What a cool find, and... we always think it will be bigger, ha ha.

What a great looking rock! Never seen anything like that mixed bag of fruit. Plus the added bonus of a bit of gold. I wonder how a nice little piece of gold can become mixed up with such an odd group of friends? Looks like there's one of everything! Thanks Les.

Hi Robbie. It was an old piece of conglomerate that was made up of river stone, fine gravels and clay. That particular spot yielded quite a few small pieces of gold embedded in that type of rock.

When the 2300 makes that sound, like it is confused, always dig it up.
Usually a very nice size nugget.

I have conglomerate like this in my area. The old timers crushed it and removed the gold which usually was stuck in the mudstone that binds it together. In some of the tunnels they have taken off the bottom of the lead and crushed it , as the gold was hard to removed from the mudstone they left alot in their tailings piles.

Detecting in the desert, up on a ridge, looking down below, i see my friend heading fast to the truck with a big rock. I laughed, but sure enough, the rock had a big gold spider inside.

Thanks Pauly. It was a bit like unwrapping a present. You are never quite sure as to what you will find.

Are those a type of gators over your boots? I could sure use a pair of those. Foxtail grasses in the desert southwest of the US find a way into my boots every outing.

Yes they are. We wear snake gators especially during he warmer months. They also provide protection against sharp or spiky undergrowth

Cant see how angular the inclusions in that rock, could be breccia or mudstone. May be part of old stream bed. Maybe a bench, is it continuous above the creek. is there a bench both sides of the creek? Are there mines above it with drives heading toward it?
If there is an old stream bed there or above there, would be good to know strike and dip. Most gold would be found on the bottom side of the rock. Miners used to drive under these benches as they did at monkeys

A little off topic but could you do a tutorial of the silicon mold that you make your wax foundation with? Thanks.

Sorry rain coast. Won’t be making another one. You can now buy them online for about the same price as I could make one.

Pink Salt I don’t want to go down that path. It would involve too much paper work and insurance hassles.
