- Our Oceana correspondent, Simone goes for a drive in the new LDV MIFA - a gigantic electric van that offers its occupants a private jet-esque experience and an abundance of the greatest luxury of all: space. But is there a place for enormous EVs like this in a sustainable future, or is the MIFA something of a contradiction?

Took me too long to realise “heavy people movers” referred to the vehicle weight and not the passenger weight.
I have been in a MIFA9. It was a heavy people mover when I was in it.
in america it applies to passenger weight though
😂😂😂
😂😆
Where are the normal people movers ⁉️ I know they are Tesla . EV makers quit before they even started , or is Tesla that much ahead ⁉️ I think we all know the answer to that question 😅
Those commenting about the charge port on the left side and the sliding door, this is just my opinion but I imagine the door won't open if it is charging and since this is a right hand drive vehicle the passengers are probably getting out on the ride side, most of the time but I get where you are coming from if someone is buying a big vehicle you want access to the door for all the people you are transporting, it will probably only be a minor issue if there are passengers and need to stop to charge up on a trip,
Maybe do like they did with some of the old cars have a flip up rear light to access your charging port they did that some of the old cars from the 50's -60's to access the fuel filler cap you lifted up one of the rear tail lights.
A bit big for my use, just me and my bicycles.
Cheers.
Was this filmed on a phone? Strange blurry camera work when outside the car/bus while driving.
I do love the fact that you are getting presenters from the country in question rather than flying around the world. The consistency is pretty solid considering this. Fully charged is very informative and consistent! Well done team fully charged.
Cost is one aspect and might be difficult to justify flying presenters hither and thither keeping the carbon footprint thing to a minimum ... especially when the ethos of the website is to promote "greeness".
Might be an idea to use local stringers for every aspect of the website when abroad.
Bit like Harry using private jets to attend court in UK.
Thank goodness we'll be travelling across the globe in vacuum tubes in a year or two.
Do you have anything to say about the car?
@@desertstar223
Certainly. But it's not about the car though, is it.
It's all about trying to push battery EVs and as we all know they're not as popular as they once were, certainly not in UK what with the revelation of the original new prices, the not terribly special residuals, the stonking cost of insurance, the somewhat unbelievable cost of a battery pack should it require repairs or replacement and the by now annual demonstration that cold weather affects the performance of battery EVs ref range and the time it takes to recharge in said cold weather.
This particular car may well have its virtues ... somewhere ... but not in UK.
What with the initial disappointment that electric cars take a long time to charge, and that's not including a possible long wait at a charging facility, the variable cost of said charging and that in 2025 the equivalent of VED will be levied on electric vehicles. Please try to grasp that battery EVs, in colloquial terms, are "not all that".
As for cargo carrying vehicles then the weight of a battery bank may well reduce the payload, given the maximum road weight so to speak.
It is clear to many observers that battery powered vehicles were only ever a step on the way to reducing greenhouse gases, which, unless you missed it, is the only reason why battery EVs were introduced in the first place.
To repeat, the idea is to reduce the rate of temperature increase in the atmos'.
Unless you have been asleep then it is inevitable the global ice will melt, causing sea levels to rise and increase the pressure on land space on which to house a growing population (some of whom have a fondness for freely fornicating their way into starvation) and of course feeding said population.
Trillions of tons of cold fresh water mingling with the sea water will more than likely have dire effects on the weather patterns as the climate changes, ocean currents, the plankton at the bottom of the food chain and you can Google the rest for yourself, if arsed.
All the above caused by our propensity in burning fossil fuels over the past few decades.
And you're asking about a single vehicle?
Perhaps you should attempt to gain some perspective?
I'm glad we're finally seeing people mover EVs because for those of us with accessibility requirements for wheelchair users need it. Modifications around the batteries though is still an issue but it's a start!
