15:11 - 😆😆😆 I have AJA on CD, yet I felt like listening to the LP version, so I borrowed it from the library - anyway, I can't even look at the cover art without remembering seeing you toss it to the side and declaring "yeah, this is horrible!"😅 Disagree as I do, I still thought it was funny. I still love the album, but I appreciated the good laugh, too.

Back in the 1990’s thru the 2000’s, I bought used Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, The Police, Pink Floyd, and The Who albums for less than 10 dollars apiece. It’s amazing how the prices went up in the past 10 years.
In the mid 2000's I found Beatles, Pink Floyd including one time a German pressing of Wish You Were Here and Neil Young classics at thrift stores for very reasonable prices. That would never happen now. Just at the very end of my time collecting records prices started going apeshit.

From Iron Butterfly, Metamorphosis is quite worth it. Though harder to come by, I found a decent copy for $7 at my local record store a few weeks back. I already had it on reel tape just wanted the vinyl for comparison. The reel sounds so good. Will check the vinyl this week-end.
I got into vinyl in 2002/2003 when I was thirteen and fourteen. I started a really decent collection looking though goodwill. Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin and etc. all for a buck a piece. I got in at the right time. Unfortunately, my pállate wasn’t quite as refined then and I cringe to think of all the good stuff I probably passed up not knowing what it was.
I fear that people will come to regret spending a lot on common albums in another 10 year since when the vinyl fad has worn off and only the serious collectors are left everything will go back to 90s pricing (at least that’s my prediction, vinyl can’t stay popular forever)

Not a fan of the Croce material, but i do have his Best Of cd in my collection. This may seem a bit loopy, but is true. My father was a longtime ballroom manager in Iowa during the early 50’s-early 70’s. He would receive promo albums from management agencies pushing their artists’ latest work. Most of these bands were from the midwest region, but not always. I’m reminded by your mention of Future Blues by Canned Heat. I was 11 or 12 at the time (‘71-‘72) when the record was handed off to me. I was not a big blues fan at that age, but i did bash about to “Let’s Work Together” on drums. I completely got ahead of myself here. Back to my original point as related to Croce: My father was also a former Air Force Vet from WW2 era. He operated a charter service with his Beechcraft Bonanza single-engine to help provide for our large (5 kids) family in addition to the ballrooms. He died in an accident not far from home. 8/16/73. Croce would die just over a month later. Elvis passed 8/16/77.
Great idea for a video. I too have noticed the cheap Jefferson Airplane. I've been trying to collect all of Randy Newman's non-soundtrack work, and I have found every one of his records between 1968 and 1988 for under $10.

Buy up those Frampton comes alive albums. They are still relatively cheap and easy to find. But they might wind up getting more expensive like the ones you've mentioned.
Great video Robert. Several of those records you showed (Pretenders, Jefferson Airplane, Georgia Satellites, etc. etc.) were once $3 records SOLID--- all day, every day at record shows. But you're right- still inexpensive today. I love your no nonsense, no BS approach, you're doing God's work here. Your channel and Channel 33 RPM are my two favorite music channels on UA-cam. Rock on brother! 🤘 (Btw, what a collection behind you. I would have a blast going thru your stuff! 👍)
That's some good records. I have that Jim Croce record Photographs and Memories if I'm correct. That had a picture of his sun with his father's hat on one side of the inner sleeve. The Monkees had some great Psychedelic songs. I used to have all three of their albums. From I think More Of The Monkees to The Birds, The Bees, And The Monkees. I found those records in a big bag at a second hand store called The Village Discount Outlet. It's a local second hand store/thrift shop. I used get all these records over there in the 90's. But man, their Psych stuff is great. Daily Nightly, Star Collector. Man! I also that Moody Blues album and Iron Butterfly. Great albums indeed.
Also, for new reissues, all 3 of Jimi Hendrix studio albums are a decent price, typically around $15-17 for AYE, Axis and Electric Ladyland. These Sony all analog reissues sound fantastic.
