Dune Part 2 - NO SPOILERS - Its BAD & WOKE! Also...Woke & Awesome YET...

- Like Tommy said YOU ARE TEARING ME APART! D2 manages to be great, bad, awful, stupid, aweinspiring, unfaithful, respectful, pro-fan, auteurist, and very sell-outish. A guide through the insanity of Dune Part 2. Let the rage flow!

I think the movies' success is due to the fact that people are so hungry for something non super hero, non cringe comedy action sci fest, rather than the movies quality.
Zendaya is not a character actor. They should have hired an actor, not a celebrity.
Spoiler : Part 2 ending with Zendaya with angry face waiting for a worm ride left a really bad taste. What, she is somehow a more important character than Muad'Dib?
Its a shift in perspective to show that Paul is not a true hero, which is explored in Dune Messiah
@@nigelbaddock Paul Muad'Dib IS a tragic hero of the story. He is not a hero, but main protagonist because for all the powers and foresight he had, he was still a slave. He had to choose the unthinkable (to sacrifice billions of people by Jihad) in order for the entire species to win in the big run.
I completely agree with you. It's Villeneuve Dune not Frank Herbert Dune. And not Villeneuve's best movie.
P. S. Someone compared Part 2 with Godfather Part 2, and I facepalmed myself into outer space.
When you look through anti-woke glasses everything you see will seem woke.

BLACK ADAM WAS BETTER?!?! lmfao
That was a bit much but think about it from a story perspective its true.

Awwwww Thomas .. Does somebody need a hug?
This video deserves to be sent to eternal Paradise in the name of Lisan Al Gaib
The emperor is a cameo in the books... Just go and read the books... That being said, Chani is a cameo in the books.. God Emperor is where it's at.
He is NOT a cameo in the books lmao
He's literally a major player - also even Quinn's Ideas criticized Denis on this point and he LOVED the film
@@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184 he is a cameo, he shows up in the end dumbass just like in the movie. go read the book, not the wikipedia summary
It's been a while, but I don't remember the emperor having many lines in the book. You hear about what he does but he's never physically there. Time to read them again I guess.
The Emperor "appears" at the end but he is a MAJOR presence the problem is
Spoiler
Irulan is relating the "history" of events however its clear she's an unreliable narrator
He comes off conflicted and basically a
poor man caught between dilemmas but Irulan could be lying so saying he barely appears is not true but what he was doing is ? Irulan can't be trusted but he was clearly doing things like the Duke-Harkonnen war was occurring
@@GiveItAIDS
The Emperor literally had twice as many lines as he did in the books. This is just ridiculous
It was complete shite. They ruined Paul, they ruined Stilgar, they ruined Chani, they ruined Jessica. They didn't include Paul and Chani's son. Paul's sister is not even born. Visuals and soundtrack were the only good thing.
Woke or not, this is purely a bad dull dreamy boring sequel and I’m gutted I wasted hours of my Sunday watching it.. I really REALLY wanted to like it, it has all the elements of a good sci-fi and sequel but in execution it is just mind numbingly dull rubbish
Guess I would ask if you've read the books
Face palm....
yes
he didn't understand it obviously lmao
ok how?@@heeroheero8844
He mentions he read the books not even a third of the way through. Maybe watch it before commenting on it?
@@heeroheero8844Who, Denis Villeneuve? Yeah j agree, he didn't understand Dune. Assuming he even read it, tbh. At this point I more convinced that he read a reddit summary on r/feminism than reading the book itself.
Black Adam was utter trash so it means a looooooot 😂
It was disappointing, visually great, bought a woke rewrite. I'll stick with the 3 part SciFi and Spicedivers.
I do admire the miniseries but man some of those costumes... hhhmmm...
@@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184 Completely agree, low budget, Eastern European acting, odd costumes, the wiggly guild acting, all that aside much closer to the storyline (some divergence). I was hoping for an improved version given the budget having 2 films, while D1 worked for me, D2 just went off the rails. Spicediver’s is a fan redux/mix of the Lynch version you can find it online.
@@michaelpayne8102 Yes the fidelity was pretty remarkable but even a few details I found a bit distracting - I wonder what Denis is going to do so much was altered its pretty much "his" story now. I did an old review of the miniseries but try to load a new one.
Like the Lynch version, I think the stock in the miniseries will rise - especially that version of the Baron - very amusing and got the essence of the character just right...
I'll go see the matinee tomorrow and hold my nose.
DO NOT pay full price Zendaya can go on a diet of carrots - like she's done for 10 yrs.

