Ok, but Rebecca's "And why do men never listen and always think about themselves, AS OPPOSED TO WOMEN WHO ALWAYS LISTEN AND NEVER THINK ABOUT THEMSELVES" is underrated.

It's actually hi-lighting that this method of coping is unhealthy and unhelpful. Imagine the reverse of guys getting drunk and conflating one bad trait of one woman with all women, like the "Incels" (doesn't sound so good now does it). The point is that blaming all of the opposite sex for their relationship issues (while drunk) is the least productive thing one could do. @Atria Laurent Read my original response again. I know it was satirical otherwise they would not have made a point to show Paula feeling bad at the end. I never said that the writers or the characters think "all men are like that" - in fact I said the exact opposite. The song clearly ridicules how society stereotypes men and how women - in situations similar to this - generalize in order to feel better about themselves. (something both sexes are guilty of) The show takes time to give male characters depth like the song "Guys Cry too". My point to @ninasfireescape is that Women don't actually need that kind of moment and neither do Men. Sure we all get frustrated in dating now and again but conflating or generalizing helps no one - especially not the people doing it.
@Atria Laurent Precisely! Rachel is one of the most brilliant satirists out there. One thing that makes her so entertaining is that she's a feminist comedian who can take it as well as dish it out.
Hahaha yes and the just kinda finishes the choreography with that look on her face of, "I'm suddenly doubting everything but I don't wanna ruin the thing they have going on so uh I guess"

