You watch the full movie once and cry for the last 30 seconds. Then you watch the film 200 times during the last 30 seconds and cry 200 times again. What kind of magician is at work here?

The perfect ending to a great film. Probably Chaplin's greatest movie.

even without the whole rest of the film in front of it...
I defy anyone to watch that last 30 seconds, and not have your eyes well up...
    even a little

Intriguing outtake at 7:07. Looks like the Floorwalker set before the escalator and elevator went in. Any further details available?

    Regret

At 1:34 the little boy is wearing a dress most likely because his parents were too poor to afford male home clothes so they use an older female's hand me downs. I have always heard of people doing this as a norm in the early 1900s and before but I have never scene it... Wow sad!!!

The actress was 20-not that it mattered, my observation was that she was 35.

I wonder if Charlie Chaplin ever saw the Tom and Jerry cartoons and if so maybe had tried something similar with the tramp character having everyone else talk but keeping the tramp silent. Hmmmm I wonder 🤔???

Tom and Jerry made their debut in 1940. By that time, Charlie Chaplin had released all of the films in which his Tramp character appeared, from Kid Auto Races at Venice (1914) to Modern Times (1936).