RBF Zendaya has a pretty RBF.
The Messiah still looks like a gay French waiter.
Yeah, I was very disappointed at the major plot diversion at the end.
I loved part 1 WAY MORE than part 2... cared about the characters in part 1 WAY more than in part 2...
Part 2 was SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW and LOOOOOOOOONG
I really expected more action because of all the exposition that had been done already in part 1...
somehow I just didn't care much about the characters in part 2.... so many of them are just discarded... So much of what had been built up in part 1 was completly let down in part 2...
You didn't think there was enough action? Interesting certainly Denis changed HOW the action happened....

and yes deliberately getting rid of the mentats. No Count. Alia rearranged. Its very much a what if fan fiction. its well crafted in places but in others places left me scratching my head. I'm surprised so many book readers are being so generous to Denis. Maybe they're just frustrated by other poor adaptations but I can't imagine Herbert would sign off on most of this - it just runs so counter to what he intended imho
be honest. are you saying "Denis V." because foreign words scare you?
Not that you deserve this ... but I'm Hispanic and speak FLUENT spanish so go f---k yourself

@@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184 yes, and therefore a French sounding name is foreign. what's the issue?
wait, i think i got it. you thought "foreign" means "non-english"? :))
@@dextro808guys a joke
Villeneuve makes boring sterile pretentious movies. Just another propped up Hollywood fraud. He doesn't make 'smart', 'profound', 'masterpieces'. He makes BORING shlock with a veneer of artistry. They're basically Marvel movies with a muted color palette and stretched run times, making them even more of a slog. The Arrival sucked, Blade Runner 2049 sucked, and so does Dune. Three for three, and I'm done trying with this director. Everyone pretending he's Stanley Kubrick or something .. It's just hilarious really.
it's your prerogative to be wrong
Videos like these make me wish dislike counts were still visible
Do have any actual substantive points about what I said? I'm just asking...
@@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184 It mainly comes down to this, what do the words woke and feminist mean to you? What do you mean specifically when you call something “woke” or “feminist?” Because it seems to me that many people throw these terms around at just about anything if it involves a strong female character and I want to know specifically what separates a good female character from a “woke” one? Does it just mean a woman who takes charge? Because there are plenty of great female characters who do that and aren’t considered “woke” by many anti woke UA-camrs such as Mikasa, Leia or Casca from Attack on Titan, Star Wars and Berserk respectively for example.
I gave specifics@@offtheshelfET
@@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184 if you’re talking about the video I’m gonna need a time stamp or something because I watched it and I don’t recall you ever doing that. I even scrolled through again to check but all you say is that the film was woke because Zendaya felt too much like Zendaya in the desert, whatever that even means. You don’t give any examples of the film pushing a feminist narrative. You just act as if Zendaya’s inclusion is enough to make this film feminist.
No@@offtheshelfET
At least we finally have a decent movie out after 2 months in this year where only crap has been released.
Can't argue with that - but that's the context of other dumb af superhero/trashy studio films. Denis gets a lot points there. But what about the context of great sci fi books, comics, and cinema - the books, Lynch fans, etc. Feels like they were left a bit off in the cold imho
"decent movie" 🤣😂😅
I will say this; this movie is hell of a better than most of the shit that has been released recently but it's still not good imo.