I despised that “hot take” from Ms. Mojo. She didn’t even discuss the women infantizing gay men and they only complimented themselves once, so they’re not even bringing women up
@@SA3Future it's both! it's taking a jab at men because the things they're saying are to a degree true for a lot of men, taking a jab at women for the hypocrisy shown, and also celebrating how women tend to do these things to kind of collectively vent about the men in their lives to feel better about themselves... it's kind of both
I mean, guys do this too, about women. But it would probably be more of a grunge song and have them at a bar bitching about stuff. So I don't see why anyone is offended by this -- it's a pretty cheeky way of making fun of how people deal with break-ups and heartbreak.
This is ice hole fishing, something what she always does. If any of us straight and angry people catch on the bait, that's instant admission that anger is driven by psychosexual resentment towards a string of rejection which keeps people from acknowledging the other side could appreciate the admission said anger is built on generalization. That way, we can both enjoy a wacky song and have an honest conversation about frustration. It would be eons better than the low low bar of "I'm at least not a guy who only furthers careers if they whack me off". Part of the resentment on the side of women comes from guys like me who seemingly do nothing to stop such a power play, and this is not an excuse, but there's a reason I learn about the Harvey's from the media, they lie to us guys too insomuch that only a trusted circle of "friends" know about what they do.
I feel like that would defeat the purpose, since this, as far as I can tell, is mocking a lot of feminists. Obviously, the men's rights movement is a lot smaller, and aren't known for making as many generalizations.
Holly Lottie Was this a reply to my post? I didn't mention feminism. After people break up there's often a session of blowing off steam by bitching about the opposite sex. I've always thought it kind of dumb but it seems planted in our culture.
+Magical Hamster It's not a cultural thing as it crosses over racial, ethnic, cultural and gender lines. Just as not analyzing one's own viewpoint how they would sound if the subject in question were different. To put it in simple terms, if you have a strong, but generalized argument about a group, if you apply it to a different and it sounds bigoted af, chances are high you're a bigot. What is a sad fact is that America, especially since religion and politics share a bed, has a bad tendency of handling issues. Whereas conservatives wish to solve almost every problem by bombing it or sending in the cops with tanks, liberals are guilty of the "The rest of the world is also America" trope and jump to conclusions, that everything good or bad is like how they have it at home. The song mocks generalization itself and sins the assumption that people allied along common ideas can't have independent thought, which is only true for violent radicals.
The irony of that part about gay men is that the most prominent gay character on the show hangs out with straight men most of the time and acts like a total dudebro.
My favorite part is when Paula says “All men are completely repressed” and Valencia follows with “all men only want to have sex.” You can tell they aren’t even really listening to each other’s complaints.
I love how in saying "Gay men don't count! They're not mean, they're just sassy!" They're still technically generalizing. Obviously not all gay men are like that, just like not all straight men are abusers. It's a nice detail.
I didn't really care for her singing in Friendtopia and the Bathroom song in Season 2, but she sounds soooo good here. She's really stepping up! I hope she features prominently in this season tbh
SAME!! The Bathroom/R. Kelly one was really funny tho HAHAHA In this song tho, her line "ALL MEN ARE EMOTIONALLY STUNTED" -- when I heard that, I was like WHOA, I did not expect that from Heather!!! And her dancing is the best here too!!
Freindtopia was a Spice Girls spoof, and a great one at that. I think the vocals were meant to bit Estruary accent and dodgy. Everyone's in fine form in this, it's just perfect.
The whole thing is satire on top satire. Since this is also some men see feminists. We are just a bunch of man haters that talk about how shitty men are.
I love how the gay guy they know is the opposite of what they said 😂. Judgemental, rational and is the only one that had seen Rebecca's true colors from the start. (He's my favourite character)
Lena R. I really liked Music and Lyrics and I love CxG so when I saw that I wasn't even surprised. Schlesinger is also the one who came up with «You Go First» which really makes him a 80s genius
Seriously, it feels really nice to see someone acknowledge the fact that gay men aren't seen as men and are somehow better than straight men just because of that.
Things I'm OBSESSED with in the video: Valencia Rachel's voice on "All three billion men are like this" Heather's voice on "All men are emotionally stunted" The self awareness (Ritual we need now and then) The Ending (YOU'RE SONS ARE GOING TO BE RAPISTS) So happy this show is back!!!
What about when Rachel is all: “And why do men never listen and only think about themselves As opposed to women, Who always listen and never think about themselves?”
I’ve recently started a CEXG rewatch, and the greatest struggle in life is to not randomly sing “you’re sons are gonna be rapists” out loud in work. No preamble, just that one line out of context. It’s a daily struggle man. I haven’t managed to stop singing “yes I like penises but who doesn’t” with zero context, but at least that’s less likely to cause any workplace drama.
Please explain the point XD I don't know the show, it was just in my recommendations. I love how it parodies radical feminists but I fear that I might have missed the point. Looking at the comments doesn't help me to understand.
i was looking for this bc i didn't know her name. she always stands out to me, such a magnetic and skillful performer. her acting is always exactly right too woman is such a seasoned pro, just excellent
my favourite character arc has to be valencia being internally misogynistic but mentioned about how she'd always wanted to be part of a girls' friend group and belong, and then by the end of the series she has exactly that because she took an effort to overcome said misogyny and supported rebecca, heather & paula 🥺🤧