Hey Robert. Throughout the video I'm thinking to myself: "Got that one for a buck a few years ago... Yep, got that one super cheap at used record store in Decatur, Indiana during a 2015 road trip... Got that and that... and that one in a lot of records given to me for free YEARS ago when the world was drooling over iPods." Also, great subject. Informative, economical advice. Happy Weekend.
That frigid Pink album is really good! I agree with you about the Jim Croce albums I love them, some people just completely suck like the guy that you were talking about the comment on your video. I did not know Chilliwack original name, we learn something everyday. Thanks for sharing this with us
Fun as always.. though the thing with $5-$10 “pretty good albums,” is you can save your money NOT buy 3 or 4 of ‘em and buy a REALLY great album. Saves on shelf space too…
The Boston debut album is a great example. I've been looking for another copy at my local record store for the last year and a half and it just hasn't been there. In fact, they haven't had any of the Boston albums at all in the last year or so. It does make you wonder how or who decides on the value on some of these items... Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
I dabble in selling records in my antique mall booth, and I often price them according to what I think they're worth, not based on Ebay or Discogs since buying online doesn't compare to buying in person and being able to actually inspect the records. I've sold Bread's Greatest Hits for at least $18 twice. With new records costing easily $25 to $45 each, so why not sell originals for around $20 or more?
I had no idea Boston hadn’t gone up, my local record store hadn’t a whole bin of their debut 5 bucks each and I see them at yard salesman for a dollar each
The Albums Mitch Ryder recorded for German Line Records at the end of the seventies and early eighties are absolutely cheap to get here in Germany (you mentioned him). It's a a nice kind of pumping Blues Rock and it is recorded really great. Rich bass, clear treble, awesome stuff. I don't know, how it is in the US, but albums like "How I Spent My Vacation", "Smart Ass" , "Got Change For a Million" and "Naked But Not Dead" are highly recommended, if you're looking out for great records for a small price.
Krokus. Great AC/DC influenced band from Switzerland. Albums 4 through 7 are awesome. Their records are now priced from €10,- to €20,-. When I started listening to them you could get them for around €8,- so prices are rising.
@@RobertFithen I bet. There are a lot of records I wish I bought 20 years ago that are very expensive nowadays. But at least I got the bulk of my heavy metal vinyl back then very cheap.
I have an early pressing of surrealistic pillow. I bought it years ago. In pretty good condition. Has the rca Victor label with the dog. Either first or second pressing.
Dude... you crack me the f### up 🤣 ..... we all know that you have pre-ordered the $200+ Analogue Productions UHQR Aja... time to come clean once and for all haha!
I find albums from the late 80s to be very keenly priced. In 1988-89 the CD was still something of a status symbol, and people were still buying albums in large numbers on vinyl. These would _eventually_ be replaced by CD versions, and are now very plentiful on Discogs. Two British soul albums were literally there for the taking - _So Good_ by *Mica Paris* and _To Whom It May Concern_ by *The Pasadenas.* Both in tip-top condition, and both for only £2 plus shipping. For some reason, *Tracy Chapman's* debut album has been shifting well on Discogs.
Seeing you say certain albums have gone up in price make sure me realize how lucky I am that I live in the middle of nowhere, nobody has any clue what vinyl is worth most everything is dollar bin at antique stores and yard sales. I find it amazing anyone would pay more then 5 dollars for an album as common as the boston debut or thriller
Great video. Nice to know that some albums have maintained normal prices. I love the first 5 steve miller albums. Brave new world is one of my favorites. Listen to the song My Dark Hour, and about 13 seconds in, you will hear the riff for fly like an eagle. At least it sounds like it to me. Lots of other good albums listed. I never really liked the Fat Mattress album. But Noel Redding had another band in the early 70s called Road that i found to be more interesting. Cheers.
Great list. Love Nazareth. But yeah, Hair of the Dog is tough to find that in decent shape. I found the Stooges weren’t that expensive a few years ago. On Amazon it was $12, new. But I could get the CDs, all three studio albums, for $9.50. I caved and got the CDs. That was a few years ago. I bet the CDs are even cheaper and the first Stooges album has gone up.