OK ... can you specify...
Idc whether Dune is woke or not, it is just completely boring, bland and unappealing to me.
Dune is very woke I just feel the novels and Lynch version are more exciting
@@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184 I see.
I totally agree with you..people dont want to disagree with the hype, they're too weak to say their own thoughts against the hype, they dont want to feel alone. Like the movie avenger endgame, it was the worst plot but peope coudnt say they dont like it or else they will be left alone..
Dune part 2 was not a great movie, but a good movie non the less. The TV series is still better than Dune part 2
I respect people who like EG but really the best movie of all time? Head-scratching. Its fine not every film needs to be a 10/10. I dug Dune Part 2 it had sweet moments but some things... hhhmmm...
I like the quality Denis brought - the TV series had book moments which were great but ooooff looked cheap. but many things were done better from Paul to the Baron. The Denis Baron is a bit stale and one-note imho
Yeah it was visually amazing but the changes they made from the source material mostly wasn't for the better. Like Alia or Chani OMG! it affected the beauty of the story. EndGame was successful only because it was the finale of years of universes building, otherwise the story is mostly baad@@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184
Sure the TV series was a low budget project, but it delivered the story better, I really enjoyed it more than any adoption. I understand the new Denis movie is a modern take for new generation who aren't familiar of the book, but man he wasted some good moments from the book @@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184
It's almost as if it's actually a good film? People aren't "lying to fit in" they genuinely like the film because it's a great film.
I’ve watched some of your videos now, and it’s honestly hilarious how much you did not understand from the books or movies.
Your critical thinking and analysis skills are not good. Especially when it comes to what would actually work on the big screen versus a book. I don’t think this business is for you.
Nope, sorry you're wrong. I'm tired of hearing you idiots justify changing everything cause "iT wOuLdN't WoRk On ScReEn VeRsUs BoOk"
It's the most brain-dead take. The Sy-Fy mini series was the most accurate representation of this story on screen that we've had so far. Do you know how long the miniseries was? 55 minutes *SHORTER* than DV's movie. That means he *literally* could have copied the Sy-Fy series frame for frame, used the extra 55 minutes to better explain concepts that needed to be explained for the layman, and then figured out a balance between the two runtimes so that the middle breakpoint happens at a natural stopping point.
If he had done all of that, then he could have created the best adaptation ever. Instead, he wastes so much time lingering on the landscape and drawing scenes out because the dude is terrified of dialogue and story. He should stick to silent films, because he clearly can't tell a complex story. If he had filmed Inception, he would have made a movie with 20 extra minutes of runtime, but the script would have been half as long and the story would have suffered for it.
Take his dick out of your mouth and face the truth.
Dude I couldn't agree more. I couldn't be more disappointed I just got out of the theater. I usually don't go see movies but I was really excited for this after the unicorn that was part 1. How white they made the evil guys is no coincidence. This isn't even dune the story is just made up. Not sure what happened if the studio got involved but the movie was still 50 percent filler. And wow they focused so much on zendaya it was AWFUL!. They used transitions to have magical plot holes appear without explanation using cuts and action scenes. The pacing was awful as well. This is a good movie if you don't know anything about the dune universe. Very disappointed this makes me really feel like I should never have faith in any of these Hollywood rip offs. They dragged this out to advertise a third movie. They rushed the important parts and just ruined alot of the most charming parts of the dune universe. 5 out of 10 I guess. As a dune fane 2 out of 10
Much more harsh than me. I'll try to provide a more balanced picture on my other channel Examining Kubrick. But book fans I think are being far too nice. I guess they don't vibe with the Lynch version or think well this is the best we're going to get. Denis gave us some great moments but really we're decimating too much of the mythos for me to comfortable.
Promise y’all this dude saw Feyd get manipulated by the Bene Gesserit and decided this movie was woke lol, hasn’t touched the books at all and his entire view of Hollywood is decided by political preferences
I love the books, but I hated this movie. It infuriated me. I'm done with Denis Villeneuve. His movies are 💩.
I still have some faith in the future but its very much shaken
I've seen your channel interesting POV I'd love to get your feedback on the Dark Tower and compare that to Dune and if you saw that adaptation
A bit busy now but will try to look at your stuff more in depth but I love Denis although I think the overpraise today is too much