Yeah, they all sound like real prizes. Yeah sure. Anyone would be "lucky" with them as girlfriends. Yeah, sure. They will torture any male child they bear and truly give them a miserable life. Reply
This is how gender commentary should work a fun song poking fun at both genders. Ive seen a couple of comments addresssing ppl who took this the wrong way but I’ve been scrolling for a bit and I haven’t found any. I think this shows how well executed this song really is
Her character is losing personality in my opinion. She can't be this goody two shoes. Also, White Josh he's dumb but in the premiere was very different. They shouldn't take away these traits.
Eimard Gomes I agree. Valencia was obtuse, controlling, and vain, while also being an outwardly positive and hardworking person. She was a dynamic and slightly tragic character. Now it seems like they took away all the bad traits and left only the good ones... which makes her a lot less interesting. That being said Gabrielle Ruiz is still killing it with the singing and dancing.
Eliot Schager I don’t think we’ve seen enough to judge yet... she’s just trying to help get revenge right now which is in line with how her character has always been. Both her and Heather weren’t the focus this episode but that’s okay. I’m sure they’ll get more time.
I don't think they have changed her personality, her goals have just changed. She said she had trouble having female friends before but that she really enjoyed being friends with Rebecca before the kiss. Valencia isn't an inherently nasty person. The characters are also in a way, shown through Rebecca's eyes so I think that has something to do with it too. But she got aggressive towards Rebecca cause of Josh. But Josh isn't part of her life in that way, anymore so Rebecca isn't a threat to her. And Josh hurt her so badly that it's a bonding point for her and Rebecca. Their friendship isn't out of left field. And Valencia's traits are still there. She still can be nasty and aggressive, her feelings are just no longer directed at Rebecca. She stole Anna's keys with no remorse, was passive aggressive about Anna claiming not to know her weight, and is willing to help Rebecca to sue Josh. While I am sure the suing is in part to help her friend, there is obviously a personal interest in doing so. She wasted 15 years on him, only to have him propose to some other girl very shortly after they broke up, he ruined her new dream of being a wedding planner immediately after this dream began, and in general she is tired of seeing him be reckless with other people's feelings. She is far from a goody-two shoes. I feel like she just has more depth now, because instead of seeing this stereotypical "I hate all other women" hot girl trope, we see someone with motivations for her actions, with actual rationality behind her behavior. She has more personality in general now, which isn't exactly uncommon after a break up. She is exploring who she is without someone she's been with since she was a young teenager. A lot of her hopes and dreams were built around her and Josh living their lives together, so she has to start all over again. And while it might seem odd for her to want to be friends with Rebecca, she openly stated that Rebecca wasn't really their problem, and she was right. Josh had been hesitating to commit to her long before Rebecca showed up. It may have cemented some things, but Valencia recognizes that Josh was the problem and therefore Josh gets the brunt of the blame. Her being willing to separate that out, and direct her frustration where it really belongs, shows a lot of depth to me. But that's just my opinion...I also may watch this show entirely too much >>
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS SEASON! I am so pumped to see how the characters develop. What I love about this show is how no one is who they appear to be at first. I feel like the way we are first introduced to characters is almost exclusively through Rebecca's eyes. And then they start to develop into real people (cause they are supposed to be REAL people), that have actual depth outside of what Rebecca sees from them. And I REALLY love that. None of them went off in the direction I expected them to.
Everyone’s debating about interpretations of this song so I wanna share mine. To me this song is just from the point of view of a person who is aware that generalization of men is inaccurate and doesn’t think it’s the most moral thing to do but also admittedly uses it as a form of stress relief from misogyny. Like the song itself is really fun and upbeat, the person’s clearly having a good time generalizing about men, but also the lyrics are really self-aware, like “clearly we’re just generalizing”, but then the upbeat music of the song makes it sound sort of triumphant like, “okay, yeah, sure, I’m generalizing, but Im only human and I deserve some stress relief!” but also the song exaggerates that behavior as a way of being like “is this really what you think I do though? You think I’m intentionally making a bold statement about all men when I’m just venting?” And more and more mixed layers of feelings. To me, the point of this song is not to convey a clear message, it’s to capture a feeling, and I think it succeeds at that and that’s why I like it. I think a lot of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend songs are like this, they tend to poke fun at human feelings by showing how absurd they tend to be, while also giving those emotions space with a huge dance number. A lot of crazy ex-girlfriend songs are like “Yes my emotions are stupid! But I still have them!” I think this song is popular beyond the show so some people may be missing the full context of the tone of the show.
It’d be cool if these generalizations weren’t used to justify the treatment of a male abuse victims, like denying them funding, or equal recognition of male rape victims by women, or feminists then pretending they’ve never contributed to those issues and never address any of that history
We're glad some people did understand that it's a parody of the whole " men are all the same " and it points about how ridiculous it is. Feminism is not about saying men are monsters, it's just about equality. You're appreciated !!!
Can we stop for a moment and appreciate how they were still generalizing when they talked about gay men (even though it was “positive”). I love that easter egg.