In case you are not already aware of these other people movers, the VW ID Buzz, Citroen e-Space Tourer, Opel/Vauxhall (Buick/Holden?) Combo e-Life, and Peugeot e-Rifter are currently on sale, and this year Volvo EM90 and Ford E-Tourneo should start being sold (there are probably a lot more I have missed)... in China they seem to especially love people movers so if you are able and willing to jump through the legal/logistical/financial/tax hoops to import a car from there, then you would have even more choice. Best wishes and good luck!
@@shonunezekiel Hey thanks I'll definitely look into these. Kia has also announced a new platform for medium to large people movers/last mile transport and delivery that looks promising. Unfortunately importing puts us in a position of risk when it comes to service and repair so we're at the whim of the major manufacturers bringing it into Australia.
@@shonunezekielFYI opel / vauxhall are owned by Peugeot Citroen and part of that family including Fiat and Jeep.
Opel / vauxhall aren't GM anymore which means they don't share platforms with Buick and Holden
@@joebooth67 - thanks for clarifying that Joe! I was not sure if they were still connected :D ... I am in the UK and have never knowingly seen a Buick or Holden - they actually sound like people's names rather than car brands to me!
Simone is amazing presenter, love her!
Yeah, what he said!
True!
You kidding me, she's hot! 🥵 And yes, also amazing presenter 😅
Big improvement on Jack.
Yay Simone, nailed Bobby's classic three-part intro🤩 Now, off to Incat in Tassie please who is currently building the world's largest and fastest full battery electric ferry ⛴🔋⚡
She's just done the most professional presentation ever seen on this channel. The into was exquisite: "this is the X, I'm X and your watching X Finally! Well done! You better hire this gal full time!
Possibly.
But there again she might be an agency worker and took the job as a one off earner.
Working with battery EVs must be a tad boring as we now see said battery EVs are slightly retrograde and perhaps not the answer to global warming as was once thought.
I would strongly suggest the lady presenter would have been more engaged if the vehicle had been powered by an hydrogen fuel cell ... wouldn't we all.
Toyota, as you might know, are now not quite so enamoured of battery EVs as once were.
I have every confidence Robert will be dedicating an entire program as to why battery EVs are becoming more de trop by the day. Hopefully getting an interview with Toyota's top dog.
Come on Robert! Let's do some serious reportage!
You can't put it off forever as a lot of lithium mines are likely to shut down forever.
And these UK "pop up" battery factories don't materialise in quite the way they were promised.
Together we can drive batteries off the road ... and ease the elderly car journalists into a long overdue retirement ... in an hydrogen gas fueled home.
ooof why would they put the charging port right next to the sliding door? You're effectively blocking that door while it's charging. Yes there's another sliding door, but still. Not sure why they made that design choice.
Puts the port on the curb side in England.
Because they don't care about the user
Really not a fan of this "new" trend of sticking display panels out of the dashboard, it makes them look like unfinished prototypes. I don't care which companies do that, it's a mistake IMHO.
Yeah, very Mercedes
We don't see enough of Simone. She's really good.
Yes. Excellent. (
I can even understand her ‘stralia accent!) 😂
Even as an EV enthusiast, that price is wild. 50K more than a petrol version. That's like 30,000 litres of petrol at today's prices.
The petrol uses 9.3L/100km, so you'd need to do over 322,000km before you paid off the difference, excluding energy costs. (I'm ignoring servicing costs because they're a bit of an unknown.
I WANT EVs to succeed. I haven't bought petrol in 8 months. Wife and I have had a Tesla for a year and a BYD for the 8 months since.
The price needs to make sense, and I think for business, this particular model is well overpriced, unless for buying businesses, if they're looking to show off to eco conscious clients paying lots of money.
In the real world for us peasants, we need more focus on things like what BYD and MG are doing with sub $50K options
@JoshuaMcTackett Combustion engines are slowly killing the planet and the people.
You're not wrong, cut out all the unnecessary stuff, those seats are way over the top and change leather to cloths, sure they can reduce the cost a decent amount.
You don't want you to look like the help? You're going to pay for it.
"Vanity: Definitely my favorite sin." - Lucifer, DEVIL'S ADVOCATE
I am almost certain that these are AUD prices. In USD it is closer 85K. Not sure why they didn't specify.