I remember when cd's first came out. Most of them were expensive. If you had a relative that really liked you a lot, you might get a cd by the Police or The Cars or at least Huey Lewis & The News. If you had a relative that didn't like you so well, you'd get Envionmental Sounds, or Sounds Of The Rain Forest or Waves. No, not Katrina & The Waves; that'd be 18 bucks too rxpensive. It was ccean waves. A $2.99 Environment Sounds cd was the the greatest way to tell somebody"I really don't care for you much, and am just going through the motions." "Hope you never discover they are only 1/7 the usual cd price. The Commodores were mentioned. Is it true that Brick House was former President Dwight D. Eisenhower's favorite record? At first some people thought that Mofi was backing off the midrange to hide flaws in the Master Tapes. Even more people would have thought that if they would have released Sticky Fingers first. But then people realized back then "They're doing that on all of them " They did have nice sharp transients and we got to hear what clean brass sounds like. The Nautilus lps took out the bottom and CBS Mastersound they added to everywhere, especially the treble. Years ago, classical Living Stereo records, sought out by many audiophiles, had their market totally collapse. Some Living Stereo records that in 1990 were such a good deal at $150, that you would thank your dealer and shake his hand for being so nice about the price on it; some of those are $15 records now. For those who still care. Has there ever been a collapse on any particular one series of records like the Living Stereo collapse of the mid 1990s before?
I've always thought that was the reason for a lot of those environmental cds being purchased. Office holiday parties too. I've never heard that about Eisenhower. The RCA Red Seal had a similar fate to the Living Stereo.
Early Chilliwack is pretty good, especially their hit single Lonesome Mary but it gets pretty sad starting in the late 70's. I love the first three Frijid Pink albums, original pressings of their second album Defrosted have a great foil cover. Nice to see the first side of Inna Godda Da Vida get some love, my personal favourite is My Mirage which is a Doors ripoff but in a great way. Ed Sanders from the Fuggs had a great track on his solo album Sanders' Truck Stop called The Illiad that has lyrics that are sadly still relevant now. I discovered it on a Warner loss leader sampler called The Big Ball.
I just bought a copy of seventh sojourn. The last of the classic moody blues albums. It's still my favorite album by them. Paid $1.99 for it. It looked a little rough, but I cleaned it up and it plays fine. Not a fan of the first moody blues album? You mean the one with Denny lane? Or days of future past?
I think Blondie's first 3 are impeccable rock records but I will definitely take the first Pretenders record over anything Blondie ever released. Maybe the second one too. Check out my Moody Blues "Long Distance Voyager" video. That one is low key, may want a gummy. I get people not being too fond of that one but it is probably their best album cover. Nazareth! I have the English version that looks like it has had beer and piss spilled on it. In fact, I don't trust the authenticity of a "Hair Of The Dog" record that doesn't look or sound like it has been beaten to hell and back. Great idea for a video! Please keep us updated! (i.e. "Rumors" for over 5 bucks is ridiculous)
I have noticed the same phenomenon with Michael Jackson's "Thriller" that is going on with albums like "Rumours" and Boston's 1st. Another album that sold millions and millions of copies; actually, 1 of the greatest selling albums of all time! And people are paying $20 and up for this? No, really, there are MILLIONS of copies out there, a person shouldn't pay more than $5-$6. Madness! But on the "still affordable" side of things, I've noticed Traffic LPs are still abundant and cheap; same with Spirit. If I have a hankering for another rockin' Johnny Winter LP from the '70s, they are cheap and plentiful! Gotta strike when things aren't "hip."
Actually, for the old Steve Miller Band, I went the "new" way. Sound of Vinyl had a sale early January and those were $8 a piece.. and there was a 20% discount coupon on top of that.. hard to pass. If there's one I really like, I might seek a OG or in that era press but I think I'll be ok. I got Children of the Future, Sailor, Brave New World, Your Saving Grace, Number 5, and Rock Love, Recall The Beginning and I even grabbed Selections From The Vault. I have The Joker album, I like it but I hate the title song.
