Canadian heavy metal/thrash metal legends ANNIHILATOR are pleased to unveil the official video for “Psycho Ward.” The thought-provoking track centered on domestic violence, comes by way of the band’s 17th studio album, Ballistic, Sadistic, set for release January 24th, 2020 via Silver Lining Music.
“Psycho Ward” is yet another example of the band’s return to their roots with a contemporary twist. Founding guitarist, vocalist, producer and principal songwriter Jeff Waters of the track:
“‘Psycho Ward’ takes us back to the musical vibe of Never, Neverland's ‘Stonewall’ but with a drastically-different lyrical theme: domestic violence and abuse. I've written quite a few songs on this subject since the ‘90s but this song is the perfect combination of “old-school” metal meeting the right lyrical and vocal delivery to get the point across. This band is criminally underrated.....They are so freaking great and Jeff is a awesome guitarist and song writer. I wished they would get the recognition they deserve here in the states.

You are so true. When I watched him live in Athens I could not believe how he was playing...He has the precision of the studio along with the incredible force of a live at the same time. Personally very few guitarists combine this. Like you said of ALL time.
Just curious as to why his guitar seems to be louder than the rest of the band, at least in the lead solos sections of the song. It kinda drowns out some of the rest of the bands backing music.
I have never under estimated Jeff as a guitarist... He is the biggest influence for my guitar playing, feel, brutal, sublime awesomeness :-)

I've been a fan of Annihilator for 16-odd years now. For several years, they were my absolute favourite band even though I didn't absolutely love every single album, I did find something to like on all of them. Yes, even on 'Remains'. But as a guy who's a few years away from his 40th, I just can't buy into this 'a real fan supports his bands no matter what'. I no longer have money to waste on shite albums. And the majority of the new albums that Annihilator have put out during the time that I've been a fan (the first 'new' album from them that I bought was 'All For You') have been either outright disappointments (Metal, Suicide Society) or hit 'n' miss. I work hard for my money and also my time for listening to music has vastly decreased in recent years. If Jeff can't put out something that's the quailty of 'Carnival Diablos' - at the very least - then I'm done with new Annihilator albums. Sorry, Jeff. I'll do my best to get to a show if you're nearby me but I don't need watered-down versions of songs that came out 30 years ago. And yes, the lyrics are abominable.
@@chondrinenigma TBH his ( Jeff ) last best album was Waking The Fury THAT was old school vintage Annihilator it had that killer vintage Waters bouncy riffs we all know and loved Blackest Day still is a rager man, but like i said after All For You, i really don't know where Jeff's head was at back then...
But he tried to harken back to Set The World On Fire with too much melodies and tried to get radio friendly again , and he basically never left that formula ( kinda like Overkill ) and wrote that same song style ever since. These "Going back to Never, Neverland" assumptions need to stop even the faster songs lack that Annihilator sound, and again i again ask the question...Is it really that hard to find a competent vocalist out there to sing on his records? I think his ego won't let it happen after Dave Padden left him at the alter there are some KILLER vocalists whom i would think would KILL to sing on an Annihilator record, one more thing Jeff needs to get a ghost writer for his lyrics for the last time, even a child can make up a better story jeezus man they're embarrassing to say the least. Soo with that being said i'm not looking foward to another Corny Annihilator record because i'm really starting to feel for Jeff man he totally lost his writing touch.

I think you've encompassed all that fans love about Annihilator in one track. This is a super groovy cut with great mid-tempo riffs. But Jeff's guitar work is fantastic. Not only the solo, but the lead melodies after the 1st solo are mesmerizing. Just hoping for more consistency across all songs on the new record.

They had good singers too for me Aaron Randall was good but definitely not their best but I still thought he was good Dave Padden was great Joe Comeau was great I like Joe more than Aaron Jeff Waters is great Randy Rampage was awesome and Coburn Pharr was awesome too My top 3 singers in the band would be Dave Padden Coburn Pharr And Randy Rampage another great one for me that’s not in my List is Jeff Waters and Joe Comeau too

The tracks I've heard from this record are some of the best I've heard in a long time from these guys. I grew up with Annihilator (got into em in high school with Alice In Hell) and that old vibe I've been missing from them is back.
