An excellent interpretation of Shelley's Frankenstein. Quite close to the book itself! I can't help but feel sorry for the creature. He didn't ask for any of this, but because he is "other," he is persecuted, rejected and forever an outsider.

I will admit that this is first Frankenstein movie that I have ever seen. After watching it, one can definitely understand the Creature's pain and rage. To me, Victor allowed his morbid obsession with death and his quest to overcome it get the better of him and it cost him dearly.

Prince Nuada, he has the most beautiful voice I have heard.
The "monster's" pain and grief never fails to break the heart and fill my eyes with tears, chased and beaten by people simply for existing.
And still it happens today, and I hate humans for it, for their hypocrisy, bigotry, for their cruelty.
For all those that are different, or feel different, you are the magic in this world; don't let them kill that part of you, I cherish your difference.

A man asked jesus why is this man blind? Because of his sin or his parents sin? Jesus said no it brings and shines the light of god! God is showing how much you have! How much you are loved! Just god shining his light through the sick poor sinners! Open your heart and as jesus says shine your light on the world that is full of greed and sin! Thank you for bringing me back to life. Do you have an aspirin? I've got a splittin' headache. " All spoken with a lovely cockney accent. Me too, after I first read the book I thought Dr Frankenstein was the real monster in the story, and you see it in this movie as well. He brings what's basically a blank slate to life then he just runs away from him - leaving him in s very hard cruel world he doesn't understand (and who doesn't understood him either). Then as soon as Frankenstein is back on his feet he decides he'll find him and "erase" any trace of what he did - so kill him - he had way too much pride.

    • @mouthfungus

@@veronicaspencelocke2003eh... So like, yeah, he abandoned this creature he made, but it's worth noting he was simply afraid and then by the time he met it again it had already killed his brother. His fears were pretty understandable even if it's sad for the creature.

This was hands down the most faithful adaptation of the source material than any other before, almost word for word. The original with Boris Karloff was a completely different story conveniently with the same name & origin in a superficial sense. The sequel Bride of Frankenstein was its own thing with Elsa Lanchester portraying Mary Shelley & appearing as the bride for maybe like 5 minutes if that which, to be fair, the original book only briefly mentioned the bride as well but the sequel was literally called Bride of Frankenstein so she should’ve been the main focus rather than being an afterthought in the last 5 minutes of the film where she just gets her scenes of jerking her head & screaming then dying from electrocution. This retained the philosophical elements of the original with stellar performances by the cast who really made you empathize with & care about them. But also did incorporate some elements of the original Universal James Whale directed films like creating the creature from cadavers & animating it to life via electricity whereas in the book, the creature is created from scratch & animated through a previously unknown & undescribed process which couldn’t be done in film because in books you can just say how something was done without describing it but you have to show it being done in film or television so they had to change how the creature was created in the original Universal films & here but it didn’t ruin the story. I can’t say enough good about this film, it’s absolutely fantastic.

The world is full of evil and wrath as well as love and hope and kindness... But just like God abandoned his children so did Victor abandoned his own child ....
Therefore I am with the child because he just treated the world in the same evil way they treated him ... He was a child once again and look at that ... They treated him with evil

Frankenstein was originally written as a late entry to a ghost story competition amongst Mary Shelley’s friends. It was written to be a scary story, so it makes sense it was put it’s the “horror” genre, and the shortened version of the story is roughly Chapter 5 (of the 1831 edition), so you can see how the horror connects. Also, it’s important to remember that we view horror differently now than we did then in the early 1800’s.
However, it’s also a book written largely with Gothic and Romantic inspiration and during those periods so it will naturally have elements of life and nature and the way the world interacts and such like you describe. Both descriptions can be true at once.

The average person couldn't read in 1818 it was the preserve or teachers, clergy, doctors and scientists. If you did you'd probably need it after you were hung for which craft or heresy, needless to say useless if you were burnt at the stake or got your head chopped off. Great film thanks.

The idea of electricity was in the book, Shelley just didn’t explicitly state how Frankenstein used it to create the Creature. Victor talks about how the lighting striking the oak tree in his garden sparked his interest in galvanism, so we can assume he probably used it to some degree, even though she never stated how he used it.

The story was written in the early 1800's. Nobody wore anything purple except royalty/the very wealthy because the dye was very expensive until the mid 1800's when somebody invented a chemical process to create similar shades.

@@BostonDon But it's not set in the 1800's.
People who were allowed to wear the color purple during the Elizabethan era, as decreed by the English Sumptuary Laws, were the Queen, Queen's mother, children, and sisters, and aunts. The King, King's mother, children, brethren, and uncles.
The Meaning of the color Purple
The color and material used in Elizabethan Clothing was extremely important. People who could wear the color Purple was dictated by English Law. These were called the Sumptuary Laws. The colors of Elizabethan clothes, including the color Purple, provided information about the status of the man or woman wearing them. This was not just dictated by the wealth of the person, it also reflected their social standing. The meaning of colors during the Elizabethan era represented many aspects of their life - the social, religious, biblical and Christian symbolism was reflected in the color Purple.

Why do people in general say that the Creature has a bolt through his neck? What purpose would a bolt have and to what would it be connected?
The studs on either side of it's neck were terminals, for the electrical charge to enter it's body and bring it to life.

Best adaptation of the book by far but i wish the monster looked more horryfying. In this movie its almost hard to understand why people are scared of him. Hes supposed to be a innocent soul trapped in the most horryfying abomination possible. Yet here hes just a pale guy with some scars.