Give Aja a break Robert ! It's a great album and the Gatefold is genuinely informative and entertaining. I treasure mine. Agree with you about Pet Sounds tho'
Great episode! I might have missed one of your episodes if you did this already.. but how about doing songs with lyrics we couldn’t quite make out but thought we knew. Turns out the actual lyrics were different. Lol. For example when I was a kid I thought the lyrics for blinded by the light … he was saying “revved up like a douche”. I didn’t know what a douche was but would sing that line out loud every time it played on radio.
Yeah, it's really surprising how cheap Pretenders albums are - especially the first album - but as you say, it's probably only a matter of time. The Fever Tree album has always been undervalued. San Francisco Girls is such an underrated single. Amazingly I have yet to go on a deep dive with any those Croce albums. His singles are so great, I really need to take your advice and grab that stuff while it's still priced...er...as it should be.
Croce is great. It was playing on mixed tapes and the radio all the time as a kid, and I later heard the deeper cuts as an adult. Those Pretenders records are also awesome.
Got lucky with my copy a mono copy Surrealistic Pillow at a thrift shop. Paid a buck for it. However that same chain of shops now has a copy of Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. for $30. A bargain! Other albums I'd like to add: Super Session with Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper and Steve Stills. Brain Salad Surgery is still cheap and classic, if not online then at any goodwill. In funk/soul and jazz there's Ramsey Lewis. His early 70s Cadet stuff hasn't budged even after he died and is criminally overlooked. Man there just so much.
Jesse Johnson’s Revue >>> Sign ‘O’ the Times… haven’t listened, but I’m pretty sure! Sure looks like the same thing. Lol If you can’t get Rumours you can get that Corrs album… on CD, for less than a dollar. It has Dreams on it! 🙃 If you can’t get that rare Express Yourself 12” you can get that Born This Way picture disc that’s been on sale for a decade at your local store… kinda, sorta the same… who cares, it was cheap! There’s always that cheap copycat to fulfill our needs, how cool is that. 😂
Definitely a lot of heaviness 😮

Buy up those Frampton comes alive albums. They are still relatively cheap and easy to find. But they might wind up getting more expensive like the ones you've mentioned.
I love your opinions on `cheap` vinyl ("...so what..?!"). More thumbs up than I have...👍👍👍
Great video Robert.
(Btw, what a collection behind you.
Saves on shelf space too…
I don't mind paying more for something rare, but I would feel silly paying $25 for a multi-platinum album like Boston.
@@RobertFithen agree 100%.. what was once considered “commons” are now “commodities.”
You saved the best comment for last! Can't agree more on the shi**y music for higher price! And the MFSL midrange, right again brother!
The Iron Butterfly debut album is killer too. You can find that one for nothing
Mr. Fit Hen, you can have my Dire Streets LP’s free of charge (collect only) 😂😂😂
Nice video Robert….
Robin Trower is the king of the $5 record. Bridge of Sighs, Long Misty Days, even his Live Lp are great listens.
all of his albums through the mid 80s are dynamite.
I have his cd box set album series. Great albums.
Great list, as ever.
I had no idea Boston hadn’t gone up, my local record store hadn’t a whole bin of their debut 5 bucks each and I see them at yard salesman for a dollar each
For some reason I accidentally wrote hadn’t instead of had each time, replace every hadn’t with had in my last comment
@@agomodern Bread for 18? They're terrible, wow. Even if I liked them, I couldn't see paying more than five.
robert, you kill me with the Aja album hahaha, keeping it real..cheers, good vid.
Thanks, Robert. LOL 😀👍. The biggest bargain bang for one's buck are minty classical LPs and CDs. This is cheap thrills high end. Wowee. - Heather
Dan Baird (Georgia Satellites) an excellent songwriter. Check out solo work (I Love You Period) and The Yayhoos
I've hard the solo stuff. I wish he would have put out more. He gives a great interview, too.
I am with you on Aja - I can listen to about 30 seconds of that POS and then I sell it - I purposely sell it cheap because I hate it so much
Robert! May I suggest Whipped Cream and Other Delights as a "still reasonable" choice? Even the deep cuts have an irresistible jauntiness.
I did a whole video reviewing "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" while covered in whipped cream.