The song clearly ridicules how society stereotypes men and how women - in situations similar to this - generalize in order to feel better about themselves. (something both sexes are guilty of)
The show takes time to give male characters depth like the song "Guys Cry too".
My point to @ninasfireescape is that Women don't actually need that kind of moment and neither do Men. Sure we all get frustrated in dating now and again but conflating or generalizing helps no one - especially not the people doing it.
@@jacobodom8401 well you'd need equality for that comparison with men who hate women to work
@Atria Laurent Precisely! Rachel is one of the most brilliant satirists out there. One thing that makes her so entertaining is that she's a feminist comedian who can take it as well as dish it out.
Paula’s face when she remembers she has sons gets me every time
Hahaha yes and the just kinda finishes the choreography with that look on her face of, "I'm suddenly doubting everything but I don't wanna ruin the thing they have going on so uh I guess"
She shouldn't have had rapists lol
The way her voice cracks a bit, it's just the right amount of genuine unnerved emotion to be hilarious.

All the woman clearly missed the point of this song..

I thought it was a satire of how (some) men generalise about women generalising about men lol
This is such a brilliant parody on It's Raining Men too. Very reminiscent of the music video

It also reminds me of "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves" by Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin.

Ms Mojo: IT'S A SONG ABOUT FEMINISM AND EMPOWERMENT AND HOW BAD MEN ARE
I despised that “hot take” from Ms. Mojo. She didn’t even discuss the women infantizing gay men and they only complimented themselves once, so they’re not even bringing women up
Or how she seriously said that "Women Gotta Stick Together" was about... women sticking together.
Can you link the video?
If anything this is more anti-feminist because it puts a spotlight on female hypocrisy / ignorance toward men
@@SA3Future it's both! it's taking a jab at men because the things they're saying are to a degree true for a lot of men, taking a jab at women for the hypocrisy shown, and also celebrating how women tend to do these things to kind of collectively vent about the men in their lives to feel better about themselves... it's kind of both
I mean, guys do this too, about women.
Wait, are people offended by this song? I'm a straight guy and I thought this was hilarious
This show is so UNDERRATED it's criminal
It could be famous, who cares, it doesn't, BUT IT COULD IF IT WANTED TO!!
Criminally underrated - it’s brilliant & an achievement
The irony of that part about gay men is that the most prominent gay character on the show hangs out with straight men most of the time and acts like a total dudebro.
I really appreciate how the gripes each woman sings about are related to their own personality/relationship with men
This show nailed life. My life. Haha
My favorite part is when Paula says “All men are completely repressed” and Valencia follows with “all men only want to have sex.” You can tell they aren’t even really listening to each other’s complaints.

I agree. You can hear her a lot of times in the harmonies. I'm glad she's stepped it up.
Freindtopia was a Spice Girls spoof, and a great one at that. I think the vocals were meant to bit Estruary accent and dodgy. Everyone's in fine form in this, it's just perfect.

1:24 I LOVE THE WAY VELLA SINGS THAT LINE OH MY GOD
I’ve recently started a CEXG rewatch, and the greatest struggle in life is to not randomly sing “you’re sons are gonna be rapists” out loud in work. No preamble, just that one line out of context. It’s a daily struggle man.
I haven’t managed to stop singing “yes I like penises but who doesn’t” with zero context, but at least that’s less likely to cause any workplace drama.
Ugh you and I thw same struggle man

I actually can't stop listening to this. It may be my new favourite song. And Valencia spinning in the sparkle hair spray is EVERYTHING.
my favourite character arc has to be valencia being internally misogynistic but mentioned about how she'd always wanted to be part of a girls' friend group and belong, and then by the end of the series she has exactly that because she took an effort to overcome said misogyny and supported rebecca, heather & paula 🥺🤧

I MISSED THIS SHOW IM SO GLAD THEYRE BACK TODAY
This is how gender commentary should work a fun song poking fun at both genders. Ive seen a couple of comments addresssing ppl who took this the wrong way but I’ve been scrolling for a bit and I haven’t found any. I think this shows how well executed this song really is
sort to new comments. there are quite a few
Tbh after reading the comments I have no idea what's the good way to understand the song
Valencia is really bringing it for this song wow. Also subtitles now!
This is the weirdest power rangers video i've ever seen.
bro why isn't this top comment
Agrea ! All the serie show life paradoxes (i dont speack english but i try 😅)
Lmao and just because you have those feelings doesn’t mean you get to paint all men as rapists, honey
Well said!
It’d be cool if these generalizations weren’t used to justify the treatment of a male abuse victims, like denying them funding, or equal recognition of male rape victims by women, or feminists then pretending they’ve never contributed to those issues and never address any of that history
