For many of us who live in a European monarchy and are interested in our Royal families this information is not knew at all. Nor is it secret. King Frederik the 10th of Denmark is also a descendant of Queen Victoria as his maternal grandmother, Queen Ingrid was a Swedish princess, daughter of King Gustav VI Adolf and Princess Margaret of Connaught, the daughter of Prince Arthur, the third son of Queen Victoria. Queen Ingrid married King Frederik the 9th of Denmark in 1935. She was also the paternal aunt of King Carl 16th of Sweden.
Norway’s King Harald is the paternal grandson of King Haakon of Norway who became King of Norway in 1907. He was a Danish prince, Prince Carl, son of King Frederik the VIII and younger brother of King Christian the 10th of Denmark.
King Haakon was married to Princess Maud of Wales, the youngest daughter of Edward the VII and Queen Alexandra, daughter of King Christian the IX of Denmark. Princess Maud was thus a grand daughter of Queen Victoria. This is how the Scandinavian Royal families are related to Queen Victoria.
But they are related to each other in other ways as well. The son of King Haakon the VII, King Olav the V, married Swedish princess Märtha, who was a daughter of Swedish Prince Carl, a younger son of King Oscar of Sweden, and Danish Princess Ingeborg, who was the daughter of King Frederik the VIII and a younger sister of both King Haakon and King Christian the 10th. Prince Carl was also the cousin of his wife’s mother.
Princess Märtha’s sister, Queen Astrid was married to King Leopold the III of Belgium. She died young in a car crash.
This massive crisscrossing of bloodlines across European Royal families has pretty much come to an end as the last two generations of royals have married outside of these family lines. In earlier times, royals had to marry other royals or they’d lose titles and their place in the line of succession for themselves and their descendants and were often ostracized if they married a commoner. Swedish King Gustav VI Adolf’s relationships with his younger sons was pretty fractured as they married commoners and he took their princely titles away from them.
Danish King Christian the IX younger son, Prince Vilhelm became King of Greece under the the name Georg the first. He married grand duchess Olga of Russia who also had Danish family connections.
King Christian the IX was known as the father-in-law of Europe. He and his wife, Queen Louise of Hessen-Kassel had six kids: King Frederik VIII of Denmark, Queen Alexandra of Great Britain, King Georg the first of Greece, Princess Dagmar, Empress of Russia, Princess Thyra, Duchess of Cumberland and Prince Valdemar.

Belgium and Luxembourg were not joined, it was The Netherlands and Luxembourg. Also, King George VI was 1st cousin to King Olav V and so the royal family of Norway are in the line of succession to the British throne. Quite a close relationship.

It was Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s intention to marry their children in to the royal houses of Europe and achieve peace but the early death of Prince Albert derailed this. Queen Victoria was a royal matchmaker.

I don’t want to EVER hear anything about the people in the south of the US again. Oh at ridiculous that people always make jokes about folks marrying their cousins. I can promise you ain’t no intertwining of families like this going on. You may find a couple families that are right up stairs and weird shit goes on within the family but I’ve never heard of ahi like this ever in my life other than the Islamic people marrying first cousins.

First cousin marriages are not illegal in Scandinavia, although in Denmark they have recently talked about making it illegal. Cousin marriages are rare and the last two generations of European royals have married outside of the family lines. In previous generations royals were forced to marry royals or they’d lose titles, fortunes, prestige and their line in succession for themselves and their kids. They were often ostracized or sidelined at family functions. That it’s thankfully not the case anymore as all the latest generation of European royals have all married commoners.
A first generation cousin marriage is not a problem. Kids turn out okay, but you get the problems of inbreeding if subsequent generations also marry their cousins.

Oh Please...Non of these Kings and Queens are Marrying their own relations... It's not hard to work out if two man and woman in a small town anywhere... One couple has 8 kinds...and the other 11 kids.. You'll find 150/200 years later that someone's distantly related to someone else...
Doesn't mean Their marrying One another...The Late Queen of England Married her Third Cousin...That's Nothing!! most people wouldn't even know their 2nd cousins let alone their 3rd cousins.
My Good friend Charlene married a man who attended her dad's funeral in S Carolina...He was British and they had never met... He was a cousin once removed...( ie on the Mothers side... They were older and never intended to have kids...They were very happy for 30 years till God Took them