Every thrift store in America is required to carry that album.
I still remember when Krokus was $2.
@@RobertFithen I bet. There are a lot of records I wish I bought 20 years ago that are very expensive nowadays. But at least I got the bulk of my heavy metal vinyl back then very cheap.
Great idea for a video.
Canned heat. Great stuff. I got the hooker n heat reissue from pure pleasure. Pricey but great.
Nektar is another one. I like 'em at any rate.
I've managed to find the first 3 or so Monkees records for 5 bucks each, although Pisces was a buck or two more
I have an early pressing of surrealistic pillow. I bought it years ago. In pretty good condition. Has the rca Victor label with the dog. Either first or second pressing.
Friend of mine saw some Zepp albums at $60 bucks a piece in Japan. It's getting crazy.
Earth Wind and Fire. A whole run of 70s and early 80s albums - all solid. Easily available for around $5. Ditto Nazareth, great band.
I was lucky to find prince, beatles, edgar winter group, and a ton more great albums for like 1-3$ each the past 2 years!
Dude... you crack me the f### up 🤣 ..... we all know that you have pre-ordered the $200+ Analogue Productions UHQR Aja... time to come clean once and for all haha!
Two copies. One I am keeping sealed for display only of course. lol
Give it time. I'm noticing mid-80's albums like The Outfield and Bryan Adams surging in price.
Yeah, "Thriller" is definitely another one.
I noticed an overabundance of j.geils band albums in the budget bin. Pre freeze frame ( freeze frame sucks). I'm talking 70s j geils. Great band.
Cheers.
I got most of those Steve Miller Band records at the same store on the same day for a dollar apiece. Good stuff.
Pet Sounds is my favorite psycho album. I love the cows that moo up a storm on that last track.
Love the heavy ❤
Eisenhower died in 1969 and Brick House came out in 1977, so, No.
Oh my!!! Too funny! I really want that Jesse Johnson album.I dig prince but come on!! At least Jesse isn’t predictable.
When Mr.Robert Fithen talks vinyl... Steely Dan's Aja is never far away. 😉
You saved the best for the last... 😄
The one with Denny Lane.
I like about half of "Long Distance Voyager". It's almost like every other song is a winner.
I grabbed a bunch of Moody Blues at Goodwill recently
I found Iron Butterfly's In A Godda lp at a thrift store for 1.00 in new condition. Original.
Get the Knack - a $3-$5 record and it’s amazing
Great video
Thank you
Actually, for the old Steve Miller Band, I went the "new" way.
How about the album Cheap Thrills? I remember seeing that in the bargain bin for a period of time.
It's still relatively inexpensive, but not "cheap". "Pearl" is the more expensive one.
LOL! Abracadabra is my Steve Miller stopping point, too.
Give Aja a break Robert ! It's a great album and the Gatefold is genuinely informative and entertaining. I treasure mine. Agree with you about Pet Sounds tho'
As far as sound, production and listenability, Aja is a top 10 of the 70's album, up there with Dark Side of the Moon & Billy Joel's "The Stranger".
Pet Sounds is great, though not their best.
Great idea.
had to get up and put on my Osibisa album woyaya.
I've noticed a lot of the Emerson Lake & Palmer hasn't gone up in price.... yet.
I feel like a lot of prog is a good example of this. ELP, Yes, Genesis after 1974, camel, and more can all be found for under 10 bucks
I don't know how it will be now that he passed away, but I got most of my Gordon Lightfoot albums for $1 to $3
Jesse Johnson’s Revue >>> Sign ‘O’ the Times… haven’t listened, but I’m pretty sure! Sure looks like the same thing. Lol
If you can’t get Rumours you can get that Corrs album… on CD, for less than a dollar. It has Dreams on it! 🙃
If you can’t get that rare Express Yourself 12” you can get that Born This Way picture disc that’s been on sale for a decade at your local store… kinda, sorta the same… who cares, it was cheap!
There’s always that cheap copycat to fulfill our needs, how cool is that. 😂
I have Boston self titled with no cover 😅 got it at a thrift
great video