@@Preske I’m from Australia speaking about Australian prices! Can always tell by the voice and plates that they’re one of ours!
Just way way too much of a gap in price between petrol and EV to make a proper business case in this case I think
the price alone makes this doa.
I wonder if it might succeed as a taxi, or airport limo
@@addsfour3499 for very short runs maybe. but it doesn't have much range either.
i think it would be a great car at 60k to 80k.
Simone is a great presenter. She's very comfortable presenting and oozes authenticity. Love to see it!
Did we get to see the boot space?
how do you open that left side back door whilst charging?
I am guessing that you don't. You just have to get out through the right-side door.
You don't! The door is interlocked with the charging flap, so if you're charging it's the right hand door only!
Was gonna post the same thing - this is a huge oversight in the design - especially since its loaded with those chairs - not great to people to get around.
@bytchslappa there is an entire sliding door on the other side of the car. Why would it be any more difficult to exit out the other door when you are charging?
Great presentation on a class of vehicle that's fairly popular here in Australia. Good point about the size and weight and relative efficiency.
Can see this in the luxury airport shuttle services though.
What a delightful presentation !! Informative, easy listen…..keep it up
I have actually been in a Maxus Mifa 9.
It was in a car show, and it was really cool. I didn't check much else than the rear seats, but they were really comfortable.
Also, it was a Maxus, not LDV, but it's pretty much the same, right?
Yeah the LDV badge was dropped in favour of Maxus in most markets, but the products are the same
Yes, I went in one at Fully Charged Sydney last year. The second row was some of the nicest car seating I've ever been in.
Yeah I saw it at fully charged as well badged as a Maxus
Welcome to Fully Charged Simone.
Congrats on this video. Love the structure and the way you tick off the relevant info point by point with both the good and the bad aspects.
Hoping for more 3-row EV options to come to the US
Good review Simone. One detail that needs clarifying is that you are quoting the price in AU$. It took a conversion check to confirm this but for an international audience 'dollars' are often assumed to be the US variety.
Haven't seen a video with Simone before. She did a great job.
Simone is excellent!
Loving the OZ vibe. 👍
Great to see Simone again, could listen to her all day. I can see this as a great taxi/shuttle but completely agree that we need to start making better use of the space a car takes up. Tax credits for estates and penalties on enormous SUVs
Great review 👍👍
Great to see a bit of our home town Adelaide Simone! Looks like the Tonlsey rapid chargers still down tho? Not my cup of tea, but great review, cant help but think how much better and more fit for purpose it would be as a proper people mover with 6-8 seats.. Airport shuttle!
Good review, making lots of interesting points.
This was really interesting! As a city dweller I always worry about the turning circle (ie manoeuvrability) of the longer cars - would be great to see that as one of the standard stats that FC add... anyway, it is also available online, and this one is 12.7m - which is a bit less than I thought it would be :-D ... but more than 2m wider than what I could cope with in London!
It'd probably be ok actually if they didn't have that unnecessarily long nose to try and get the SUV look.
@@kiddwong4186 true... if an EV is going to have a long nose, at least use it to make it more aerodynamic!
So this is a blinking luxury vehicle rather than a normal, practical, parkable car like my Renault Zoe!!
Very professional. A natural presenter and star in the making.
LDV actually goes waaay back further in British history, beyond supplying vehicles for ambulances and the post office. After an ownership stint in the Netherlands and even Russia 'LDV' finished it's tour in China. It stands for 'Leyland DAF Vans.' Anyone fondly remember Leyland? No?
DAF? I remember Daf! They were good vans.
The original CVT
Leyland. Sadly not much there from what I can see.
yey Simone... ya that interior looks plenty comfy
Good on you Simone. Kicking goals!
Hey Simone. Love your work 👍
Now i can shift my three under fives and all my dogs on electric!
This looks interesting
Thumbs upp for use the metric system - it is so much easier to understand directly.
Well, she is Aussie...
