- This is my entry to the 2023 Furniture Flipping UA-camrs Charity Challenge! This little chest had SO much stubborn paint on it, but it was so worth it to strip back to the wood and the cool handles underneath. I added a couple of painted details, some beautiful woodstain and great decoupage paper.
There are loads of amazing entries to this challenge - and all for great causes! Check out the playlist here: • 2023 Furniture Flippin...
Thank you to Angie from Transcend Furniture Gallery for creating and hosting the challenge! The rules are that you can makeover any piece of furniture, but you have to either donate the piece to a charity or a family in need, or sell it and donate the proceeds. I've chosen to sell my piece and donate the proceeds to Dementia UK ( www.dementiauk... ) who are an amazing charity here in the UK, helping to provide specialist nurses to families affected by dementia.
You can support Holly's Design via Buy Me A Coffee, so I can spend more money on new paint colours and sandpaper and crazy bits of furniture (not coffee).

Holly's Design was born out of a love for beautiful interiors and beautiful furniture. Having worked in interior design for several years, I saw the value in traditional, well made furniture that is built to last, over our increasingly throw away culture.
When my husband and I bought our first house it was empty! Without the budget or the inclination for a massive shopping spree, I started updating old pieces that were kindly gifted to us, and finding pieces on their way to the tip that I could renovate. I loved upcycling them to suit our style, and I got so addicted I had to start selling my work to make room!
And so Holly's Design was born! I hope you enjoy being a part of the journey, and thank you for watching and supporting my little venture. - Навчання та стиль
Decoupage is my Nemesis!! 😂 The wood grain was beautiful, great job ❤
Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one!! Thanks so much for watching
This looks great. For the decoupaged side, maybe sand over it to give it a worn look. This would smooth it out as well.
Thank you! That's a really good idea. Thanks for watching!
Congratulations on “the bump” I was about to ask, couldn’t decide how too in case you write back and say cheeky bugger I just ate too much cadburys 🤣🤣🤣
Kitty is not strange, my half Persian likes to sit on the edge of the bath when I’m in, jumped in once too😖
Hope you raised a good amount for dementia fund, certainly came out super,,,, you are improving with design and cinematography👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hahaha, yeah I thought I'd better address it as I slowly (but not so slowly!) get bigger and bigger! Thank you so much for your comment ❤️❤️❤️ your cat sounds really funny!
Wow. Just wow. What a transformation! I absolutely LOVE the stain you used, and the refreshed hardware is absolutely gorgeous.
Your feline assistant/supervisor (Frank) is adorable! Some cats are fascinated by water and some are excellent swimmers.
Beautiful wood grain. Hello to Frank and congratulations on the baby.
Ah thank you so much! And thank you for watching 💕
It turned out great! What an excellent charity choice too!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you think so 😁
I liked everything including the decoupage, and particularly the dark blue underneath the decoupage toned it down a bit which suited the overall effect. I loved the stain color too 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you!! I'm so glad you liked it
Thanks for participating in the challenge!
I love your attention to detail…very satisfying to watch, and the end result is stunning!
The handles turned out great! The entire piece is lovely, a great upcycle.
Thank you so much!
The decoupage print was pretty, but navy was perfect, clean and sophisticated. Not too late too remove the decoupage and try again on another piece!
Yeah I nearly didn't do the decoupage, might be worth taking it off! Thanks so much for watching
Congratulations. Wood grain and stain is gorgeous. Good choice on the handles. 💕🐈⬛?🐶
Thank you! I'm glad the handles worked out well enough, I was nervous of the gold but I think they needed it in the end. Thanks so much for watching! 💕
beautiful transformation! I've used plastic wrap to smooth out tissue paper when decoupaging. It helps to keep the papers smooth without tearing!!!! Give it a try!
Ah that's a clever idea! I'll definitely give that a try. Thanks so much!
Wonderful work,,,should sell quickly and you chose a very worthy charity. Also, congratulations on the bump. Wish you nothing but an amazing and healthy journey until little one arrives and then a lifetime of success as a little family 🇨🇦
Thank you so much! We can't wait to meet baby. And so glad you enjoyed watching
Beautiful piece. I think the cloth would have made a better drawer liner though. The blue looked great by itself. Nicely done!
This turned out beautiful, luv your charity. I am taking care of my mother in law for the last 2 years who has dementia. It is a challenge, no doubt about it. I really luv the decoupage you added on the sides, welldone.
Thank you so much! Gosh, that's a challenge for sure. All the best with her care, you're amazing for doing that ❤️
Great job! I love it. Congratulations on baby on board!
Ah thank you!! We're very excited for baby's arrival!
Awesome!!!
Beautiful. Like the peice itself, size, etc.
Beautiful
that patterned area was a GORGEOUS surprise!! the grain on those drawers is amazing. this challenge is the first time I've seen "decoupage." it's really really cool!
Thank you so much!! I'm so glad you liked it!
Gorgeous.
Thank you! 😊
i also hate stripping!! great charity to donate too! congrats on the new baby!! how exciting!! i love the combo of the wood, paper and paint! turned out lovely!!
Thank you so much!! And I'm glad I'm not the only one! 😂
You should have painted white under the paper as the background is white. Also you can iron over it the get out the creases.the rest is amazing lovebtge handlesznd congratulations on the bump
Thanks for the tips!
I really like it!
Thank you!!! And thanks for watching
I loved that paper but maybe needs to be on a lighter background. That blue with the stain was gorgeous! You’ve got a great eye!
Thank you so much! Yeah I think you're probably right on the decoupage - my husband actually said the same about a lighter background. Thanks so much for watching!!
Lots of hard work but very nice at the end❤
Thank you!! So glad you liked it
Beautifull
Thank you!
Very nice improvement. the decoupage doesn't really work for me but I'm sure others will love it.
Thank you! And thanks for watching
The wood grain turned out gorgeous. I’m not feeling the paper. I think it looks a bit odd. I would personally take my electric sander to it and heavily distress the paper all over & this will also help hide all the creases. It’s a pretty decoupage paper though. Would of looked lovely of you had done the sides of the drawers. So a nice surprise and pop of colour when you opened the drawers. Good luck and hope it sells. Brilliant charity by the way x
Ahh I nearly did the sides of the drawers instead! Sanding it is a good idea. Thanks so much for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Agreed on the charity!
It looks beautiful, and you worked so hard, but l think you should try another decoupage paper that isn't so transparent. Other than that, excellent!
Thank you so much! And yeah agreed on the decoupage
I dislike chemical paint strippers as well. Have you considered a heat gun? Won’t help with the highly detailed parts but cuts down time and effort. Beautiful video and the results were lovely 😊 Great cause too!
Yeah I do actually have a heat gun and I don’t use it nearly enough! Probably would’ve been a good idea 😂🤦🏻♀️ so glad you liked the piece and the video! Thank you for watching.
Great job! New subscriber here.
Awesome! Thank you!
Beautiful piece. I kept noticing your work area with envy 😊. It looks like a wonderful place to work on pieces. What part of the UK are you in? Anne
Thanks Anne! It is a lovely spot, I'm in Hampshire in the UK. Whereabouts are you?
@@hollysdesign Hi Holly, I’m in Fairfax, Virginia. I have been watching a lot of “Escape to the Country “ so I’m starting to get to know UK counties 😊. I’m hoping to travel to London soon.
I would have left the sides just the blue
Yeah I very nearly did! 😳 Possibly should have
Congratulations 🎉 what did you have ?? Boy or girl
I think it looks great, but it also would be just as pretty without the decoupage....(just my humble opinion).
Thanks so much! And I think I agree with you!
