Hey! Were you able to track where the car came from? When I was 16 my parents bought me a new 1987 Grand National in Tampa, Florida. I kept it for 10 years and it had right around 100,000 miles when I sold it. Since it has over 100,000 miles I am just wondering by chance this one could have possible been mine at one point!
I was told by Pull A Part that it was turned into their Louisiana yard. I am not sure which one. There was some owner info in the glove box so email me and I can give you the details. classicgbodygarage@gmail.com
The loose bolts, nice surprise considering the alternative. Still pretty odd hahaha. Methodically putting this back together for a baseline is such a pro move.

Why are you happy that the piston rings are the issue instead of valve seals? Piston ring replacement is much more labor intensive than ring replacement. Also you didn't mention how your going to fix the low compression, are you going to replace the rings?
Will pull the motor apart if I have to and replace rings and anything else needed. Will do it right, just want to see how well it runs as is. The rings could be stuck due to sitting and it may or may not get better.

you'd rather have low compression due to worn piston rings than needing head work? why? heads are easier to fix.