Cut off the rear cabin behind the first row, install a tray and you have a decent size ute.
Quite a few of the mainstream media can learn a ton from your presenters. Thank you for your hard work 🙂
Not sure in what world a 30-80% time of 36 minutes is “reasonable“. That‘s terrible for a 90kWh battery pack
Great episode, Simone. 👏👏
Seen this car in Nepal 🇳🇵 too, its called Maxus Mifa 9 here.
Nepal has the best flag
how much this mifa9 cost, there??
@@jonitan76 Little over US$100K I think.
Sorry, but I’m a supermini man!! I’m not into vehicles 4.5 metres or shorter rather than massive great things like this!! It’s certainly not pretty, but it might well be very practical!!
For those of you who say it's too large there is also a Mifa7.
Coming from someone who has lived with three different electric cars, i hate it when the charge port is on the driver front fender. It makes it awkward when you want to use a public charger, rear passenger quarter pannel is the most convenient. If someone says otherwise, they dont use public charging stations very often!
Looks awesome =)
Nice reivews. In other markets this is called Maxus Mifa9
I might have missed it but does this vehicle have a "Vehicle to Load" capability of any sort?
With a battery that big it might get some love as an "away from the grid" power bank.
Thanks for a great review Simone. We'll be watching for your next one.
Great review Simone.
Always happy to watch a new car review, also new reviewer did well. Though what a weird giant car, not really sure who this is actually for. Find the use of the LDV brand for such a thing is distressing ( though doesn't hurt as much as MG did 😢 ) .
Large families. I thought that was obvious.
@@jamesengland7461 yes, of course, but seems a niche of niche of a niche
Loved seeing an aussie presenter and right in time for Australia Day
Those seats are great especially when you need a sleep whilst waiting for a charger and charging! I want this car!
Cheers Simone
Thanks
wow.... uuuhhgleee! The front end looks like a storm trooper
Exciting to have an Aussie presenter! Welcome Simone
Nice to see some minivan , although it's heavy people minivan. Would be nice if they make cheaper version without posh for "lighter" ones?
Watching now & straight away it’s mentioned that in uk it’s maxus :) thanks
2:20 “What I like is that if you are buying this MIFA to transport the family about then you can do so quite stylishly, without looking like the paid help.”
Wow, tell us how you REALLY feel about minivan drivers.
It’s a joke. In Australia we joke that parents are like glorified chauffeurs to their kids. Because the car has a bit of flair she’s saying you won't look like you've hired a chauffeur to take the family around, you'll still look like a parent… because it’s not a typical corporate-looking chauffeured vehicle
I see NZ has the 3 levels priced at 80k, 100k &120k (US$ 49k, 61k & 73k)
A great review by Simone
Totally agree on heavy EVs being taxed etc just as heavy ICE vehicles would be - anything to encourage manufacturers and potential customers from making / buying ever-more excessively-sized, energy-sapping SUVs, rather than vehicles which are more fit-for-purpose and environmentally kind.
That interior is insane
You need a new adjective.
@@stephen300o6 That interior is skibidi.
What stupidity to place the charge port in the way of the sliding door. It's not as if minivans didn't provide the example of moving the fuel filler back out of reach of the sliding door....
So you either charge or open the left rear door? great design...
Heads up display? I’ve had one on my last two. Cars and cant live without it. Kinda surprises me more people dont want it
Completely agree. Don't see why it's expensive and not a basic standard thing for all cars. It's a complete game changer for keeping your eyes on the road. In particular for Tesla-style cost-cutting by putting a single display in the center -- that's unsafe, but when you add a simple HUD right in front of the driver, it's completely sensible and livable.
The front is very Range Rover, isn't it? That's no bad thing.
Simone is a lovely presenter with a relaxed tone and easy voice to listen to, but the MIFA9 is a "yeah, nah" from me. For living in Sydney it's too big for some roads and would be a nightmare to find parking for. All of those controls in the middle row chairs would be crazy to let children take control of.
what do we do with it in 8 years time when the battery is 'done'?
