼓がふさわしいかな…と思います。結婚式の二次会など、華やかな場では飾り結びで良いと思います。

    I never understood why the obi needs to be so long. It is like you want to add volume to your waist even though a narrower waist is more beautiful! I

    japanese people... why are you making your life so hard...?
    tired this for over 2 hours now- sadly I don't have clips. I'm sweating like crazy and can't bind this damn Obi -.-

      It is difficult even for Japanese who are beginners.
      Just like corset and high heels, it is difficult at first but as you get used it would become easier and you would be able to wear it beautifully. Hope you continue practicing and good luck!
