  • 80% or more of the trikes that come out of our shop have a motor installed on them! Why is that? Who are the people getting these motors on their trikes? In this video Davy takes you through the reasons why people get an electric assist motor on their trike, the people who get them, and what problems a pedal-assist motor can solve for them.

Davy you forgot the touring triker bud, some people tour around the country and world I think that would be a good reason to get a Motor as well

I put a motor on my trike because I got tired of the constant SEVERE cramping pain in my legs after a ride of any appreciable distance. I put a bafang 750 on my terra trike, I love it. I have a throttle on it because it saves my knee. I usually only use it at starts and steep hills. Thinking of putting another motor on either my Ryan vanguard or my tour easy.

I have a 72 Volt HV kit on my recumbent trike because it is heavy, especially with the battery weighing 27 pounds. I have very steep hills in my area, so the motor is a must. I only have one rear gear because with over three thousand watts, gears aren't necessary, and I usually use power level 2 out of 9 unless I'm going uphill, then I might use power level 4. I make an effort to fly under the radar and keep my speed under 20 mph to satisfy the legal aspect but could easily hit 45 + mph.

I found an older sun seeker from a friend and I put a bafang Bbs02 b mid drive motor which works great. Just hit 2500 miles on the motor and still runs strong. Only thing I need is the rear frame and axle assembly with disc brakes on both sides which is hard for me to find for a sun seeker x3ax trike. It has some bad bearings in the frame for the rear axle which also locked up the axle to the bearings prevents me to disassemble for matinance or repair. Love the channel and love to have a quad for casual/commute with high speed for all purpose riding since bicycles and tricycles are my main transport.

Excellent review. My wife and I are on the older side and planning to get our first trikes.
For one your review makes the motor choice easy... it will be a Delta trike with a large rear basket and will be used by her on our leisure/exercise rides and either of us when we go for a quick run to the grocery store. Yeah, I know... Delta... but she does not like the tadpole layout. Leaning towards an Addmotor M-360.
The other is a tadpole for me, mainly for leisure/exercise. Leaning towards a TerraTrike Rambler. This one is tricky. I probably don't need a motor (and the added cost on my first trike) but I wonder... would I be able to add one later, or is the model not suited to it?

Would a class three motor give you more range if you kept your speed down and how does a class three motor vs two or one motor do on torque when say crawling up an off road trail with a Full Fat?

I bought a Belize delta trike found out they can not be ridden like a parakeet so I stretched it 6inches and put a seat down center of gravity and I put a midshipman rickshaw motor but now I don’t have pedals need to put the pedal on the front wheel

I currently have a 5 year old terratrike rambler with 8 speed cassette and front 2 speed set. Normally ride 5-7 miles daily for exercise with about 800 miles for the rear. Considering adding a mid drive for hills etc. . Would you have recommendations for efficiency and cost?

Price wise and for ease of install I would definitely recommend a Bafang mid drive motor. They are easily installed with a kit and offer a throttle and pedal assist. The kit we have used for the rambler before is this listing here - www.utahtrikes.com/PROD-11620440.html -

if it adds that much weight, wouldn't that also mean shorter lives for tires and brakes?