The Mifa 9 cost under 300000 Yuan (AU$ 65 000) in China. Is it import duty that nearly doubles the price for Auz?
Happy to see a presenter that represents Oz, she did a good job. Hope to see more of her. You do need to reference that the price was in Oz dollars though, or you'll have American viewers ... choking and yelling at the screen.
And don't forget the luxury vehicle tax which makes expensive vehicles even more so.
A good presentation Simone. That is not a "car" for me, but it is interesting to see.
lets gooo, more Australian EV stuff!
An honest report and rational considerations on this Luxo-barge. The front end looks RR Evoque-ish. Odd name and expensive.
Finally, someone is mentioning the weight issue of larger EVs and battery size drawbacks. Econo-meters in cars were all the range during the oil crisis of the 70s, but were more of a novelty than anything practical.
Have you checked out the weight of the Toyota Landcruiser? This is no heavier. Nobody bleats too much about Landcruisers "breaking our bridges" 🤣🙄
@@petesig93 Thankfully they are not that common on our roads. Plenty of EVs with this size or similar battery packs that are mainstream. I take the point you make, and I think that this will be similar in terms of sales volume as well. Point is, EVs are very heavy due to battery pack capacity, in part to placating range anxiety. Anything over 60kWh of energy capacity is an affront to the availability of scare natural resources, IMO. The sooner lighter and higher densities materials are found to replace Li Ion, the better. The more that reviewers talk about this in their commentary, the better. This is the first review I have heard anyone discussing battery capacity in terms of weight. I have heard plenty of criticisers do this, but never in a EV review. I say, well done and about time. Cheers.
@@GolLeeMe EVs are not "very heavy". My Ioniq 6 is about 1,970 kg, which is only about 300 kg heavier than the old Ford Falcon station-wagon it has replaced. If you reckon that 300 kg is going to break down bridges or wear out the road surfaces at rapid rate, I have some bad news for you (*Kenworths!)
@@GolLeeMe BTW, Lithium ion batteries are the best in terms of energy-density. The new, better LiFePo batteries which avoid fast-charging issues and do not use cobalt or nickel, are actually lower energy-density (ie. less range or a heavier battery to achieve range). Sodium-ion which is also being touted and on some models is similar.
@@petesig93 I am not suggesting anything about the weight of EVs for parking structures or bridges/roads etc. Not sure why people seem to be accusing me of that, as I have never stated such a concern. Having worked with structural engineers for most of my life I know that the safety margin built into every structure under AS1170 seems more than adequate, although most likely at the upper limit. It’s the suggested parking bay size that is recommended for EVs that should shock the most. Span on 360, and if you cannot get the suspended floor to comply, spread the load out further. Meaning bigger parking bays and less vehicles per unit area. An old trick.
The Iqonic6 is about Camry size and proportionally heavier (vis 1500-1650kg). A whole lot of extra weight to be dragging around in a battery pack impacting on tyres, suspension, etc. Given longer range trips an EV needs a reasonable battery size to cope with long distance pitstops, thats for sure. If average trips are 40-60kms then a battery pack of anything more than 60kWh is a sheer waste and unnecessary IMO. Until of course you need that 90-100kWh pack to go on an interstate trip. If a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross or Outlander can achieve 40-60km range on EV power alone (without starting the ICE) and with a smallish battery pack of something like 15-30kWh (across both models) and dragging those heavy PHEV bodies around, then really there is no excuse for big batteries to cater for most situations.
This is one of the many conundrum facing buyers, and unfortunately it’s how this rolls in Oz. We can’t put in smallish packs to cater for everything in OZ because we don’t live in Europe. Hydrocarbons are king for long trips and they are more convenient and useful in those situations, and reduce the time delay of refuelling. EVs are great in urban built up areas and helping to secure national energy supplies. The facts don’t care how we feel about them, they are still the facts. Cheers.
Bit of a monster-only for large families and business trips??
