  • Most gold nugget fields in the Western US and many in Australia have the Hot Rocks & Iron Stones to deal with. In this short video Gerry's Detectors of Boise, Idaho is showing how the new Garrett ATX Extreme Pulse Induction metal detectors can be adjusted to ignore those targets and still find gold. He uses a coin (nickel) as the non ferrous target, since nickels make the same tones as gold nuggets. We'll be sharing more Garrett ATX videos soon and even showing a one of gold nugget recovery from well known and worked out Rye Patch, Nevada.

You are 100% correct and I realize that. But if I start running non-motion right from the get go, then all the folks who are not familiar with these detectors would try to do the same thing and then they get frustrated. Once they learn their detector and become proficient, then it is time to tweak the detector for added depth and sensitivity. So many people are too lazy to try and learn their detectors, so they watch a video and use that setup. Thanks for positive comments.

John, Yes I recommend the same approach at Ground Balancing the detector ( both VLF and PI technologies ). I detected around the Kalgoorlie/Leonora areas a few years back and found some good gold nuggets. Wish you the best and thanks for posting positive comments. Be sure and share my video tips and tricks with your friends and Prospecting Clubs as my education to all is free on UA-cam.

The GB-2 and the Minelab GPX are both fine detectors and I have found pounds of gold with each. But neither unit is waterproof, so when you detect the local rivers, as you stated, those detectors are at risk of flooding with 1 slip. With the features built into the new ATX, you should be able to find both small bits of gold near the surface and larger deeper gold nuggets of more value that are out of reach of most detectors. We are taking deposits now and putting your name on the short list.

If I've never used a pi machine, would a atx be a good one to start with? Been using vlf for a few years now. Was gonna go GPx or atx...

I can hear in both your ATX videos you are using the motion-mode only. (nmm has only one beep). You know the non-motion mode is more sensitive to small nuggets...Have you given that mode a good work out? Good videos Gerry...

great video Gerry, im only running the At Gold for my prospecting , and am usually a coin relic guy using CTX3030,
Would u recommend using the same ground balance technique with the AT Gold?
I have seen your other video on the AT gold, and belive you also GB over the hot rocks in that situation, knowing you are way more knowledgeable than myself, would this work in most environments such as here in Australia?
    thanks again and happy hunting!

This detector looks great. I was ready to purchase a gold bug 2 because the minelab is just a bit steep but now I see this and i'm liking it a lot. Gerry I mainly head out to California High Desert and local rivers, would this suit me? I'm looking to purchase fairly soon

The Garrett ATX might be a great detector for you, but I would need to know more details of what you plan on doing. Since I sell, use train, test and compare many detectors on the market, I have learned the goods/bads/uglies and strong/weak points of many units. Contact me direct when you are ready to purchase and if i can earn your business, we'll certainly get the right detector in your hands.