Are we not going to talk about the solar roof chargers? This is the more important topic, ev drivers lets start a petition to get more roofs (solar) over the changing infrastructure. Lookng at you Supercharger in Bulls.
I do worry about that charging port location, is it hit by the sliding door?
Also Leather seats in Australia is just bad, I can see being stuck to them 80-90% of the year, only feeling good for the 2 weeks of "real winter" that would still be spring temperatures in any country in the northern hemisphere.
What is the battery chemistry? This is key information!
Battery: 89.9 kWh 395 V lithium-ion
The point is to have appropriate size vehicles for their use. All too often even 4/5 seat cars are just too big.
Is it a bit like this ?

No Android Auto support would be a deal breaker for many in Europe where it has 66% market share.
We've gone from 0-100, to 10-80, to now 30-80... Pretty soon we will be advertising 45-55 charging in just minutes!
130kw charging seems REALLY slow for something with a battery that size. You would think of this was designed for smaller frequent trips they would have optimized for peak charge curves and try to get similar to the 230 or 250kw like the Kia/Hyundai E-GMP, even if it can only do that from 10-50 and then slow down for battery longevity.
I would LOVE this. Need some help though I live in Croydon in a block of flats that has limited parking. I'm on the 7th floor so running a cable ain't an option! Some bugger would take some scissors to it. No chargers here ever given the layout. So nearest one is expensive even compared to home charging or even diesel and either not working or has a 2 hour wait. I do about 100 miles a day and carry heavy loads. I can't take 3 hours out of my working day to charge a van and I need to eat and sleep. Electric is getting to be an elite club for people with driveways 😢😢😢😢😢😢
No help guys????😢
This is not fit for purpose as a family vehicle. The closest I have found is either VW Sharan or SEAT Alhambra. Create an electric vehicle that is as capable as either of these two vehicles and you are getting close to the perfect family vehicle. Five full size individual rear seats that fold to create a completely flat floor, plus sliding rear doors.
Wonder if you can get them with empty back and use it like it a van
Nice car & I'm sure there's a market for it........ Somewhere?!
Now, to counter that episode, you'll need to do 5 more about small EVs 😮
That's a Karin Vivanite! 😲
120kW MAX charging is a deal breaker.
Have to say I agree, especially with such a big battery. My car has a 67kWh battery and DC charges at 140kW, it's so important for the longer trips!
Also, not fan of the design 😵.
@@larsvaneynde4281 design is a personal thing, but it will be a business car, airport shuttle, or company cars. If you are picking up your C-levels from the airport, you don't want to stop with them for 40 minutes. Same with regular clients, if you are an airport cab you want to reduce your stops to a minimum. imagine that you can drop your passengers, connect your car, and go to arrival hall to pick up next pair. their will be a massive change in that 15min stop depends if you are charging 120 or 240.
Even if you are traveling just with family... with this class of seats you don't need 40min breaks so often as in ID4 or ford explorer.
the reason I put like is definitely not the car, but the presenter herself))
It’s as good a reason as ever, so long as you are the right side of creepy
I found the colour of the vehicle to be almost hypnotically beautiful.
So... why do their vehicles look exactly like Toyota’s?
😂Look like Toyota? Toyota would wish their design team can come up with this. The current Senna is good looking. But the design concept is archaic. The door rail just ruin the over all presentaion. The fuel consumption is high despite being a hybrid. The 4 cylinder engine is under power, the electrical propulsion system is still ptitful. Over, other than decent look. The cars sucks to drive and sucks to ride.
So, will the auto door cut the charging cord off? That is the real question.
Rear charging point team! 👊
Just spotted you can’t open the sliding door when charging?
People buy SUVs, despite not having a need, for the greater space? No. SUVs *_don't have more space!_* They are much bigger, but they actually have *_less_* usable space! (both for people, and luggage)
It's all a bit silly isn't it? And then the price. Good presentation, Simone. :-)
Why was the color of the car changed from what it is in the video to yellow in the thumbnail? Was it just to get the viewers attention?
but why do they follow the 'murican "kids unseen" high front grill
